BREAKING NEWS: Fern Creek High and Elementary Schools on Lockdown

Man seen with gun inside High School; no one hurt
Wednesday, February 20, 2008
LOUISVILLE, Ky -- Fern Creek High School and Fern Creek Elementary schools are on lockdown, after a student reported seeing somone with a gun early Wednesday morning. LMPD Chief of Staff Troy Riggs tells 84WHAS that they cannot confirm that yet, but are taking no chances and have locked down both schools as a precaution while officers go room to room searching for a possible suspect. No one has been injured, and Riggs says while he understands parents may be upset, he is urging them to "stand by" and not go to the school.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I hate it when that happens!! Even if it turns out to be "nothing" it's still scary!

Fingers crossed for Adam and the rest of the school & prayers too!

Adam's school has been on lockdown now for about 2 hours. Someone called 911 to say that a student had a gun or appeared to have one. I have been texting him and he said he is OK. They aren't really telling the students what is going on. So I am glued to the TV this morning.

Paula, you must be very nervous! Thank goodness for text messaging . . . please keep us posted.

The Bat Grandma story is one of those where "you had to be there".

I have no idea how it came about, other than seeing my mom chasing the kids through the house (all in fun) with her robe (or just arms) spread up like wings and saying in a low voice "baaaaat graaaaandma"!!!
The kids rolled on the floor with laughter.:rotfl2: Still do.

It's funny to see her do it, because she's barely 5 ft tall and only weighs 95 lbs. Yeah, sad, I had to take after her with my height (or lack thereof) and Dad with my weight.

Told ya, it's one of those "have to be there".

That is a cute story. My Mom is "Grandma Giggles" becasue she used to call the girls when they were little and talk in a funny voice that always mae them laugh so she was "Giggles".

One of the pitfalls of ordering online. I have 2 dresses I ordered from Coldwater Creek that I can't wait to get back to the store--they were awful looking when I tried them on.

It is a shame that weddings cause this much stress. It is hard when you get this picture in your mind that is perfect---then the search begins to actually find it.

I buy 50% of my wardrobe from there and the other 50% at Eddie Bauer. I mail ordered only for years and they were kind enough to open up one very close to my house. Makes returns easier.

That is scary. Thank goodness you know he is OK. Kids should be have to be exposed to that. Keep us updated.

It is good that they take it seriously.... better than just discounting it and not checking.

Hoping all will be resolved quickly and favorably!!

Ladies..

Please help me here.. This is the scenario

I like this one better, and you might get some use out of it on the cruise.

But I also ditto what M said - you need to be comfortable. The question is, which will make you more comfortable, pleasing DD, or wearing the dress of your choice? I think it kind of depends on DD, how reasonable she's being about the wishes of others with respect to the wedding, and how badly will she take it if you do someting else.

Not a clue. I didn't start my pot a day coffee habit until I was 18 and presumably done growing anyway. I just stopped growing when I was 12, which frankly was a relief because the only part of me that had been growin was my legs. My brother refered to me as pants and a head. Nice.

Sibling's purpose in life is to ensure we don't grow up thinking too much of ourselves. Good to see your brother took his job seriously. :rotfl:

Our boys are going to get along famously!
We are in so much trouble. :sad2:

My Dad's name: Bruce
FIL's name: Wayne

We did name him after his grandpas - just used their middle names.

:rotfl2: And does he thank you every birthday? He should!

I am sure that you will let us know when you hear more.....:grouphug:

Oh how scary.
I hope it is an overly cautious nothingburger.

Please keep us posted.

Ah, forgot, need precision wording here..... was anyone going to take this on (wristbands)? Were we going to get them? Pink and purple polkadots?

Tom, Tom, Tom, with your two boys you haven't figured that out yet?? :sad2:

Last trip to WDW....

DH to DS10: "Did you put sun screen on?"
DS10: "Yes."
Me: Sigh. "Did you apply sun screen to two legs, two arms, your face, neck, and ears?"
DS10: "Uh, no. Give the the sun screen."

That's right up there with my conversation going out the door this morning:

"You didn't tell me to brush my teeth."

Well, maybe not today, but every other day of your life...

Nope no entry here.... Abby is only our "pet" ie freak due to her height. SHe is purebred but we had her fixed because she had an umbilical hernia (which can go heredity on our breed).

I tried carting. I just have to get a harness for her and work more on her obedience. Custom ones run in the $60ish range. In the workshop i attended, first you have to get them used to the noise of pulling something (like a sled or even a coupl milk jugs or piece of wood) then to a trainer cart than to a larger weight cart. It is a process and some dogs don't like it. I did have her pulling a plastic sled which would work for your firewood issue.

I've been doing a lot of reading on the internet about it. Your training pretty much follows the training I read about on the ONE site I could find that discussed it. Thanks for the confirmation. :goodvibes

Taiko's dog pack (why on earth should I carry lunch and water during our day hikes?) comes with a harness (like used in search and rescue) that the pack attaches to. Pretty cool design. (http://www.ruffwear.com/Palisades-Pack-trade-II?sc=2&category=13 ) And it has it's own hydration system, so it's easy to carry water.

I looked at the harness, and it should be suitable for the kind of carting we'll be doing. He's not doing weight pulling after all. I just need to attach a couple of D-rings for the traces, and add loops via a couple of quick release buckles for the shafts. But I'll have to buy a single trace for him from a sledding company.

I'm planning on modifying our garden cart - it's light weight, and can take loads up to 800 pounds - which is way more than 25 gallons of water will weigh. The hardest part will be to design shafts to replace the handle.

What's life without these little engineering challenges? :rotfl:

One wonders how they're going to survive when we finally kick them out of the house.

Well, we finally did it. We ordered a new laptop. Our old one is a 2001 model, and while a nice work horse, it's starting to get persnikity.

I get the employee purchase plan discount at a number of manufacturers, and HP put one of the models we've been looking at on sale for 25% off. That clinched it.

Here are the specs - in case anyone is interested:
HP Pavilion dv6700t Special Edition CTO

Interesting part of an article about PZ in PV:

Likewise, there was no shortage of things to do while ashore at the ports of Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, which is where Gina, 54, and I booked our zip-line excursion.

After checking in at the dockside office of Vallarta Adventures and taking a great hour-long ride through the Mexican countryside in the back of a canvas-covered truck, we arrived with 11 others at the zip-line site. The company prefers to call it a canopy tour.

Within minutes, we were slipped into body harnesses, handed thick gloves and given zip-line instructions. What's to know? Keep your feet up on takeoffs and landings, and use the glove with the extra thick leather pad to hit the brakes on the overhead steel cable that serves as your conduit from one tree platform to the next.

Fun? Is it ever! We'd do it again in a heartbeat. Strenuous? Nope, unless you count the hike back to the truck, an uphill trek that took about 20 minutes but included a stop in the middle for a cold bottle of water and short rest for weary, old legs. Then it was back to town.

As of now, I'll be going naked.

Am seriously considering begging Jay to let me have a dress made......

I ordered several dresses online, and the one dress that I really held out the most hope for, got lost at the main post office in Phoenix. Grrrrrrrr.....and they want to raise the price of postage again for their fine service!!!

make sure you post the pictures if you go naked
