Our Story:
Yesterday we went a local Lenscrafters store looking for some new sunglasses. Found a pair that I really liked but the wrong color. So they found the color that I liked in Northridge. Today we take off to Northridge (you might remember this as the site of the big quake in 1994 that killed a bunch of people). So we are standing in the Northridge Lenscrafters store when we started to feel the floor moving under our feet. It was a weird sensation and realized that we were having an earthquake. This one was different than most in that it rolled for maybe 10 seconds and almost stopped and then got a lot stronger. All of a sudden we realized 1) we are in Northridge where they still get a lot of quakes since 1994 and 2) the store we are in is covered in mirrors. Everyone makes a quick but calm exit out to the parking lot. We notice that all of the street lights are swaying back and forth as well as the cars. We look across the street and there are people everywhere coming out of buildings. We could tell from the shaking that this one was at least a 5 (after living through so many you get good at guessing the magnitude) but it was a roller, my favorite kind, versus a jerky one like the Northridge one of 1994, my least favorite kind. Anyway we found out that it was in Chino Hills 40-50 miles SE of us. So we went and had lunch at the Northridge Mall and parked in the structure that collapsed in 1994. You never know maybe we can have a little 3 or 4 while you all are here just so you can say you have lived through one.

LOL! No thank you though. Have been through a 5.2 here in NY - and that was more than enough for me - for a lifetime! Definitely one vacation experience I can do without! :)

glad that every one is reporting in that things are OK!:)

:wizard:

We turned it off and went on our way..my concern is always that our house was built in 1950 and so doesnt have the same construction as the new ones...

The Whittier Narrows Fault also runs right through our house so we always keep that in mind..it was obvious when I left the house that we did have some damage..our driveway has severe cracks and lifted and our back patio has an area that lifted but over all..its ok.

For me it wasn't as big a deal as for my DD..this was the biggest one she has gone thru and so was worried as kids do...but life has gone on and she went thru something worse after the earthquake..we picked up her books to start school Monday :lmao:

Desiree . . .I'm glad you are alright. Hope the damage is minimal. When you purchased your house, did you know it was on a fault line? I guess there are a lot of them in CA . . . that would be an interesting sign off on your house closing papers . . .

Hugs:hug: :grouphug: to all our California friends. Hope everything has quieted down now!!!:goodvibes Hope no one was hurt or any property destroyed.:flower3:

Something was hurt Cheryl..the phone was out! :scared1:

Decreasing magnitude indicates aftershocks and not foreshock

That's what I told DD..of course..we just got home and she was over it.

I was reading the Disneyland boards and the Disneyland hotel was evacuated, they had some concerns. GCH is fine as recently built, but they are checking out the DLH, hope its ok for me in a few weeks.

:)
It should be fine..Where we live there are some buildings over 100 years old..when I went to get DD books..they had everyone evacuated looking atthe buildings.

I just saw it on CNN. Please tell me that everyone is alright!! :scared:

Everyone is fine..no major damage or injuries...everyone has already gone on their way.

I think so -- It's H2O and smells like the cruise to me! It's fun to break it out later at home and the smell really brings the cruise experience back . . .

I love that stuff..i ordered full size shampoo & Conditioner for our cruise..it came the other day.

Glad you are OK, since you were the first person that I thought of when we learned the location.

Yes, there are a couple of us right near there but everything is fine down here. As you stated...it was a rolling one and rumbled which is better then the really shaking ones...

DH grandparents bought the house brand new back then...DD's room is the same room her Grandma grew up in (Kind of neat in a way) so when Grandparents passed...DH bought the house. I am not sure if he paid attention it was on the fault line or not (sorry..but you know..men).

So yes, I am aware of it but since we dont get to many quakes..we dont worry... since we have movment most of the time..you will see a new crack appear or something but thats true of a lot of the older houses in the area.

I had to laugh..we got home and DD turned on the TV and says "They're still talking about it...it was hours ago!" LOL...she is already over it.

Was reading on MSN:

Jeff Ranieri, a meteorologist with NBC Weather Plus, said the quake occurred along the Whittier and Chino fault lines, not the highly unstable San Andreas Fault.

Wait... do you mean there are houses in California that aren't on a fault line? I want one!!!!

I've had the 20 month old at home post c-section twice now - not fun! That time the older kids were 5 and 7. They stayed with my parents and the baby and I spent aaaallllll day in the hospital every day.

