8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

I wish I had the patience to home school:rolleyes:
I can barely handle the homework:rolleyes1

I will be honest...if it wasn't for the fact that I only have one and she didn't start homeschooling until 5th grade..I couldn't handle it either! She is semi-imdependant in a lot of ways so that helps.

I was only going to do it for last year (her private school had serious issues..principal smoking around students...principal arrested after a car accident and charge with DUI...DD teacher-2-be deciding that certain subject were going to be "self-taught") so she was on a wait list for another private school but never got in to the school..still on the wait list. I decided to home school her another year..she is doing really well...we almost have to learn together on some of the stuff tho..I don't remember all of it!

Pirates and Wenches:

Welcome back and it is good to hear you all had a great cruise. Chatty Cheryl told me all about the good and the bad and it sounds like the good far outweighed the bad.

Another birdie told me that the piratezone had disappeared, which was news to me, but then I hadn't gone out there in a while. So I looked into it. One of my credit cards was 'compromised' in August and since it was one I had not used in over a year, I just cancelled it. Turns out, that was the one the piratezone had been registered with and when the registration expired on September 1, the provider closed the account.

Anyway, since I think most of what it was being used for was chat, if you want to chat, you can use the same interface over my website at the following URL.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks so much JR. Yes, Chat is what we were missing most.

Sorry I haven't posted, I came down with a cold the day we got off the ship, then as it was clearing up last week, I suddenly lost the hearing in my right ear. Finally cleared up today, but it's been annyoing enough that I didn't feel like doing too much. Also had to deal with submitting 4 insurance claims for our escape out of Aruba. Three for trip interruption and one for medical expenses. Plus, I've been signing my life to DVC. We started the process quickly before we got off the ship in Aruba, so we had a lot to go over with our guide once our paperwork arrived after the ship got home.

Yes, mom's doing ok, thanks for asking. We flew from Aruba to Charlotte to Boston and got in around 1am. Spent the night at my brother's in Lowell then drove straight to mom's doctor in Maine the next morning. A quick exam by her PCP to confirm what the doctors suspected on the ship, straight to the hospital for treatment, then finally home around 6 hours later. Mom's doing fine now and has a follow up visit/test next Wednesday to make sure everything's progressing as expected.

Yup, I'm the chicken lady. My best friend and I had these in high school, though I'm not sure why. We just loved them and when I saw them, I thought, why not. Rubber chickens are just plain funny and I like to make people laugh. Glad you all liked them. I witnessed the real dead chickens in Acapulco and thought it was hilarious!!

Cheers!

Jennifer

Jennifer glad Mom is doing better & thanks for the chicken! :goodvibes

I got in trouble with the man with the sloth...earlier in the day we saw a different one and he wanted $1 for a picture..DD did not want a picture...so later we saw another man with a sloth and she said she wanted a picture by him by did not want to hold the sloth...so I said no problem..we told the gentleman what we wanted and took the picture..I tried to give him $2 for being so nice about holding onto the sloth near Tori..he got angry and said it was $5! :scared1: I felt bad but seriously only had $3 on me..we didn't take much in with us and only bought a couple of things..he tossed my money back at me and said $5 again..I told him I only had $3 and tried to give it to him...I thought he was going to throw the sloth at me :confused3 He finally took the $3 and I felt bad and it was my fault not to check first but I really thought it was only $1 or $2 as everyone else that day had been only a couple of dollars.....so...no more pictures for us! I practically ran to the bus.

The guy with the sloth at La Popa popped it right into DD's arms and told me to take a picture. I was about to when DH explained we would have to pay him the picture:rolleyes:
I was so surprised, it was our first stop and I wasn't prepared for the intensity of the selling (yes I feel foolish now).
In retrospect I wish I had paid for a pic, but I think DH was pushing for us to leave and I was a bit flustered.

Charging for a picture like that is very common in a lot of countries. If you see a guy with a donkey, iguana, monkeys...or in this case, the fruit lady....then you know they're going to want you to pay to take their picture. That's why I have so many pictures of the donkey, monkey, iguana, fruit people's BACKS.
I just wait til they turn around! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Like these???

J.R. sorry to hear about your cc. It is a pain to go through. Thanks again for the website--it was great. Hopefully we will get a chance to meet in the future.:goodvibes

Well first day of "work" went good. Much quieter than my previous job and only 7hrs. Better than nothing for the next 2 weeks.

I rode my "steel horse" in. (ok maybe my scooter is more like a steel little mexican horse but no TICKS)

K, glad to hear your day went well. Hopefully you find something permanent soon. :goodvibes

From what I've heard, kids do better academically when they are homeschooled:confused3
It takes a lot of work, the right financial circumstances and a special kind of parent to do it though;)
My Mom was a teacher and used to take us out of school every year for a month so we could travel with my Dad. We always came back ahead of the rest of the class.

Hi K. Glad work went well.
2 questions -
1) Is that a 1/2 eaten corndog in your avatar?
B) Why?

Don't forget the man with the Sloth!!

How could I?
No groundhogs on this trip, but as it turns out, Sloths Tell No Tales.

Same thing happened to my son at LaPopa - DH told DS not to stop and keep walking. He did but all of a sudden he had the sloth on him. I have a great pic of it - his face says it all. Since it was on him I went ahead and took a "better" one since he was still upset. Dh was very frustrated with this - but he got over it. We had alrady paid to get a pic with a parrot in PV.

Yes DD was one of the tallest younger ST's on-board. (Well maybe Doreen's son was the same height or a little taller.)

I hadn't had time to see if that was her (as she ran off to bed before i remembered to ask.) It seems 5am comes pretty early around here. (That's when DD has to get up as her bus comes at just after 6:30) Heck I'm not even up that early.

I forgot to ask, how old is Devon?

Thanks for taking the time to update us. Glad to hear that your mom is doing well and that you are feeling better too. Take it easy! :grouphug:

My DH was so stressed out by the sellers in Cartagena. He and my DD would walk near me to keep me from looking too closely at anybody or anything for sale :rolleyes1
I couldn't help it, I found everything fascinating:confused3
DH prefers no pressure sales:rolleyes:
And he hates to bargain, he wants to be told what the price is and pay it.
I'm lucky I managed to buy anything in Cartagena at all:rolleyes:

Hello fellow Pirates,

I know I didn't post much because, quite frankly, the thread moved way too quickly for me to even try to keep up. I managed to keep abreast of what was going on via the slower Pirates Zone thread and a big hearty thank-you to Tom for organizing that. In fact, I was a little apprehensive about doing this cruise without really "knowing" many of my fellow cruisers. I knew as early as embarkation that my fears were all for naught. I was totally floored by just how welcoming and friendly everybody was. I participated in the FE list expecting that most people who didn't "know" me would just bypass my cabin. Boy, was I wrong! Day after day, my FE was filled with many wonderfully creative and generous gifts. Some of you guys are just too funny......I LOVED the messages on the poker cards and nearly passed out when I saw the chicken! Thank-you so very much for your kindness and generosity, but most of all, for making me feel like I was part of the bunch.

I also loved the costume parade on Pirates night and appreciate just how much time and effort many of you put into creating those wonderful outfits.

Thanks to all for making this trip so very special.

Jeanne

See Tracy told you we were not all that bad. :rotfl2: It was nice to meet you too!:flower3:
