I'm really pleased the US election is over - ours has been a bit on the back foot with your one being around the same time. We are small fish in a big sea and what happens to the US can affect our economy in a large way.
Our healthcare system is always a major dividing line for the political parties. The system is heavily subsidised and in some cases free depending on your income but you might have to wait if you need surgery - you can go of course go privately but that costs extra - probably a bit like Medicare?
We have had the same party in for 3(?) terms now - the equivalent of Liberals - and I suspect it may go back the other way which IMO is always harder on the poorer people. I like our current PM - she is a decent hard working woman and dare I say she gets a much harder time than a man would in the same position - constantly complaining about her appearance and what she wears - as if it matters?
It'll be interesting to see how it goes on Saturday and I think eyes will be on the US economy now too and watching to see if & how that affects us.
As you probably realize healthcare is normally huge issue here too. The democratic party wants a government run "free" healthcare system that we'd all pay higher taxes to get anyway. And really (don't get my sister started on this issue - she has done admissions for hospitals for years) we already have a free healthcare system. Anyone can walk into a hospital and be treated weather or not they can pay for it. And there are insurance programs for the poor to get free healthcare. But for someone like my sister who has returned to school to better herself and do better financially in the long run, she cannot get any help or insurance for her daughter because she makes too little in her now part-time job. Where's the logic there?
I asked my sister about Medicare since I'm not all that familiar with it really... Medicaid is the "free" or "almost free" insurance program for the poor. Medicare is available because of age (old) or disability but still has deductibles. The only thing that determines scheduling is the physician and hospital schedules no matter if you have private insurance, medicaid, medicare, are self paying or no insurance at all.
Yeah there's something about a woman in a high place... Don't know how much you got there about Palen and her wardrobe and her glasses and her hair.... And women that weren't going to vote McCain because they just didn't like Palen. When asked why you get "I just don't". Nevermind the actual issues!
