I will NOT show that to DS10. He's been working on his Mindstorms project all week. He's got the older version though.

The flush fines will remain in place.

Oopps!

I somehow missed this Diane! I'm usually a little better about catching things more or less.... I must declare my Innocence in this matter... and with that, may I offer belated:

congrats.gif

Thank you Crash! :flower3:

That's so cool, Diane. And you have every right to brag on her. She sounds like a great kid.

Thanks Deanna! :goodvibes

OK that just sounded so much better when it rolled off my tongue - but the DIS is not cooperating - HOWEVER, just an observation - it had no problem posting on the board but for some reason - it doesn't seem to like PM'ing Tom31b? :scratchin

Wonder if there's a reason folks? You think? :lmao:

:ssst: OK - don't talk to much - I am working on a secret mission! Be very very quiet! :ssst:

It's not just you! Verandah Man just told me that he tried PM me about an old meet thread & it wouldn't go through. :confused3

devil_tempting.gif

Come on then- book! I read the Doctor and Star wars crew are in the Cat 1's

However...

... seriously we're still in the middle of final plans for next month in Yosemite and June in Boston .... and we still have yet to book our travel in coordination with family and friends for the TOAL! Let alone work out the niggly details for Italy next year - as if it might come true with all the complications we're struggling with with everyone involved.

So, you say we have Time Lords and Storm Troopers chasing Jedi Knights up among the catragory 1 cabins, eh? Well, the only thing missing are cast and crew from Star Trek with thier attendant Orion Slave Girls:

Tell me where the Orions are berthed and I'll book in 3 winks!

Exercising off your dinner??? :goodvibes

And, please pass my congratulations on to DD.

Thank you! :)

And it certainly did feel like exercise by about the 20th toast! Okay I'm exaggerating, but I swear there were at least 10. They toasted to George, each other, the essay winners, the parents of the essay winners, etc. The Masons sure are a fun bunch! I must say very community oriented too! :thumbsup2

Oh and a funny thing. They had 2 bowls of punch sitting on blocks of wood. Well I didn't notice that one block was plain while the other had a spike on it. Get it spiked? Good thing DD didn't like the taste of the cup I got her! :rolleyes2

Hello Laurrie!

At least you KNOW how many pages you're behind by! Me ... I'm having trouble figuring out what and where I've missed postings on thread #3!

Well now... Spiked Punch brings back some memories from my youthful days...

The main singularity is these were boys. They apparently do significantly worse than girls. The Dr's and nurses were relieved when I showed up at 20 weeks (barely even showing) in premature labor that I was having a girl. When Megan was born at 24 she did well except for a couple hiccups. The boys even born later gestational when we were in the NICu did not fare very well. :guilty:

Coral this is true most of the time. :confused3 For some reason we need to be born later and die earlier, go figure.

Thank you all so much! I really hate to brag, but in this case I couldn't resist! :goodvibes We are so darn proud of her! This isn't the first time she's won an essay contest. Last time we all got to ride the trolley in the local Santa Claus Parade. That one could've been a fluke, but apparently the girl's got a knack for writing. Who knew? :confused3 :cool1:

Diane please pass along congratulations to your DD. Being able to express herself in writing is probably one of the greatest skills that she could possess.

You know, these guys are going to be so disappointed to meet me in person and find out that I am really a very shy, boring person.

Oh come on Stace, I am expecting big things when Captain Jack, Xena and the Nutmeg Man invade DL in a couple of weeks.

And BIP Welcome back we all missed you. Hope that you get things ironed out so you can join us. By the way I think there was a red pirate shirt with your name on it.

Crash (Tom) you probably remember us talking about school closures last year some time, well the school district has made its final (maybe) selection. DD7 elementary school will be one of the two schools to be closed in fall of 2009. All of the parents have started a massive campaign to change their minds but it will be a long shot. There is a lot of politics involved and we will have to wait and see what happens. If they do close our elementary school DD will have to either take a bus or car pool to a new undisclosed location no where near our house. We are really disturbed about the emotional effect on DD let alone the fact that there will no elementary school within 5 miles of us and what that might do to property values.

