My family decided that the white light Olympic rings in the opening ceremony looked like 2 hidden Mickeys. We really are ready for a vacation!

:rotfl: :rotfl:

10ds& I are really enjoying the countries coming into the stadium - I'm using my laptop so that I can Dis & watch the Olympics.

All of us were awe struck with what the Chinseswere able to do with the Opening Ceremonies........ We weren't happy that NBC kept going to comercial when the fireworks came on! :headache:

Hi Gang,

Any of our Pirates have a Kindle? Part of the "fluff" last night was discussion of my successful eBay auction when I won a Kindle. I so love to read and thought it would make life (and weight) easier if I put all the books I want to read on this device. I only know of 2 people who have one - and they're happy w/it.

I do - I was looking around at the information about it but figured I would wait a while before purchasing one hoping for the price to go down some but DH has seen me looking and suprised me with it. I do like it and will love it for travel so that I don't have to lug a bunch of books around. I love the fact that you can download a free sample of the book, usually about 3 chapters long, so you can get a feel if you really will like the story.

Since the book exchange bag will be on my FE outside my door I am still bringing a book or two just to put in there for the exchange. I do miss the 'feel' of the book but as I said for traveling this will be wonderful. The other thing I like about it is not having to find space for all the books I read during the course of year.

I started looking at the books available and will make a decision this weekend on what to download for the cruise. I already purchased the Julie Andrews autobiography for the kindle but haven't started reading it.

Um. Are we chatting tonight? If so where? I can't seem to get pirate chat to go.

.

Can someone enlighten me as to why I am taking 3 ungrateful children on a TOAL?

I know exactly what you mean but I have come to the conclusion that my kids are as ready to be on vacation as DH and I are and it is causing them to be snippie with each other, more then usual. Usually we take a few weekend trips here and there but we haven't been away since November and everyone is soooooo ready for the TOAL to begin. I didn't even have to ask a gazillion times for DD13 to start thinking about what to bring, she got some of her clothes together ready to be packed all on her own without me even having to ask once :yay: Now keeping her room neat and clean is a different story :sad2: We try and leave the house organized and clean so when we come home it is one less thing we have to deal with

DD keeps telling me that she wishes she was on the cruise NOW. She has said that every day this week.

Yep - the first thing out of the kids mouths every morning since August 1st has been x amount of days until the cruise.

Hey, y'all. Just a quick fly-by post from the Indianapolis airport wanting to wish all of you a happy and safe TOAL before you all start to leave for LA. I wish I was going to be there with you but c'est la vie. Have a great time!

J. R.

Thanks J. R.! Wish you were still joining us too! :guilty:

Hey, I did this today too!!!! I feel much better. Why does it have to cost so darn much?!?!?!?:confused3

I'm getting my hair done Monday & nails & pedi for me & DD on Wednesday. I never get a pedi but wth? ;)

Put me in the group of NO HUGGERS.............my DD tests just came back and she has Mono.:sad2: I am hoping I don't come down with it. Her friend had it and oh spend the night didn't tell her for awhile. Ughhh

Anyone heard about Hernan tropical depression? It's 715 miles SW of Cabo. They expect it to turn into a hurricane. Nothing off of Africa but they had to mention all the thunderstorms inland that they need to keep an eye out for.

Just call me Downer Debbie.:rolleyes1

Oh sorry to hear about DD! Make note...No hugs from Tina! ;) :goodvibes

And yes Mr. Sunshine likes to link us to hurrican tracking maps while in chat!

Oh, did I mention the fact that DH and the girls (human) decided it would be safer for them to go and spend a few days in CO with the in-laws. I am starting to get into my packing and cleaning mode and so they came up with this great idea of spending time with "grandpa." :scratchin - how much this has to do with my neighbor dying? I was very proud of the fact that Megan and I went to both the wake, viewing and funeral together. It was rather nice to see the gratitude on their faces just for simply showing up.

Made me reminsce on the fact that us humans do not do much visiting time together and unfortunately have to discover this fact only upon a wake, so my endoeavor this cruise? To party up and have a good time with my friends, new and old! So you all are invited to spend time with me making memories!!!! The more the merrier and by the way, it won't hurt to learn the Cupid Shuffle! :rotfl:

:wave2:

I'll drink to that Laura! :drinking1

June will be excited too!

This reminds me, we all know that we'll be eating foods that we would otherwise not eat (Mickey Rice Krispy Treats dipped in Chocolate! etc.)

However, what food are you sick of that you refuse to eat on the TOAL? My list includes:

1. Oatmeal
2. Salmon
3. Oatmeal
4. Canned Tuna
5. Oatmeal
6. Low Fat Cottage Cheese,
7. Oatmeal
8. Raw Carrots and Celery! AND
9. Oatmeal

Low carb pita bread! Blech!

I'm so very sorry to hear of this Shannon....

... and I guess it's OK to say I've just shared a reflective moment with my spouse while appraising her of my visit with our friends - who have the spouse with the renal cancer. The mom was active and seemed mostly as usual - aside from her mentioning she had another round of the gamma knife to deal with growths in her head. Which I already knew about - and understood to be pretty bad since this continued to show she was not getting any control from any of the medications or procedures exercised. Even at $8000 a month for one of her medications - it seemed as if there was NO control with her cancer.

Well... I sort of thought her attitude was pretty good... but what brought about the moment of reflection shared with Alicia was our friends husband. He was uncharactisticlly near silent during my visit - and sort of distant. We both knew what seems to be going on - well - it's just bad.

At any rate - this has had me somber - plus our daughters' best friend from pre-school - well we had a play date scheduled the other day - and they missed it. No explanation until yesterday when an email came apolagizing. It seems thier young neighbor (the husband) abruptly passed away. He had a previously unknown risk of some sort and he had an anurism (misspelled?) - he litterially just collapsed and was gone.

The email was long - and sensitive from our friends - and it just compounds the reality that our existances are remarkably fragile and precious.

I hope this does not sour your situation... as I have not taken the usual moment of reflection to measure if what I've said is diplomatic or not. It's just what I'm thinking at this hour given your remarks shared.

Again, may I offer our kindest symapthetic consideration in this sad moment for your family.

Respectfully,

Tom & family

......

...and what am I doing up - I couldn't sleep because I guess I was a bit hungry so I heated a little left over chicken curry and rice ... while I watch the discovery HD channel ... a show about the100 greatest discoveries in chemistry.

My thoughts go out to you too Crash!

:lmao: :thumbsup2

Hope he's feeling better real quick.

I've been thinking that so often recently. If someone had told me a year ago that my Mom was going to pass away in a little over 2 months, I never would of believed them. She had pneumonia last August, wasn't getting better, dx'd with lung cancer beginning of October and then passed away 3 weeks later on Oct 27.

:guilty:

I have not been online for a little more than the past week. I had a major HR mess on my hands at work and caused major havoc. So major the TOAL couldve been in jeopardy.

But alas, after much work (including having to come in at 4:30am for the closing of the books), we seemed to have resolved nearly all of the issues that couldve wrecked my plans.

So while I still have 3 more longs days of work before the TOAL... it will pale in comparison to the past week.

Cant wait for the vacation to start - cause I need it bad.

Sorry I missed the NYC meet - it was in the middle of the mess.

Have I missed anything BIG this past week?

Will likely be on chat tonight to catch up.

Later!

Sil so glad it worked out & the TOAL is no longer in jeapordy!

It was exciting to see Aruba march into the stadium tonight and then we all said - "We are going there."

good evening everyone. again i wanted to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers! they meant alot. i made out ok today...but still sore, and very dizzy. what a crappy day.
i'll try to be positive, cuz we leave in 2 days now...but it doesn't take the numbness away.
hope you all enjoy your weekend!

Wasn't it amazing how they moved around on the globe?

So that they can be ungrateful with my 2? ;)

Add my 3 STs to the bunch! They have done nothing but make fun of me for all the things I am doing to get ready for this trip. I am frustrated to the point of tears at times! And to think of all the money I could be saving... I should have just done this with my sister!

If you want to play.......you got to pay! :lmao: :rotfl2:
To be one of the last standing in Rocking Bar D! Cheryl you with me on this one? :woohoo: :woohoo:

John and Steve will be off in the corner sound asleep.:cloud9: :cloud9:

Try to rest as much as you can between now and then. And don't be afraid to cry when you need to!

It was exciting to see Aruba march into the stadium tonight and then we all said - "We are going there."

We did the same thing!

I nearly cried when they told the little Chinese Boys' story!! I told dh that it is always so cute how serious young children take their responsibilities! If only some adults would do the same!

Yes!!! I told the kids that I thought that some of the dancers on the lower half had to be dizzy!

Add my 3 STs to the bunch! They have done nothing but make fun of me for all the things I am doing to get ready for this trip. I am frustrated to the point of tears at times! And to think of all the money I could be saving... I should have just done this with my sister!

I can remember several trips telling my teenagers (they are now our adult children - 25 & 28) that they just didn't realize how fortunate they are since mostpeople don't take the kind of wonderful trips we do!
One year when our 25dd was 16 she refused to go on one of our 3wk long trips (New Mexico/AZ) and her older brother (who wanted to go but, I told him to get a job for summer break - he was in college and was jsut home for the summer)told her *Katherine, mom and dad were right! Most people don't get these chances! You should go whenever they are paying!* :rotfl2:

Me too! I eat it with Miracle Whip. I hate when people put stuff like onions and celery in it blech!

I agree about the crunchy stuff, but I do enjoy mustard (spicy or grey poupon) along with the Miracle Whip light, as well as a hard boiled egg in my tuna. I usually don't do the egg due to my diet, but it does add some good flavor. I've had tuna for my lunch at work about 4 days each week for the past 3 months. So please, NO tuna on the TOAL!

Man - my mind is mush - as I was ketching-up I made a mental note to resond to a post - have no clue now what it was. Okay - I obviously don't do well w/late nights. Ahhh - I will neve come close to keeping up w/Cheryl!!

DH is grouchy - having problems getting DD Lori & my costume finished.

Next week at this time we will be at DD's home in L.A. - and repacking for the TOAL. I am sooooooooo Ready!! Oh - not ready as in list all checked off and all - but ready as in I want to be on the Magic NOW!!

Hey I don't have a kindle but my friend bought my a Sony Digital Book in June and yours truly has not opened it yet, I was wondering what to do with it - I should have read the boards, maybe I could have saved you some $$. Now, I'm debating on openig it..... I don't usually have time to read but now with all this talk, maybe I should open it.
