I just read this on another part of the Dis, does anyone know any more about it? I am staying at the Disneyland Hotel.

Andrew I heard they were going to be redoing the DLH, but I can't see them tearing them down. I would think they would do one tower at a time. Betcha Roger and some others are in the know though:goodvibes

What I remember reading was that they are concerned that even if they take each tower down to just the shell that the infrastructure (pipes & wiring) may not be able to handle the demands of 21st century four or five star rooms. It's still in the debate stage, since there's a lot of nostalgia about the original rooms in the original hotel...

We'll see how it all plays out.

One way to break shoes in is to wear them for an hour or so in the evenings with sweat socks... That way you're actually streching them to the shape of your feet, but with just enough extra room that with stockings they fit perfectly. Shouldn't take more than a week or so of wearing them.

It won't help with stretching new shoes, but to keep from getting blisters the first few times I wear new shoes, I put Vaseline on the inside, even the straps.

OK

What do you think about my new pirates outfit?

Tan is good, but do not like loosing the hair.

And if they are real leather, wipe them down with a damp sponge first. That's how I always broke in new figure skates. Oh, I so do not miss breaking in new skates.

Don't know if this has been brought up before ... but I just came back from my annual visit from the Doctor and when I mentioned Mexico, she gave me a prescription for Ducarol (sp?) to help prevent Montezuma's Revenge. It is a powder you mix with water and drink before you go. It lasts 3 months. Thought this might be of interest ?

Mr. Emerald has assured me that he will have some information and prices to me in the next couple of days. I will post them when I get them.:)

Oh, thanks! I was just wondering about that port!

A few years ago when our middle dd got new Ice skates DH wanted me to put them in a bucket of water and then have her wear them -- that is how they used to break in hockey skates back in the day (as you know hockey skates are no longer made of leather).

I nearly had a stroke and told him I would NOT put new skates in water! LOL! She outgrew them within a few months anyway.....

Task Force Formation Alert

I started a thread on the pirate zone for anyone interested.

Last time we cruised, I made journals for the kids. For our WDW days, I used the ones from www.themouseforless.com, but I wasn't thrilled with their very general DCL pages, so I made my own. There was a double page spread for each day with a few activities (word search, solve a puzzle, find the answer to a question type of thing) related to where we were that day (look for 6-toed cats in Key West, learn a few Spanish words in Costa Maya, etc.). On sea days, I had some on-board things to do (how many steps is our room from the kids club, go down the Mickey slide at least 5x, how fast is the ship going right now). I'll see if Tom can post an example on the pirate zone.

Creating the pages required a little bit of kid-level research about each of the ports and and some creative brain time making up activities. So here is my thought on a task force - if we have enough interested parents, each persons could volunteer to 'research' a port and come up with a few kid-level facts, questions, activities & we would need a few volunteers to think of sea day activities (I have 2 sea day pages already). I would be happy to create the page layouts post .pdfs for people to download and print pre-cruise.

Any takers?
If so, post here

That sounds like a great idea M! We made journals for the kids for our last cruise. There was a box each day that they had to fill in with the name of someone from another country, where they were from, and something new that they learned from that person. The crew members were great about helping them out. If I come up with any ideas, I'll be sure to post them over on the Pirate Zone.

That's great to hear. I was hoping that this was still a "go", since we're still very much interested. Thanks again for working on this Paula!

I am thinking of his tours as well

I will be interested in what you find out, Paula. Thanks for checking into this.

Nik used to skate backwards to break hers in. I used to cringe when she forced that foot into the skate barefooted.:scared1:

Hi

The wedding went without a hitch.. The weather was perfect low 80's
How beautiful!

And, today's my birthday !! yea me, yea me, I'm gonna have CAKE !!

Happy Birthday tooo YOUUUUUU!!!

Just have to share this story from our local news. It brought tears to my eyes when I watched it on the news. Karen Campanale said she pretty much kissed her rings goodbye & she couldn't believe how Disney went above & beyond the call of duty to return them. One of the many reasons we love Disney so much! Sometimes they really get it right! :goodvibes

Brendan said if this ever happened to us he would kill me!!!:scared1:

Brendan is a Eucharistic Minister....Just throwing that out there!

M..I have no kids but would be willing to help with the Journals for them!

Before you go..... Oh, forget it. No potty humor. :)

Well, since you asked what I think, I'll tell you: The tan isn't bad; but, good Lord, Andrew, get some botox for those bags and wrinkles! :rotfl2:

The day that I saw you post about htis store dh came home from work and started telling me about this store! LOL! I think it was meant for me to go shopping there..... ;)

DH and all 3 of our dd's have wider then *extra wide* feet and so it is very difficult to find comfortable shoes for them.

If your DD is still over here (I quit checking in on her less they call the cops on me for stalking ;) ) there is a The Walking Company right around the corner from her store.

I decided since we were having the mayor at our office for a meeting today I would wear the new shoes I bought for the TOAL. Need to break them in before the cruise right? Bad idea. I was running around all morning setting things up and my feet are killing me. So I decided to take them off. Another bad idea. Now I can't get them back on.:rotfl2: Can you tell I don't wear heels often (even if they are only 1 1/2"). So I guess I will be walking barefoot to the parking garage this evening...with a bag of leftover food from the luncheon. I am afraid I am going to look like a homeless person. These shoes are most certainly for formal/semi-formal night dinner only.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I know it's not really funny, but the fact that you couldn't get them back on is what did me in . . .:goodvibes

I just read this on another part of the Dis, does anyone know any more about it? I am staying at the Disneyland Hotel.

I stayed there summer of 2006 and it was lovely. I was there to eat at Steakhouse 55 around New Year's and the outside/grounds look as wonderful as ever . . . it's where we are staying. GCH had visible construction going on over New year's, you could see it from the rides in California Adventure.

OK

But how is this any different from last summer? You looked just like this . . .

Is it a different accessory or something?

My e-mail this afternoon:

Gentlemen:

Attached is an e-mail and response from February of this year. At that time I was concerned about DCL's ability to handle the May 19, 2008 excursion booking of both the 8/17/08 Magic Repositioning Cruise and the 8/17/08 Wonder Cruise. Since that time, you have made a significant change to your website which has not provided any assurance of improvement. In fact, your website has come to a complete stop in many regards.

At this time, I am unable to add or delete excursions from my wish list. As I understand it, no one can add or delete to their wish list. As such, I will be unable to quickly access preferred excursions when the booking window opens up. Coupled with the fact that you will have two very full ships competing for this inadequate computer system, I am fearful that many will come away with a very bad Disney experience on May 19.

What steps are being taken by DCL to remedy this situation?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

DCL Response:

4/22/08

Dear Tom:

Thank you again for your e-mail.

I have shared your continued concern for our website with the
appropriate management teams. Maintenance is currently underway in
regard to the wish list function you mentioned in this current email.
This functionality should be restored within 48 to 72 hours.

Additionally, I can assure you all appropriate team members are aware
and prepared for the opening of pre-reservations for both the Disney
Wonder and the Disney Magic August 17 sailings.

Thank you again for your concern. We look forward to sailing with you
in August.

Sincerely,

Rebekah
