Our Story:
Yesterday we went a local Lenscrafters store looking for some new sunglasses. Found a pair that I really liked but the wrong color. So they found the color that I liked in Northridge. Today we take off to Northridge (you might remember this as the site of the big quake in 1994 that killed a bunch of people). So we are standing in the Northridge Lenscrafters store when we started to feel the floor moving under our feet. It was a weird sensation and realized that we were having an earthquake. This one was different than most in that it rolled for maybe 10 seconds and almost stopped and then got a lot stronger. All of a sudden we realized 1) we are in Northridge where they still get a lot of quakes since 1994 and 2) the store we are in is covered in mirrors. Everyone makes a quick but calm exit out to the parking lot. We notice that all of the street lights are swaying back and forth as well as the cars. We look across the street and there are people everywhere coming out of buildings. We could tell from the shaking that this one was at least a 5 (after living through so many you get good at guessing the magnitude) but it was a roller, my favorite kind, versus a jerky one like the Northridge one of 1994, my least favorite kind. Anyway we found out that it was in Chino Hills 40-50 miles SE of us. So we went and had lunch at the Northridge Mall and parked in the structure that collapsed in 1994. You never know maybe we can have a little 3 or 4 while you all are here just so you can say you have lived through one.
LOL! No thank you though. Have been through a 5.2 here in NY - and that was more than enough for me - for a lifetime! Definitely one vacation experience I can do without!

glad that every one is reporting in that things are OK!
