Oh, I wouldn't worry. I understand they have loads of slightly moldy and asbestos laden trailers left over from Katrina.... :rolleyes1

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHERYL

And this is the best I could come up with in a hurry. Your very own Telephone Cake

ChocolateMobilePhoneCake-L.jpg

The first cake is soooo cute & 2nd cake fits her to a tee. We all  you Cheryl.

I did the same thing but they way I looked at it..I wanted to enjoy the trip..not worry about the reaction when I got back...I am so relaxed now and can focus on the cruise and everything else in my life rather than a job that was making me miserable! Good for you! I think all of us should get together and toast our STRENGTH!

Chrissie

Only one toast?:confused3 I can think of reasons for 2 or 3.:rotfl2: :lmao:

I am in NC but the cost of the policy depends on the replacement cost of the house. We are paying a little over 3000 for our new home. We don't need flood insurance even though we are on the river. We are right near the mouth of the river and I would guess that the houses sit about 20 feet above the water level.

Lisa we are 6 miles from beach and were not required to get flood. The fact is it was difficult to find somebody to carry the policy. This is a brand new home and community. We aren't willing to take the chance because you just never know. Everyone says Myrtle Beach is due for one..........I am not taking any chances.

OK...for those of you still trying to get doorsigns made...I use MS Picture it Perfect and am able to put words on pictures pretty easily. They can be straight or shaped lines of words. If you email a clear version of the picture that you want to use and exactly what you want it to say I will do my best to put it together and email it back to you. Tell me what color you would like the words to be, on top of the picture or in a border around it and the font. I have the typical Walt Disney and two versions of the Disney Print. Also lots of ohters. mandlgraves@ec.rr.com

Most of us are uninsured. Why? Because earthquake insurance is crazy expensive (an earthquake policy can cost as much or more than your regular policy), and even if you get it, the coverage is minimal (and has a huge deductable).

The policies aren't even offered by insurance companies - they just act as agents for a state run risk pool.

Congrats Shannon!!!

We don't have it either. Most of the information that I have read indicates that if the quake is really big and causes a lot of damage FEMA will be here with government help.

It's special (insert expensive) earthquake insurance. And if you decide not to carry it, you have to sign a waiver. Doesn't matter if your on a fault line or not.

What are you still doing awake?

No..you have to buy special insurance...and a really high deductible

I wonder if it depends on where you are? We are in San Diego and our earthquake policy is 1/5 the cost of our homeowners policy. I wonder too if it depends on how long you have had the policy. We have had ours for at least 10 years probably more.

Michelle

Ah, back from the company picnic and all done with ketchup.

Here's my 2c on earthquake insurance:

We have earthquake insurance. When the 7.1 Loma Prieta hit back in '89, they showed all the pics of houses burning in Santa Cruz, well that was the street our house was on. Most of the houses there had no foundations and just crumbled, for some reason, my wife's little 860 sq.ft. place had been moved to that street and sat on a new foundation, which she didn't know at the time and survived with effectively zero damage (thank you Lord).

What we do know is that FEMA won't be coming to help you out in the big picture. What they will do is get you into temporary housing and then give you a subsidised loan to help rebuild (some of our friends did this on their Santa Cruz Mountains home).

Sure, the deductible is something like 20%, but that's of the rebuild price, which is not the market price (which includes the land). When we moved from our micro house to our new place some 12 years ago, we purchased the earthquake insurance. If a quake had levelled our new home, there was no way we could have afforded to continue the mortgage and pay a second loan back to FEMA to rebuild - we would have been out luck. We reasoned it'd be easier to find a way to cover the 20% deductible and have our house rebuilt, than to be out on the street. It's a peace of mind thing and YMMV.

Yes, policies are somewhat variable in price depending on how far from a fault you live, but most of us who are on the CA coast are sitting pretty close to one, so we probably all pay the same amount (give or take depending on assessed value)

By the time we cruise you will be 12 weeks - good timing! Over the (morning sickness) hump and before the bump! :)

I cruised at about the same time in my pregnancy. I brought along ginger capsules for residual morning sickness and seasickness and they worked great.

I would never be able to cruise while pregnant. I was never "over" morning sickness, and it last all day long. I was sick until the day I had my son, and at about 6 months (when I was pregnant with my dd) I felt a little better, but still not great. My mom and sister were the same way. We are just not good at being pregnant.

It's actually a very upbeat song!

I had a similar conversation with Robert Smith - maybe even in the same Columbus bar. :lmao:

This one, I would not admit.....Unless you are talking about the lead singer of The Cure.