It's kind of a long story, but his surgery needed to happen asap and the baby was due. I went for an amnio to see how early they could deliver the baby and my surgery was moved up a week to that I would have time to recover before it was his turn.

Two weeks to the day of my c-section I drove him to the hospital with baby in tow. He was preped for surgery and the Dr. examined him and determined that he was so infected he would need to be admitted and the surgery would have to wait. So we spent a week in the hospital (I was back and forth), home for a week and back to the hospital for the surgery.

The scariest part was knowing his colon might perferate and not be able to be saved (which is not as scary as if he had somthing life-threatening). Diverticulitis - don't mess with it!

When times are tough, I look back on those days and say "I can do anything!"

My DD's intestines perforated when she was a month old and less than 2 pounds. She had a colonoscopy bag for a while. What was so scary was the "Preemie Pouch" made just for preemies that needed ostomy bags, was way too big. It was like the whole world did not recognize a baby born at 1 pound should even be here.
I watched Steel Magnolias last night and love the saying "That which does not kill us, makes us stronger". :)

Is the soap and shampoo good enough to worry about getting it back from the cruise???

I LOVE it!!!! With 3 of us girls in the room with long hair I am not sure how we will even have enough for every day much less bring any home. :scared:

 :cool1: now that its getting closer i am reading the boards LOL  :cool1: :woohoo:

I am impressed. You registered 2 years ago and just now made your 1st post? I would have lost my password WWAAAYYY before now.:lmao:

Arlene I just watched the video, is that the same thing that Rich is wearing?
Yes.

OMG!!! Got back from lunch and my co worker told me about the quake. Glad to see up to pg 206 everyone is ok. Scary stuff......

Hope you guys don't get too many after shocks. I was amused the computers are still on.

We're on the Aruba one. I'm sure my DD8 would be happy to hang

Celestine

Your story doesn't make me feel any more comfortable. :lmao: Having lived most of my life in the midwest, earthquakes are something I don't care to experience again (experienced a very minor one while in Japan -- felt like someone was kicking the back of my chair).

I've lived around tornados my whole life, but have never seen one. Plus, you can usually track them on 'live doppler radar' and know exactly where they are. Although I take them seriously, tornado warnings generally don't scare me which sounds like how most of you in California react to "minor" earthquakes.

I did my last cruise just before H2O products were used. I am still bringing my own just incase I don't like them.:headache:

Our last cruise was the final cruise before they introduced the H20 products. However, we have been to WDW since then and used the H20 product at both Deluxe and value resorts. I assume they are the same thing as what's on DCL. Is that correct?

Dising in traffic. I've gone 4 blocks in 35 minutes. I'll take a non-damaging earthquake any day.
Commute took forever today. I was stuck on a ramp going onto 495 for 30 minutes and was late picking up DS from camp. Plus , I forgot to charge my cell phone so couldn't Dis:guilty:
I start training next week to learn the software for working at home:woohoo:
I will so not miss the commute:rolleyes:

I have asked this before...but am still having difficulty. I have been trying to get some help making door magnets. Some of you were kind enough to put some links to check out. I have found some that I like, but have had no luck getting much response from people to help make them. Have any of you had good luck with any of the designers? I would love some help in this area.

Thanks,
Carol
I'm pretty much in the same boat as I rely on my DS14 to help put the words on the images.
I printed them on photo paper and then took them to Kinkos to laminate. Then put magnetic tape (bought at Walmart) on the back.

Now I'm worried for me as DS just said he doesn't remember how he did it last time:confused:
But he did say powerpoint should work too:)

 :cool1: now that its getting closer i am reading the boards LOL  :cool1: :woohoo:

I think it was Monica and Crash talking about woot one day that got me interested. Woot-off's are dangerous!

If you have the background..I can help some..I am not able to do anything super fancy but can try to make something to your liking..send me a PM with the picture and what you want on it and I will do my best.

I think so and it's a great reminder of toal. The products they use are H20 spa. You can google to get more info. The lotion is fantastic !!! I have a disney bathroom and I like to put some in the guest bedroom for company to use. I just can't imagine how heavy 15 days worth will be.:rotfl2:

You sound like my DH - he loves the H20 body butter -we must still have 10 tubes left from our last cruise- our room steward was great and brought us tons of it. I dont care for the smell of the shampoo so I will be packing my biolage shampoo.

It is addicting. Best thing I got was my 30g zune for 79.00.LOve the darn thing. Has all my pics, music, movies videos and disney podcasts.
Good thing is they haven't posted anything I am interested in today so far. Still have never gotten the BOC :lmao:
