Good afternoon. I have a problem and could use a little help, my stress level is maxed with wedding planning and now this. My fiance was told that he is losing his job because they are "restructuring" the sales department. They told all the sales team that they would have to apply and interview for this newly restructured position. 25 people losing their jobs, restructured to 12 positions.

Chris was the first they interviewed last week. Chris just called and found out that another sales team received the interview questions and were able to prepare. To me that is an unfair advantage to the rest of the people and other teams and kind of like favortism. In the government this would be a big problem and would have to go to the Solicitors Office to review, but not sure how it is in the Private Sector. What should Chris do, go to HR? Go to his boss? He is afraid that if he goes to HR that it will lesson his chance of getting the job and be seen as the trouble maker. I told him to do it after he finds out next week who gets the job and he said then it would look like he was mad that he didn't get the job and is making stuff up. They don't have any physical evidence, just hear say. HELP!!

I'm not much help, I work for county government. We could never get away with doing that under Civil Service rules. They may just be talking to freak people out. Unless your fiance can get a hard copy of the questions to take to HR, he should probably just play it by ear. Not really sure what they can do in the private sector. Best wishes to your fiance. Hope it works out.

Now remember you have 6 months 0% on that :thumbsup2 I am in the middle of a bonus program this month and don't have the room for the PIF yet.

The 0% for the vacation packages is not what gets paid first. It is the only card that works this way. It pays the purchases from the current statement and then any additional will go towards the 0%. Bad thing is , any credits to the card do subtract from the vacation. They still haven't fixed it yet and have no solution either. Phone or Internet Payments done before 4pm EST will be processed after midnight (except Saturdays :confused3 ) and be available the next day. If you made a payment yesterday and also paid off the trip remember it takes 1-3 days for that charge to actually post to the card and therefore you would have a very slight chance of overdraft.
Also, please remember to order your reward cards. They take 2 weeks to get to you and are good til the end of 09. You can have 2.If you forget, it can be picked up at GS in the ticket area of DL, and in the parks ate and inside the parks at city hall (?) (I should know this :lmao: ) I personally have 2. One I ordered and 1blank I picked up at DTD. I will have both in case I lose one. Remember, in spite of all our suggestions, the Ships DO NOT have the blank reward cards and if you forget yours :confused3 So maybe we should remind everyone going to the parks Saturday before the cruise,to stop by GS and pick up an additional card for those who may have forgotten ? They can call and activate it anytime. Hope that answers any questions. I'm done.

Thanks so much for posting this. I am also happy to be PIF on both of our staterooms, and was excited to get the Disney rewards and 0 percent interest. But I got really scared after reading that our current balance would not be paid until after our trip was paid off. I am so happy to see that its not the case. Thanks for the info!

Doing the PIF dance and saving another 90 bucks! :yay:  :woohoo: :cheer2:

Hi Folks

Just want to share another e.mail received from DCL.

They will be contacting clients that are affected by this to let them know if their Mickey Bar's are affected and adjustments will be made to your pricing over the next few weeks.

Only reservations made by people that are currently Doctor Who lover's are exempt from the increase in tax on Mickey bar's. If you say you love DW and later you make a modification to that statement your taxes will be adjusted at that time as well.

This only affects cruises of 15 nights in August 2008
From DCL:

Effective today, for NEW sailings commencing 8/17/08 and beyond that include 15 nights on ship, the Government Taxes and Fees are increasing $5.00 per Mickey bar. The sailings affected are: 15-Night Eastbound Panama Canal, .

This covers all Mickey bar's ordered by room service or in the restaurants, and the charge is per item ordered.

For existing reservations that are not Doctor Who lovers, -a BBC tv Sci Fi programme, the Government Taxes and Fees will be adjusted over the next few weeks. Guests and Travel partners with existing reservations will be receiving a letter and an updated confirmation reflecting the change. All must love the Doctor!

As a reminder, Government taxes and fees are subject to change and are mandated by the government.

For those worried about these changes please contact Captain Crash, he also will not have a clue, but, I just want to fill up his PM inbox.:thumbsup2

Please do not call DCL or a T/A directly about this as they will say they do not know anything about this as they have all been hypnotized by ''the Master.''

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. I work for the federal government in HR and this would be huge if it happened here, but private sector is so different. I was thinking that they must have some kind of rules for equal employment so maybe when selections are made they need to ask what there basis was for selection. If they say interview, then I think maybe he could file a grievance? :confused3

Follow up letter:

Dear XXXXX

I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to interview with you on (date). It was a peasure to be the first (one of first) to interview.... blah, blah, blah ....

I want to take this opportunity to supplement some of my answers to the excellent questions posed during the inteview.

Blah, blah, blah supplemental stuff.

What an advantage it would have been to have those questions in advance.

Thanks, you rock, what a great company, etc. blah, blah, blah

Too funny! :lmao:

Well dang. My "little biopsy" turns out to be basal cell cancer. The bad thing is this on the side of my nose. At least I will be easily identifiable on the cruise cause I will have only half a nose!:lmao:
Oh well! We all have something.

Coral

Needless to say I hate s***! This has really been a winter.

Which is why i live nowhere near the lake....

I keep trying to get my DGP'S out of western pa. They hate snow too but chose to live in the snow belt.

Ok fess up time!

From December 31st to last week I lost 2 stone, about 4 Ilbs a week, last week I did 'extra' exercise. walked a lot more, keep my diet on and was very good, and put ON a Ilb, just the one, but put it on, when I expected it to be my best week ever and I have had to pay a fine.
:sad1:

 Sometimes it happens Andrew....

I exercise every day (and pretty hard too) but some weeks (or many weeks this month) that stupid scale just won't budge or it will be 1 up/1 down. :confused3

And she had a 15% off coupon too, so she got the 2 garment bags for $42.50 instead of $198. That's a 78% savings!

SWEET!!!:yay: I  my rolling garment bag.

Good afternoon. I have a problem and could use a little help, HELP!!

That's one of the drawbacks of the private sector....And there's that whole employment at will thing which means they could "let him go" for any reason.

 I hope it works out but if it doesn't he probably didn't want to stay anyway.... From my past, a huge restructuring sometimes means they just want to become more profitable on paper to sell the company. :headache:

S*** was one of many reasons I left Western PA. Then for some idiotic reason (my job), I left the South to come to Chicago.

Uh oh...

Kinda makes me want to re-think that tanning beforehand but if i don't have a base...i usually risk a pretty bad burn.

Guess i won't be the only one carrying around that waterproof 50'ish SPF sunscreen.

This sounds sort of "grey" if ya kno what I mean....

... to some extent it could be tipping the hand to the other sales team members - then again, if the interviewing staff KNOW this difference in insight exists then they should give MORE credit to those who interviewed without benefit of the questions in advance.

Off hand ... it does sound like the comapny botched it up though and that leaves a stink in the air - no doubt about it.

So... what can I offer of tangible aid...? I don't know what to honestly say except it maybe practical to widen your search for employment. We have a few friends locally who have lost their jobs at Countrywide and Amgen ... and they're in varying stages of job transition. In the cases I can recall now the new found job offers appear just as good if not slightly better then what they were doing at thier old jobs. So I'd like to hold this our as a POSITIVE consideration.

Aside from that ... I would NOT make waves with HR. You never know how an action may affect you down the road. Especially in a case with no evidence or clear cut damages. Consulting proper legal counsel or a professional HR staff person could render a true sense of where you stand ... alas, I would probably approach your HR last to enquire though.

First, let me say that really blows. Unfortunately, private companies don't have to be fair in hiring practices as long as they aren't discriminating. Is there a union involved (you mentioned the word 'grievance' but sales are not usually union positions). Is there any way to get the company on discrimination grounds (age, gender, race, etc.)?

Otherwise, I'd wait until after the jobs are selected before complaining.

And, of course, take comfort that any company that would do something like this isn't a company you'd want him working for anyway.

Coral

I was going to say 'that stinks' but maybe a nose pun isn't appropriate now?

I am so sorry to hear this, Coral, but I am glad to see you have a sense of humor about it. :grouphug:

Shopping/math alert

I guess the shopping powers of some of the wenches on this thread have rubbed off on Linda. She went to Kohl's today, and was looking at the luggage. They had a Buy One Get One Free sign and they also had a sale sign by the rolling garment bags. They were originally $99 each, but were on sale for $50. She asked a salesperson if they were also BOGO free. He asked a manager who said that the BOGO sale ended yesterday and they missed taking down the signs. So she offered her the opportunity to buy two of them for $50. Of course she took them. And she had a 15% off coupon too, so she got the 2 garment bags for $42.50 instead of $198. That's a 78% savings!

Another convert! :dance3:

Told you it was addictive! Good for her - she'll be saving your tons of money Mike - aren't you glad you found us? :rotfl:

Better they found out now rather than after your nose fell off right???

I love your attitude about it.

Hang in there, we'll love you anyway  .......even if we have to avert our eyes.

You're Moving???!????

How did I miss this? How could you possibly leave this wonderful weather?

Oh well, best of luck. Wish we could have met before you left Chitown (but that's my fault, not yours).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. After I told him all of your thoughts, I think it helped him with his decision and decided to just keep quiet and do a follow-up letter. Definitely need a few drink after the last few days!

Coral - I am sorry it turned out to be a cancer cell. Hugs to you.

......and then suddenly, from out of nowhere, buckidad tackles both boys and overtakes bacon platter.

He's not going to let a couple of adorable little boys stand in his way, I'm warning you right now. When we talk about what we are looking forward to about the cruise, he always mentions bacon.

Of course, buckigirl (dd8) will be standing sideline, lamenting "poor piggies". She is a vegetarian.

Now how'd that happen? A Veggie in a Piggy Family? :lmao:

(You KNow- no wonder people think we're strange)

:lmao: :lmao:
Just DO NOT get behind my DH in line. He doesn't see a buffet as a meal - he sees it as a challenge!

Oh I can see we will be having challenges - I wanna see - BTW M, on pirate: buffet - your DH isn't the one that hogs all the turkey legs does he? I always miss them - when I find that culprit! (;) )

Hi everyone.............thought I would take the time to post today - and I need to vent. I have hurt my foot and now may not be able to run in the 10k I have trained so hard for. All those cold mornings when it was in the teens and 20's i still went out and ran my 3 or 4 miles and now it may be all for not! I killed my ankle yesterday, went to urgent care and they took xrays. Good news is nothing is broken or fractured. Off to an orthopedic tomorrow to hopefully get it resolved. Dr. did say she thinks that is may be a ligament or tendon problem. Funny thing is ALL i was doing when I hurt it was relaxing! Went to get up and my foot & ankle would not work! So frustrating! I really cannot put my weight on it, very painful! Luckily I have some crutches here to help me get from point A to Point B but its my right foot - Yep, I can't drive! Whew........thanks for letting me get that out!

After hitting urgent care yesterday, I did not get home until 7:30 and got my email from Dreams stating that I had until 8pm to pay off our cruise or get charged those extra $$.. DH said just pay it off so at least that was the good thing that happened, got our TOAL PIF last night and right before the deadline so no extra charges for us.

We also got bad news last night, our neighbors daughter who is 16 was involved in a very serious car accident with 5 other teenagers night before last. All were very seriously injured, they rolled an SUV and hit a tree. No drugs or alcohol, just some kid driving way too fast and lost control. My neighbors daughter has crushed her leg pretty good and another boy has a broken back. They are all lucky to be alive. It takes me back to when I was a new driver and that age, i never worried about getting hurt or what would happen if....I lived in the moment - HOW SCARY!

I guess since I will be off the next couple of days you all will hear more from me. I am going to be doing some trip planning I guess!:goodvibes

Sorry to hear about your foot - please take care of it - you don't want to mess with soft tissue - DD tore a ligament and her miniscuc in Feb of her Jr year. She got operated on in July and was still on crutches until Dec and was supposed to wear her brace for at least 6 months after. So she was one of the only ones to end the school year in crutches and started it back up in crutches.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor's dd - but at least she is still alive. When it comes down to it - I'd rather lose a limb than not be here. I try so hard to make the kids realize they are not invincible or immortal but as you say - kids will be kids. I'm glad no one died. hopefully they will all soon be on the road to recovery. As well as you - come join us here on the DIS - we'll make you laugh. ;)