I can't even imagine packing for a little one! I give you alot of credit! Noe those amounts are going to last for 2 weeks??

Chrissie

I will probably take more diapers... When we went to WDW last Xmas, she got sick and I was changing a LOT more diapers!

Supposedly it's worse with boys... I had very little problem with DD. That's probably another untrue old wives tale though! My mom and sister also had no problems being pregnant.

ITA! I felt like I always took a suitcase with me even when we were just going to the grocery store. I can't imageine packing for a baby for this long! Very impressive!

Can't you just see her walking around DL and the ship with hundreds and hundreds of singles? Watch out, people will talk, people will talk...

But just think -- then she is perfectly set up with ones for room service tipping and small bills for exact purchases in the Mexican ports . . .:thumbsup2

Have you thought of picking up items in CA or in port? I know there is a walmart at one of the ports?

Chrissie

Puerto Vallarta, across from the ships, but probably still need to take a taxi over.

There is a group in chat that is talking about going over as soon as the ship docks for water, etc. All are welcome!

pirate: 'ing for Happy Birthday Cheryl!!!

Holy cow! Mine was only like $10 (and some odd cents) for shipping, and like $3 (and some odd cents) for 1 uploaded image. How in the world did your total come to that? I only printed one order of 100 cards, and I figure my kids can take turns handing out.

We had 2 uploaded images each and expediated delivery came to $25.99 each. Since we have their picture on the postcards we got separate and they will each hand out.

Well at least we know Stephanie will be eating at 8:00!!!!:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I am hoping you will be eating with the peeps I assigned to link with and the rest of our group!!:rolleyes1 :flower3:

I'm going on the assumption that we will all be eating at 8pm! :thumbsup2

Wow!!! I never realized you are not covered under your home owner's insurance.:headache: :headache:

We are still covered for a tornado which can also have massive destruction!!!

We are too. The year the tornado went through and destroyed Downtown Fort Worth, we lost our fence. Insurance paid their portion. We also have a tendency to lots of hail damage. We've had a roof replaced, etc...
I know a few years back my county led the nation in natural disaster claims! :scared1:

:goodvibes Okay...........no stressing allowed here - this is supposed to be fun!!. I think as moms we need to help our own girls achieve whatever badge they are trying to earn. We can plan a few activities and then it is up to our girls (and moms or dads) to get the rest of their activities done to accomplish earning the badge or try it. For example, my daughter has already made her packing list of things she needs to take with us for this trip. She will also be involved in all the packing so she will meet two requirements out of 6 before we even leave home. Also, remember there will be a "journal" to print off that someone here is coordinating so our girls can work on a travel journal as well which is probably another requirement that will be met.

I also think this is something we should do in less than an hour as to avoid conflicts with any other things people may have planned.

Winotracy sent me a PM and said she would be willing to talk to the girls about being a travel agent...........if the time works out for her & she is still willing then she will be our travel professional the girls can talk with.

So my proposal is.........we split the girls into 4 groups and rotate every 10 minutes . One center could be the postcards. Second center will be the travel professional interview/talk. Third would be the brainstorm safety issues while travelling or it could be ship specific - see ReanST post below #1.
Then 4th center could be coming up with a small skit or song (I am not sure about what kind of theme here & I am not sure 10 minutes would be enough time). Four centers would be 40 minutes and the last 10 minutes each group can do their song or skit. OR we can just do 3 centers and as a large group make up a song and spend 20 minutes or so doing it. Anyways, this plan would keep it at one hour.

It seems then the only supplies we would need would be paper for the postcards and some colored pencils. Maybe each girl should think of a question to ask our travel professional and have it in their hands. I guess for the brainstorm list we could make a paper that they can list their safety ideas and for the skit they would not need anything.

I will be happy to supply the postcard making materials and "run" this center.

I am not sure what the requirement are for cadettes and seniors - maybe they can "run" part of the "meeting"??? OR.....maybe they could come up with a song to teach the girls???

Sorry for the long post. This has been on my mond too. We are doing this on the thursday right after the patch swap correct??
You are my new best friend! This just might all come together! Yes, it's right after the patch swap!
Just so long as I don't miss Palo brunch, I'm good! Just let me know when.

Tracy
Thanks so much! We'll make sure you don't miss brunch! What time are you going?

So I finally made it to the orthopedic doctor today. I now have a walking boot on my foot. Although the doc talked about putting a screw in my foot to hold the bone together and then having me in a cast for 8 weeks. I have another appointment in 6 weeks to check my foot to see if it is healing.

So I hope that my foot heals without the screw.

It will make the trip interesting.
Glad to hear for now it doesn't need surgery!
