Help help help!! Haven't been as active on these boards as I wanted...had a lot of very stressful time consuming things happen last few months. Well, now it all takes the cake.
1) DD9 starts limping really badly. Took her to docs, have xray done. She has a bone deformity called a coalition - a painful bone deformation. surgery is the cure. DH had his heart mitral valve repaired two years ago - we only had my mom and I as caregivers. Full open heart surgery. It was easily a full year recovery - full year of me bring in charge of all...Of course her surgery won't be so scary, but, hey, its my kid and I know I will further age 20 years in one year. At best, she can walk a lot, at worse, since we will delay surgery, she wil be in portable splint, or wheel chair. She is a completely active child, so it will behard for her!! Luckily, its not too painful if she stays off of it.
2) DS12 comes back from Scout Camp. Had a blast. Gotten bitten by a deer tick. Incubation time for Lyme disease symptoms beginning are now until a week after we board the ship. I am thinking of taking him to our doc and getting the meds now, and if he begins to get ill, have the doc on board monitor him. He could give me the go ahead to give the drug, couldn't he?
Any of you brilliant wonderful people personal experts on Lyme disease? What I have read, it looks like we are totally hosed. I THINK, tho, they got the tick off fast. Area where they were camping is one of the highest in the US for lyme disease...![]()

OK, that means nothing to you...DS9 has a good buddy from Alaska who was born with a heart defect. Great kid, great family. DS's entire K class and most of the school did the local Heart Walk and the school still does it every year for Shawn. Towards the end of 1st grade, Shawn was accepted into the heart transplant program at Stanford. We did fundraisers, we've send cards, we've prayed. FOR TWO AND A HALF YEARS of his 9 years, Shawn and his mom have been LIVING at the Ronald McDonald House in CA waiting for a heart (while his dad & 2 sisters stayed in Alaska). Two and a half years!!
Of course, we all know that a family had to go through the unthinkable in order for this to happen. Shawn's donor was 7 years old.
I read the article to DS this morning. He looked and DH and me & went to get us tissues.
Now, I'm crying too. What a great story.
When are you moving home, & do you take house guests? Those pictures are fabulous.
Did she like it? I'm afraid to start it as I really don't have the time to read it right now![]()
Plus I'm afraid I won't like the ending![]()

OMG, how awesome for Shawn and his family. DH's cousin got a lung transplant after waiting for years and she is doing fine now. Really amazing how science can take a tragedy and use it to save someone else's life. They are working on making new organs with a person's own cells, but not there yet.
No, no. Alaska is horrible and ugly...every one stay away. It's dark, hotels are made of igloos. Bears live in neighborhoods. Keep out.
Can I go home now??
Top one was taken from my driveway, bottom one from my front porch.![]()

Ohhh, so jealousMorning, everyone -- happy friendship day and 2 weeks until the cruise!
We are having a NYC pirate meet today -- I will try to post photos later today or tomorrow.
DH, DS (12) and I will be joining you on the cruise. Just canceled our excursion to Sea Life Park in Puerto Vallarta resulting in changes to plans in Cabo and Acapulco as well.

For prevention of Lyme disease after a recognized tick bite, routine use of antimicrobial prophylaxis or serologic testing is not recommended (E-III). A single dose of doxycycline may be offered to adult patients (200 mg dose) and to children 8 years of age (4 mg/kg up to a maximum dose of 200 mg) (B-I) when all of the following circumstances exist: (a) the attached tick can be reliably identified as an adult or nymphal I. scapularis tick that is estimated to have been attached for 36 h on the basis of the degree of engorgement of the tick with blood or of certainty about the time of exposure to the tick; (b) prophylaxis can be started within 72 h of the time that the tick was removed; (c) ecologic information indicates that the local rate of infection of these ticks with B. burgdorferi is 20%; and (d) doxycycline treatment is not contraindicated. The time limit of 72 h is suggested because of the absence of data on the efficacy of chemoprophylaxis for tick bites following tick removal after longer time intervals. Infection of 20% of ticks with B. burgdorferi generally occurs in parts of New England, in parts of the mid-Atlantic States, and in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, but not in most other locations in the United States. Whether use of antibiotic prophylaxis after a tick bite will reduce the incidence of HGA or babesiosis is unknown.

Nothing planned for Acapulco yet although we are probably going to walk to the fort and outdoor markets.
I don't think we need to be overly OCP'ers. The bus company has the list of hotels & the number of passengers for each hotel - everyone has been sent a pm about the buses arriving at 8:30am. The buses will go to each hotel. Everyone is an experienced traveler/adult. When one books a shuttle for pick-up at a hotel - one just is outside w/luggage awaiting the shuttle (or in this case the Coach Skyline bus) to arrive.
I honestly believe that everyone can take responsibility to be outside the hotel w/luggage and get on the bus.
BTW - I spoke at length w/the bus company rep today - and there are 4 buses - there is no "1st stop" per se.
Please just relax - be ready to be picked up at 8:30 - and when you see the beautiful Coach Skyline bus pull up - you'll be ready to be transported to the Port and the TOAL!!!!!!!
