Thanks for DFs birthday wishes! Our school district is projecting declining elementary enrollment over the next few years. This is debatable and have seen sources that it might actually be increasing over the same time frame. The school district has targeted our school because it is the smallest (in kids) in the district. They feel that closing the smallest school will cause the least disruption. :confused3 But to take a top school and scatter us into 3 of the bottom schools really sinks as far as us parents are concerned. We have had in the past, an option of school choice. You can apply for your child to attend another school in the district other than the one your are assigned to. Funny thing happened yesterday morning, they rescinded the school choice option from our school district prior to the board meeting last night. Now only the kids from the two closing schools can school choice (sounds good so far) BUT you can only school choice to the school you are slated to move to in 2009. :sad2: So basically they are allowing us to move to a school that we are assigned to a year earlier. Anyway, tonight we are having a grass roots meeting to form a charter school. We already have people working on this, so today I am reading about charter schools. Thanks again for all of your words of encouragement.

Roger,

As a cross town neighbor I must say I'm extremely sympathetic. We lost a local school many years ago before we moved into the neighborhood. So it happened to us already... so to speak. And recemtly, I struck up a conversation with a couple of the parents where our daughter was playing indoor soccer - and they were sharing the risk of school closure with you. They spoke at length about various issues and the progression of events as they saw it.

I don't know how to be of any help - but if there was anything I could do as an in town neighbor, let me know.

And on another note - may I express public thanks to our Captain, Todd. I received the Disneyland Park hopper with residual days left on it - and I'll be handing it to our daughters' pre-school teacher tomorrow. She's gonna put it to use this weekend - and although you expressed nothing is desired in compensation - let me simply say you have my gratitude for your generosity. Maybe I can find a way to give thanks to you in a more tangible and tolerable way in the near future...

Thanks Tom! :thumbsup2 From what I understand the Charter school meeting went well tonight. Many of our present teachers attended and were ready to get on board. Lets hope this works out. We (including the kids) have been way to stressed out about this for the last couple of months.

Crash...I feel bad...I wish I'd known Julianna and I shared a special day!

Happy Birthday Julianna!!

You know it is impossible for outsiders to realize the full situation. A parent cannot control everything a child does. I have one child to the outside world is a model child in every way. I have another one that struggles emotionally and socially. Sometimes in public she will act out and it is so embarrassing. All of our neighbors were outside this weekend and Megan screamed an obscenity to me. I know to not react and I am sure ever one who saw me calmly follow her in the house were thinking "She acts that way because she gets away with it". The truth is complete calm is the only thing that "works".
We never know when she will reach this point so most of the time she is a lovely girl. Bottom line is you know the real situation and you Sister does not.

One of my worthless degrees and graduate work is in counseling. I still struggle sometimes on the best thing to do.
Hang in there. I had a professor say that the kids that were raised "right' will stray but will eventually turn around. Hope he is right.

I totally agree with this. As evidenced this week, everyone who met my son this weekend was shocked to find out what happened with his suspension at school. No one in my family other than my parents have seen his rages. They hear my telling of the stories and know he's in treatment, but they can't quite comprehend it all. The kid they see is sweet, polite, caring, and intelligent.

Stay strong Kristina. It may not seem like it, but you will get through this.

May I offer our hopes and prayers for your families that a corner will be turned and things will begin to look up. I do subscribe to the belief that they will grow out of their current profile. Be patient - remain strong and steady.

I think the charter school thing is a SMART move. And I kno... it's easy fer ME to say so looking in from across town. However, the general idea and presumption is charter schools are FREE of the usual influence and politics of the school boards (am I wrong - I probably am)... and my common guy recollections are that Charter school teachers and kids are all pretty smart folks. I tell ya something ... if I like what i see I would be willing to transfer INTO your charter school! I'm a nut and would drive all over for stuff.... if I thought it was a good deal. < wink >

Seriously, do you folks have the critical mass of knowledge in your leadership necessary to pull this off? Not that I know anything about forming such a thing - but I am just thinking out loud here. :confused3

Oh don't you worry a bit over being early or late in saying anything. It's no biggie... and I am not usually one to broadcast such news too widely. I sort of snuk it in with small comments a couple times in recent posts to see if anyone caught on.... or read enough of my postings to even notice.

At any rate, for the moment I am holding down the fort without my spouse tonite - so I've been pretty busy. So much to do - so little time. Everyone knows the drill... which is why I'm trolling late into the evening when the kids are asleep.

OK.. time to resume my wandering on the web...

Good Morning Pirates. Sorry I've been off, but real life hit hard. Finally all caught up again.
:bday: to all I've missed.
:welcome: to all I've missed.
pixiedust: to all who need it.
It looks like everyone had a great time at the mini meet this past weekend. Love all of the pictures.
I really can not wait to join in on the fun on the ship.
*** :offtopic: Forewarning Rambling On :offtopic: ***
I don't mean to ramble but I do need to get things off my mind as to what has been happening in life lately.
DS (soon to be 15) (if he makes it) has been getting into trouble in school and at home, he may not be going on this cruise, he has less than 2 months from now to straighten his mess out.
FIL had passed away earlier this month, and now we need to take care of MIL, which she does not get around too good. DH and I hate to even leave her alone while we go to work, we have been looking for nurses to help out but nothing has come out as of yet, the nurses only come for about 2 hours a day, which would be okay, but then what do you do for the other 6 hours until DH or myself gets home. My MIL has fallen quite a few times and can not get up by herself. She refuses to use that alert button that we have tried to get for her. BIL is no help and neither is any other family members that live in the area. You would think that at times like this, they should want to help, without thinking what can I get in return. It just makes me :furious:
With all of this DH didn't really have a nice birthday, so I have to make it up to him.
Okay I think I'm done rambling for now.

I will look into the tastings on the website, maybe whomever is in charge of that task force, you can probably add 2 lushes to your list. I will send a PM as soon as I figure who I need to send to.
Bye for now, I will try to post more often.

Welcome back. I'm sorry you've been having such a yucky time.

ok yuk..... maybe i could lean towards 5:30 then...I'd rather Plah....

Only problem is we have no idea if they will pick cartagena or aruba.... If cartagena then 5:30 rotation would have PC.

:headache: :headache::headache: :headache: :headache: :headache: :headache:

My knowitall Dsis now tells me i should give up my TOAL because apparently she doesn't think i'm taking good enough care of DD.

Hmmm maybe pot shouldn't call kettle anything as her own step-daughter has never lived with her and DBIL. (she lives with the Ex's mom) Well that and her son is only 4 so not really old enough to cause much trouble YET.

uh oh satellite is out.... Storms a coming....

I'd rather plah also if we are formaling on night 2, but 5:30??? Oy! We're used to eating at 8. I thought there was speculation that they wouldn't stagger start times on the repos.

Can you tell DSis to pack sand? Isn't unsolicited advice fun?

Ick. We've lucked out with Lumieres for formal night in the past. PC just doesn't seem very formal.

SWMBO 'forced' us to change our dining rotation last cruise so we wouldn't be in PC for formal nights. Worked out well though -- we ended up at a table to ourselves, but there was another family at the next table (which in PC and AP was very close) with two little girls about DD's age.

AND it turned out they were DISers.

 to you.... As you may have read...My lovely "might not make it to 15 either" DD is in the same boat. (or off the same boat as the case may be). Right now, I'm not planning on DD joining us. I'm a little sad but as our current counselor says "She didn't earn the right to go."

I'd rather plah also if we are formaling on night 2, but 5:30??? Oy! We're used to eating at 8. I thought there was speculation that they wouldn't stagger start times on the repos.

Purely speculation though...... Although 5:30 pacific time is really 8:30 pm eastern anyway.... So for east coasters probably not bad.

Any other thoughts from Capt's dining.......?

i probably wouldn't mind PC for formal. It's eating at AP on sea days that kills me. (i like windows)

Who is the main contact for the Fish Extender gift signups?

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, but things have been busy -- I think I am the main contact . . . we planned to make a big announcement about signing up for FE after final payment was due. Then we will set a deadline, probably a few weeks before sailing, for signup -- which basically just means giving your cabin number. Then everyone who signed up will get a (hopefully semi-organized) list of cabin numbers. We will also have some kind of system for last minute room assignments/upgrades.

I booked a category 4 on the Eastbound Repo today!!! I am so excited to be joining you all....

There were 4's & 5's available for a bit today but they seem to be gone now.

Margaret, I sure hope life calms down for you all. Sometimes we all get overwhelmed. Hopefully, you will find a solution for your MIL that works for your family. It really makes it hard when everyone that is able doesn't pitch in.

Tom, we already have a legal team that specializes in Charter schools draw up the preliminary charter. We are kind of doing this on the sly at the moment since CVSD does not have any rules on charter schools. We do not want them to get wind of this and start making up restrictions/rules before we present in June. According to the legal team we should be good from a state and county level. I will let you know info as it becomes available.

Purely speculation though...... Although 5:30 pacific time is really 8:30 pm eastern anyway.... So for east coasters probably not bad.

I would rather a 6pm dining time. It will be hard enough to get to dinner when we are in port with the 6pm time. Lumieres would be nice but we could live without. Bottom line, this is not a live or die issue which ever way is decided.

Sorry to read about everyone's school and child issues. I have to say been there done that and glad it is over.:lmao: Didn't really have to deal with closing schools so much. It seems it was always after the girls were in the next level. But I have had my share of issues with the school administration. They once left my daughter on a field trip because she wasn't back at the meeting place on time. They never even called to tell me. I showed up to pick her up and one of the other girls told me what happened. One daughter was in the gifted program and the other struggled with school. But gifted daughter wasn't gifted enough to get help so she was bored and struggling daughter didn't struggle enough to get help so she fell behind. But they are both pretty well adjusted adults now. Gifted daughter is working on her Master's Degree and teaching certificate. Struggling daughter has some medical issues (which may have been the problem even back then) but has a wonderful son and works at Starbuck's. So there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. I am proud of both of them. I think I did a pretty good job and mostly by myself.

Isn't that a great feeling! I would definitey say your "score" makes up for the small inconveniences you will have. Timing is everything!

I purchased our nonstop tickets to LAX the very day they opened up. They were $217 Now 322. My DD is traveling to Chicago and her DH insists on making the reservation 14 days out as he feels this is the best time? We will see.