..oh, dear pbager..jus to finish up...* i thought..your observation
is very significant ...for rethinking...the pre-natal visits. & the
other comment made ...about women being stronger..living longer....
together..are motivational sources...that can support so many
newborns.

...hello ?..message for our primary school systems..& my
expectations. pre-natal..while significant for increasing the odds
for healthy newborns...has limitiations. pre-natal...can not
overcome...lifestyles..of poor nuttrition/drug history-street &
esp. rxs, and chronic health..conditions [ including smoking/
etoh/diabetes & so forth]. also...while not well recognized ,are
emotional truma..including physical abuse.

work stressors....alot of women...have entered the "force"...some
by choice..but most..as ..the primary bread winner. & all the
pressures..that goes with it..has closed the gap, life expectancy.

....however, all together..the soultions..are self evident. and should
be part of our school systems' teachings.

the "ob team"..is also self evident...with the leader...during labor?
..the rn. [ the rn's i worked with guided..the obstetricians i saw
accomplished..sucess..."listend", to the labor nurse] . inside,
besides..the obstetrican.., the labor rn, the rotating nurse/assitant
and.....the pedestrian...with a background in...neonatal intensive
care. that i believe, would put a "dent"..in the losses. oh, all labor
& delivery rooms..should be next door...to the surgery department.

...we had a bunch of students, a nursery rn "filling in" for the labor
rn, and no ob doctors..in the "house". & "we"..already....had serious
s//s indicators..from her being way over the dates....* & you kno..
his big..head..sure made...a "big belly bump"..so yeah, they knew..
& we 're left..by ourselves. ..

how...do so many get by...with such negligence?...quite simple, we
have a legal system..not a justice system.

so i think...pre-natal..is very :thumbsup2 , however, it has its limitations.
today,i am no expert,,,or even well inforemd...but if i was placed in
charge..of improving...newborns' chances..i would be seeking out those
actually doing the work..not the so call "experts".

..jus a lil'plug..for mental health. those working in my area..are well
aware..of the fictional image..projected by the media. it can be
defined..in specfics terms..making it useful and fun...to increase
one's quality of life. all the time, & everywhere...we most often defined
a human being by physical education. medical health..is in~deeds
.."helps" determine....one life span...[to me] , jus as important..is
mental health, determing the "joys" one will experience during their
life span. m,y goodness...how so many simple concepts..are mis-
understood....for example...it isn't abnormal..to feel depress if
one learns..they have cancer?

what i have learn..has helped "me"...get so much out of life,
especially doing self improvments. :flower3: ha!...my lil'miss..gets
on my lecturing...:rolleyes2 , true. but...if it's common sense..
why isn't it being used? it is self evident..one of the tops, is
finding someone..to "share" life with. on the flip side, loneliest -
is one of the most painful condition to deal with. icu versus
an acute psych.ward..ha! icu, was where i had to managed the
most bizzard behaviors....however, if one thinking the "fight
for life"..is the most stressful event.

helping those with mental health...problems. well, as it is self evident,
there's a large gap..between..those with problems needing addressed
and those resulting in law violations....society ignoring our country
menatl health needs..until the person "spikes" across the law boundary.
over & over again...we keep doing the same..ineffective responses...
until the next one..well it isn't in my neighborhood..attitude...is "killing"
alot people.

in reality..i like mental health..because its alot..of fun! & very useful.
[ tip, aloto f my sucess & over coming obstacles..came from this
investment. ]...mental health jus for the ":crazy2: "..is ignorance not
bliss..psst, every person..will have deficits/stressors..resulting in
emitonal pain. "we" are eqipped to address/rcover..by our "support
systems"...if one becomes what one practices..then, it only stand to
reason....we should do the today..the things we like to remember,
tommorrow?

ms. sp. was/ is a good example..cause it been played on the media
scene. loook how far...before society kicked in....& think..if she
was your old plain neighbor?....sure meds, will suport her chemical
balance..but...she also needs "structure"..to redirect her toward
a priductive/positive ..daily rouitnes..meeting both her physical /
emtioinal needs..to calmed..her "jetters". & its about time...her
parents..were invilved...[ i think it is understood....no body loves
a person..then their parents...as my kids' interests].

..so yes, ms. pbager,, its encouraging ..reading how many care
about our future generation. and yes, i think..we can/should be
improving our health care..acrcross the boards....& that alot great
things can be accomplished..with just recognizing...the family
values..from our parents. * removing the mistakes.

now that iam getting close....to retirement...:hyper: , pixiedust: !
hooray too!

..i am trying to pass..on.. all the gifts..that were given to me. i
can't tell you why exactly..but i feel its important to me....to honor
those..that care so much about helping others. after all...some day..
i am hoping..my lil'kiddies..get to experience..the joys..of parent-hood?

[ oh.why..teach..our youth..such ..things?...so when they are having
their own..babies....they know "how" they should be treated..to prevent
neglect]. oh, sometimes..grandparents..are very interesting..we had
this one set..they ..had...the baby..life..all planned out...:scratchin ,
woo..he be almost 30 ..today. however, it is my "senior" belief..as
a group..we are obligated..toward assisting.caring for the world we
leave behind.

here's one thing ..i remember..the nurses..did..when there was a
reported crib death..don't think..they didn't go back ..and reviewed
every step....i can't expressed..how dedicated..these women were,
:flower3:

hooeyhooter..." :offtopic: "...i saw on another site....where they're
talking about....favorite dcl gifts..my..is the dcl towels...!
.oh, meeting mr. crasher.. his& lil'ones !

OK whomever broke the DIS really tee'd me off! :furious:

I've been trying to PM Tom31 but the last 40 minutes have really made so :furious: I want to punch this screen out.

Someone please tell me its the DIS and not my computer? Been having trouble since yesterday.

Got your message x8!

We are really disturbed about the emotional effect on DD let alone the fact that there will no elementary school within 5 miles of us and what that might do to property values.

Roger,

I'm truly sorry to hear of this. We take a gymnastics class in Newbury Park and some of the families in the class were concerned about closures there too. They spoke of the emotional and dark political potential in the proposed closures.

Some thought there was some kind of motive in some of the decisions - and otheres said there was a certain logic ... supposedly. While others spoke of how the Board of Supervisors (?) did not disclose their compensation - while the proposed closures were of truly minimal impact on the total district budget. IE, how much did the supervisors make in relation to the savings being sought through the closures.

On another note, BEFORE we moved into our neighborhood they had closed a local school - and leased it out immediately to a private school. So, the thinking goes that they (the powers that be) might have had a business (or under the table) motive in closing our local school. Now - this all happened BEFORE we moved in - and long before we began to THINK about starting a family (after we moved in). So it was only natural for us to consider the drive to our present Elementary school.. which is a few miles away.

So, will your property values fluctuate on account of this? I don't know. Five miles sounds like a lot as I don't think I have to drive 5 miles now - and I have to ask if the school you'll be diverted to is a higher ranked/performing one or otherwise. Now, pretty much 4 of 5 schools in the Conejo rank among the top 5 or 10% of Ventura schools by their so call percentage of "normal" performing students. Which raises another sore point I have with the methodology of their testing of schools. Which I'll not go any further into now.

As for your options... I imagine you could potentially mitigate some of the damage by checking with the parents of your daughters; best friends to see where they are thinking of going .... assuming you have priority in making an elective "school choice" exercise. Perhaps you can join or guide a decision among your daughters' best friends to go to the same school - and perhaps it will favor your usual traffic patterns?

I imagine I must be sounding blissfully optimistic. I dunno... I don't know too much of the whole thing - regretfuly. And please understand - I am indeed sympathetic... it's just that honestly I'm not well versed in the details.

Aside from that - may I offer a brief and simplistic tangent? The upcoming Easter occassion will be celebrated at the Regan Library ... and in past years - in addition to a nice range of kids activity booths and diversions - they've given out lots of things as free gifts for attending. FOr starters - they have given out free admissions to Magic Mountain, and free enbroidered basball hats with an image of the aircraft carrier Ronald Regan, and Jelly Bellies, and so on. We usually go every year... often with the family who has the Mom who had surgery to remove the growth in her head recently.

Well... the Regan Library events are recommended for attending as a family freindly diversion.

OK... excuse me as the kids need some help loading something on their computer....

Laurie, it doesn't matter how many sarcastic replies Darren is thinking of now . . . he's going to be HOPELESSLY outnumbered!:rotfl:

I really liked I am Legend, too -- saw it twice -- Will Smith totally carried that movie.

I'm a big Will Smith fan:thumbsup2 Loved him in Pursuit of Happyness too. I watched the movie Parenthood last night on cable tv. That is one of my favorites. Still funny no matter how many times I watch

I missed chat tonight. I went to a co-workers DH's "wake" or "viewing" tonight. Poor guy was my age (42) and died very unexpectantly. I was counting up and I have been to 5 funerals or viewings on co-workers spouses or kids over the last 16 1/2 years. We used to be a very close knit "family".
42, that's younger than me. How sad:sad2:

I loved trying the Segway!!!:flower3:

Me too:thumbsup2 What a blast:cool1:

LG, I think for as advanced as our medical care is that it is very disturbing the amount of babies that don't make it. We assume that by keeping all our dr. appts and getting all the tests they give nowadays that things will go as planned. It is very sad that is not the case.:sad1: :sad1:
I took a Developmental Biology class in college and was floored by how complicated the whole process is--going from a ball of cells to a complete human being. It actually is amazing that it happens perfectly as often as it does.

Yes, I also have a close family member who found out 5 months into her pregnancy that the baby had a terrible genetic disease, dealt with the news for the next four months, gave birth and he (Noah) died less than 24 hours later. Another close friend went in for a routine OB checkup at 8 months and they couldn't find the heartbeat -- he (Ari) was delivered stillborn. I say the names of these babies because I know how much it means to the parents to have them acknowledged as people rather than as objects. Anyone who is lucky enough to have healthy children, for all that they drive us up the wall often, have to remember what a blessing it is.
Julie when my DS was born by c-section I was in recovery afterwards and the nurses had to ask my family to leave. Also in recovery, on the other side of a sheet divider, was another Mom that was not so lucky. Her baby didn't survive the c-section:sad2: Andrew had some breathing problems and had to go to the NICU, but he was wailing up a storm and I knew he'd be ok. Always think about that Mom on his birthday.

Am I the only one that "heard JD's voice in this?

(Someone please say yes!)

That does it! I've been spending entirely TOO much time on here! I'm certifiably (or however you spell it) going
Relax, I heard the JD voice in that comment too:lmao:

Just got back from an awards ceremony hosted by the local Masonic lodge. DD won an essay about George Washington & apparently old George was a Mason and is now quite revered by the modern day Masons. All the winners and their parents were invited to a sit-down dinner and each student had a chance to read their essays to the audience. There were a total of 4 winners out of 74 entries from the 8th grade class. DD won a $50 savings bond, $25 gift card to Staples, $10 certificate to a local sub shop, free tickets to a magic show, an invitation for the family to attend a Masonic pancake breakfast and she even won a door prize of a Foose ball table! :cool1:

It was a fun evening and everyone was really friendly and welcoming, but those Masons sure like to make a lot of toasts! I never sat down & stood up so much at a dinner before in my life! :confused3

WOW, how cool:cool1: Congrats:cheer2:

We got the old 2003 version of the Passporter when it was on sale for $1. DS10 was reading it to us in the car today...

DS10: "If you need another copy of your Personal Navigator go to Guest Regulations..."

Me: "Huh? try that word again, and read all the letters."

DH: "Crusie ships with those all start with USS."

I'm dying in the front seat and the boys are saying "What? What?"
.
