Crash (Tom) you probably remember us talking about school closures last year some time, well the school district has made its final (maybe) selection. DD7 elementary school will be one of the two schools to be closed in fall of 2009. All of the parents have started a massive campaign to change their minds but it will be a long shot. There is a lot of politics involved and we will have to wait and see what happens. If they do close our elementary school DD will have to either take a bus or car pool to a new undisclosed location no where near our house. We are really disturbed about the emotional effect on DD let alone the fact that there will no elementary school within 5 miles of us and what that might do to property values.

Roger, I'm so sorry to hear this.

When DS was in kindergarten, they announced that an old elementary school that is less than 6 blocks from us was being re-opened, however we were supposedly on the wrong side of the street for him to attend that school. At the end of the school year, we received his class assignment for the next year - a teacher at the school he was attending.

The summer went by and the school bus schedule was posted in the paper and I discovered that DS's bus route was going to the other school. I immediately contacted administration and was told that yes, DS was going to that school. I asked when they intended on informing of us of this change - that we had no time to prepare him and that this could be emotionally damaging to him. Of course, we never did get an answer as to why we were never notified but DS went to the school the first day and had no problems adjusting. I think what really helped was DH took him to the school the day before it opened and he was given a tour and that he had friends from his old school with him.

During his second year in the school (second grade) the school board started talking about closing the school down because it was too small (of course, why they didn't think of this before they opened it back up was again never discussed). I attended several school board meetings with other concerned parents, got petitions together, etc. - we did manage to get them to not close the school.

Hopefully, you will be able to make them change their minds regarding the closing of your school, but on the off chance it doesn't work I hope that your DD has the same easy adjustment that my DS did.

I gave up trying to make my Mom behave years ago! She ever tell you guys about her Xena Warrior Princess impression?

I'm trying to have fun planning the wedding, it's a whole lot easier, when I just think about it being a big party, instead of a wedding!

I am planning a wedding as well...and that is a great way to think of it! A big fun party!!

Maybe I should get this one....I could get extra use out of it by wearing it to Mike's vow renewal.:flower3:
At least it looks like it would fit.

That reverse psych doesn't work on me, just ask my DH. When he says "Whatever you want dear" I take him at his word. Even though I KNOW he didn't mean it.

Hers (Megan's) is going to be called MY BIG FAT GEEK WEDDING :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
The fiance is in the computer biz.

Just got back from an awards ceremony hosted by the local Masonic lodge. DD won an essay about George Washington & apparently old George was a Mason and is now quite revered by the modern day Masons. All the winners and their parents were invited to a sit-down dinner and each student had a chance to read their essays to the audience. There were a total of 4 winners out of 74 entries from the 8th grade class. DD won a $50 savings bond, $25 gift card to Staples, $10 certificate to a local sub shop, free tickets to a magic show, an invitation for the family to attend a Masonic pancake breakfast and she even won a door prize of a Foose ball table! :cool1:

It was a fun evening and everyone was really friendly and welcoming, but those Masons sure like to make a lot of toasts! I never sat down & stood up so much at a dinner before in my life! :confused3

Congrats to your daughter! That is wonderful!

Chrissie

Someday I'd like for DH and I to renew our vows and then have a party afterwards - along the lines of the old Italian "football" receptions.

Don't believe a word of it! She's just as much fun, if not more, in person!

Well,

Megan, your Mom looks like a real wild one hangin' with the giant Build-a-Bear creature on Castaway caye. And may I add... your Mom looks unusually radiant iwith her smile in this photo below... So, what else can you tell us that we can use to taunt and tease her with? < wink >

Julie when my DS was born by c-section I was in recovery afterwards and the nurses had to ask my family to leave. Also in recovery, on the other side of a sheet divider, was another Mom that was not so lucky. Her baby didn't survive the c-section:sad2: Andrew had some breathing problems and had to go to the NICU, but he was wailing up a storm and I knew he'd be ok. Always think about that Mom on his birthday.

One morning when I was in the hospital I spiked a bit of a temp and my Maternal Specialist (forgot what they were called) was worried that the baby was getting sick in utero so after 3 1/2 weeks of trying to keep the baby in, they broke my water. It was a very fast process from there. They were running down the hall toward L&D. By the time we got there an entire team from the NICU was already there setting up for Megan.
It surely helped that I was in a level III hospital in a major metropolitan area.
Anyway afterwards they put me in a shared room w/ a very happy woman who had just given birth and was sharing her baby with her whole family. I LOST it!!! I just burst out crying convinced that I had been unable to keep my baby safe and because of my body- she was going to die. My mom threw a HUGE fit insisting they find me a private room. I guess they felt sorry for me because I was taken to the Presidential Suite. Posh!
I am sure it is not always possible but I would think they would try to keep traumatized parents away from the elated ones.
I was so glad with Miranda that even though she was 5 weeks early she came out 8 lbs 13 ozs and I had the "normal birth experience".

Yannoo...

... I'm still dying to use my Anakin "Dark Sith" Jedi costume. You suppose Mike would tolerate me on Castaway Caye if I attended in full costume? Of course, if they said "OK", I'd have to find the space to pack it along - as the outfit is pretty bulky - easily taking up more then a standard roll aboard in volume with the boots, cloak and so on.... but excluding the light saber.

Maybe it's just as well that I not bring the Jedi outfit after all - seein; as I have 2 tuxes, a pirate outfit, and regular clothes to boot.

We'd like to renew our vows too someday. However, I suspect a vow renewal will take place in Hawaii since we have a bunch of relatives out that a way - OR - who knows what/where we really might do this when (if) we get around to it. Alas, it sounds really FUN to host a vow renewal with a gathering of old and dear friends and family!

I am surprised to hear about the school closings. There are 4 elementary schools within 3 miles of our house. They are all fairly new and registration of 650-800 each, they are pretty big.
They cannot build schools fast enough here. We are SOOOO in the burbs. Everyone moves out here and has kids.

Since we had a surprise costume Halloween wedding- we need to be normal someday and have a regular vow renewal. After all Bill's Captain Hook mustache kept trying to fall off. :rotfl:

Oh Coral, I didn't even know that the other Mom was in recovery with me because of the sheet divider and I felt so bad that she could probably hear me and my family talking:sad2:
Your Mom sounds like my Mom too. Still looking out for you:thumbsup2
Things get crazy in hospitals (I worked in a hospital admitting office back in 86-87), but the nurses are usually good about keeping the moms that need to be separated in different rooms. Someone really goofed with you:sad2:
Really, 24 weeks is amazing.

Crash I was sorting through old toys to give to charity and had to ask Darren if I could give away the blue and red plastic light sabers. He goes No, we're keeping those:rolleyes:
He watched episode 1 eight times in the movie theaters when it came out:crazy2:
He's calmed down now, somewhat:lmao:
His name on the Star Wars forums is Darth Scooby.

Now THAT sounds like fun!!!!

I found this picture. You can tell Bill's mustache is completely crooked. That sweet man with us is the Judge. Doesn't he look like Judge Wapiner?
Although we are rather traditional people we decided to have some fun with our wedding.

Was this a vow renewal? Gotta see pictures:lmao:
Oooh, see now that you posted them:thumbsup2
Very cool:cool1:

I want to do a vow renewal some day also.
Gonna take notes during Mike and Linda's:thumbsup2
