Okay ... Here is a classic night before vacation story. I finished packing tonight, as I am leaving tomorrow afternoon. So I'm weighing my luggage and I'm not really sure how it happened, but I managed to stub my toe. Not just stub, but pulled the toenail partly off. Now I am in pain, and have to cancel my pedicure. Someone feel pity for me ... Pleeeaaaasssee

I just attacked a poor teenage girl at a wedding who I heard discussing the cruise :) Something about her whole family going "The Goodwins" but she wasn't going. I live in on an island so anyone but me discussing the cruise was a rarity!!!

I can remember several trips telling my teenagers (they are now our adult children - 25 & 28) that they just didn't realize how fortunate they are since mostpeople don't take the kind of wonderful trips we do!
One year when our 25dd was 16 she refused to go on one of our 3wk long trips (New Mexico/AZ) and her older brother (who wanted to go but, I told him to get a job for summer break - he was in college and was jsut home for the summer)told her *Katherine, mom and dad were right! Most people don't get these chances! You should go whenever they are paying!* :rotfl2:

YOu know - I only had to say this once or twice to my DD when she picked up on thethe "they're paying -so its free" bit. Now, she totally invites me to go places with her. Only took me about 2 times before I caught on. Now all the kids want to know where we are going on the family vacation. :headache: I created monsters! :sad2:

Hello All,

Let's start FLUFFIN...Back had to go get something to eat wow I was starving.

I hope everyone is doing well. Let's do the "CARPET ANGEL"...Practice...

Your friend,
:dance3:

Oh gosh Ingrid - you didn't tell her about the DIS did you? Now they'll think we

:lmao:

Can you all tell I'm procrastinating on going to Circuit City? They are open late and if I go too early, I'll be distracted and end up with more stuff than I really need so I'm timing things close! :rotfl2:

good evening everyone. again i wanted to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! they meant alot. i made out ok today...but still sore, and very dizzy. what a crappy day.
i'll try to be positive, cuz we leave in 2 days now...but it doesn't take the numbness away.
hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Shannon get some rest & take care of yourself!

:scared: I feel for you - DD did that last night. Hope you feel better. OUCH! :flower3:

I agree about the crunchy stuff, but I do enjoy mustard (spicy or grey poupon) along with the Miracle Whip light, as well as a hard boiled egg in my tuna. I usually don't do the egg due to my diet, but it does add some good flavor. I've had tuna for my lunch at work about 4 days each week for the past 3 months. So please, NO tuna on the TOAL!

:scratchin:

HHMMM.......sensing a theme here - no oatmeal, no tuna - what do you think? Your going on vacation?

Wasn't it amazing how they moved around on the globe?

Wished I could have watched the opening cermonies, but I've been working with my DS10 on his homework that was given to him this past Wednesday when we enrolled him in school for the year. As he's missing 8 1/2 days, they decided to load him up. However, he's had a very positive attitude about it! He even cleaned his room today better than he's ever done, as well as volunteered to help with chores. Are we in the twilight zone!? :confused3

My youngest also has homework, but first grade homework is pretty easy! My oldest doesn't have teachers assigned yet, so he's going to have to work like heck to make it up when we get back! At least it'll keep him occupied.:lmao:

Pity Party! :grouphug:

Sorry to hear that. I've had my toenail removed before -- very painful!

That reminds me of our story from this morning.

My DW and I were riding bikes and going through an area with three 90 degree turns fairly close together. Anyway, she braked too hard on the second corner and went flying over her handlebars. It was horrible to watch as I was behind her. I was expecting her to get up in tears and hurting, but she just got up and laughed...thankful for no broken bones! She did break a nail, got a very nasty bruise on her thigh and scrapes on her arm, but overall she got lucky. On the last cruise, she had rotator cuff surgery two weeks prior to the cruise so we don't need any broken arms, etc.!!!

How's that for pitiful? ;) Seriously that does stink! :guilty:

I don't blame you! I don't live on an island, but my own family won't discuss it with me. If it wasn't for this thread & chat, I would be jumpin' out of my skin!

I do - I was looking around at the information about it but figured I would wait a while before purchasing one hoping for the price to go down some but DH has seen me looking and suprised me with it. I do like it and will love it for travel so that I don't have to lug a bunch of books around. I love the fact that you can download a free sample of the book, usually about 3 chapters long, so you can get a feel if you really will like the story.

Since the book exchange bag will be on my FE outside my door I am still bringing a book or two just to put in there for the exchange. I do miss the 'feel' of the book but as I said for traveling this will be wonderful. The other thing I like about it is not having to find space for all the books I read during the course of year.

I started looking at the books available and will make a decision this weekend on what to download for the cruise. I already purchased the Julie Andrews autobiography for the kindle but haven't started reading it.

Hey I don't have a kindle but my friend bought my a Sony Digital Book in June and yours truly has not opened it yet, I was wondering what to do with it - I should have read the boards, maybe I could have saved you some $$. Now, I'm debating on openig it..... I don't usually have time to read but now with all this talk, maybe I should open it.

Thanks Jo - I read alot & travel alot - so I thought this would solve the weight/space problem. It was an impulse buy. After we get to LA - we'll be at DD's and from there we're bringing lots of books for the exchange - and we're leaving them on board. But now I do feel better about the Kindle.

Laura - I don't know about the Sony - as I said the Kindle was an impulse buy 'cause I NEED to read and I'd rather not add weight w/books.

Oh no! Poor June! I hope she's all healed up for next week!

There was talk of matching t-shirts and multiple cruises..I think these people know about the dis :)

HAIR UPDATE

Thanks for all the green hair advice. DW went with the swimmers shampoo mixed with baking soda and the results were great. The girls are blond once again. Jack:cool1:

It was exciting to see Aruba march into the stadium tonight and then we all said - "We are going there."

Us too! And I was thinking how cool (though unlikely) it would be if someone won a medal and was coming home when we got there!:upsidedow

Ahh, all of you keep talking Miracle Whip!! Todd, where is that nasty smiley when I need him? Hellmans is it!:cool1:

Ouch!! Can't you at least have a half-pedi?:goodvibes

I don't know how I will weigh our luggage as we don't have a scale. DH usually just picks it us and guesstimates.:rotfl2:

I do feel for you. Last year a few weeks before my cruise I was chasing DS up a big inflatable obstacle course. Somehow stepped wrong and ripped my toenail off. After it healed I had maybe 1/4 inch of toenail. Painted it anyway. LOL.

And just last month I saw someone getting a pedi with just a teeny tiny toenail. She had them put a tip on it, so when it was all done, she had a full nail.
