It's time to celebrate cabin assignments. Can this work by Jean Fouquet inspire the creative captioners among us beyond yesterday's hilarious results?

Formal Night at Lumiers

Life boat drill is at 3:30 that is why I suggested before or after to meet. It really is in the middle of our plans so we thought 2:00 pm for those that arrive early and after fire drill. Maybe this will make it easier for the wristbands and the lanyards to be given out and collected.

I am on port side.:sad2: I am not uprising because I know I can visit someone on the other side.:rolleyes1 I was told by two different people who did go through The PC before that the only side is starboard. I am only believing what I was told.:headache: :headache:

I'm so far behind tonight!!

Now I need to go look and see what side we're on. I think it's starboard....but we've always been on the "other" side except for the cruise in the Walt.
Nope...I'm all turned around! We're port, too. Oh well. We'll just have to wait and see I suppose.

I'm one of the people she is referring to and I was on the Eastbound PC cruise last time. The photographers and people from Panama were all on the starboard side.

Guess we'll be making friends on starboard too. ;)

Oh...by the way....it wasn't that I didn't believe you or Cheryl...I just didn't see how DCL could photgraph one side and not the other, and not make a lot of people upset. But then...if they can't GET on the other side, then there's nothing they can do about that.

Just got off the phone with a potential employer. I just submitted for the job yesterday. Not sure if my resume stood out that much, or they just haven't gotten many applicants. Doesn't really matter to me either way.

The conversation was just a screening type interview but she's going to forward my information to the hiring manager and try to schedule a phone interview for tomorrow.

Prayers to whomever you pray to, all the pixie dust you can spare, and crossing all your crossables would be appreciated.

Got my eyes crossed for ya!!

They had one on the 11-day 2 years ago. I emailed and asked them if they were going to have one on our cruise. It took a LONG time, but they eventually responded with a YES.

They did "family" talent shows on the Mexican Riviera this time and the last time also.

What I want to see again is the CREW Talent show. That was awesome!

I posted one of my door signs yesterday.

If anybody wants to use the graphic to make their own sign, feel free.

Here's a link to a larger version:

Here's another one that I did for our PV Zipline day.

I tried to pirate: the first one, downloaded it to my pictures, but can't open it from there. Something about not finding a program to open the file or whatever. Darn I'm missing my PC while it's broken!!

Finally got the cabin assignment!! The internet was down at work all day and it was torture waiting. We're in 1038. I have to say I'm disappointed that we got a cabin on deck 1. I wasn't expecting an upgrade (well, it would have been nice to go from a Cat 9 to something higher) but I was really hoping for the Deck 2 cabin. But happy to finally have a cabin assigned.

At least you're first off the ship in port!!

Actual Cruise Question!
We are in 7576. On the deck map it doesn't show an indentation between rooms, does that mean we don't have a steamer trunk? What do we have then? Also, between our cabin and the next, there double solid lines. What does that mean? :confused3

Just heard from Disney Weddings....:woohoo: :woohoo:

Our ceremony has been moved to 4:00 p.m.!!!

Now I feel better...as the photographer is doing the extra pictures after the ceremony. We don't have to eat in the buffet! :yay:

:cool1: YAY!! I'm so happy for you!! You will LOVE the pictures that they take.

No idea about the steamer trunk. I think the double solid lines indicate watertight bulkheads. Based on location I suspect that's where the two halves of the ship were joined.

That's what I thought, too.
In looking at the 360 view of those rooms, your steamer trunk is at the foot of the bed..on the opposite wall, of course. What you're missing, as far as the square you mentioned, is the "handy bench" across from the bed.

Well, then I guess you'll miss Cheryl, Diane & Laura dancing on the tables in Rockin' D.

Lisa,
Thanks for the positive reinforcement!! I've got all your tips - I'm relying on him to make our Wench's Tea work also!!

Do the Moms get Brownie Points...or a Bronze badge....for passing on the private room at Palo this time??
We opted to not ask for it, because we've done it a few times, both brunch and dinner, so that others could have a chance to experience it.

Wishing you luck!!!

I'm just curious... Has anyone here gotten free room upgrades?

I don't think so. And if they did, they wouldn't admit it for fear of being made to walk the plank!!pirate:

Edited to ask....do you mean for THIS cruise...or any? I meant this cruise. We've gotten them on other cruises.

Formal Night at Lumiers

jean_fouquet_banner.jpg

Fouquet (or Foucquet), Jean (c. 1420-c. 1481). The outstanding French painter of the 15th century. He was born at Tours and is known to have been in Rome between 1443 and 1447, when he painted a portrait, now lost, of Pope Eugenius IV. Much has been made of this Italian journey, the influence of which can be detected in the perspective essays and Classical architecture of his subsequent works, but the strongly scrulptural character of his painting, which was deeply rooted in his native tradition, did not succumb to Italian influence.

On his return from Italy Fouquet entered the service of the French court. His first patron was Etienne Chevalier, the royal secretary and lord treasurer, for whom he produced a Book of Hours (1450-60), now dismembered but mainly in the Musee Conde at Chantilly, and who appears in the Diptych of Melun (c. 1450), now divided between Antwerp (Musee Royal) and Berlin (Staatliche Museen). The Virgin in this work, at Antwerp, is rumored to be a portrait of Agnes Sorel, Charles VII's mistress, whom Chevalier had also loved. It was not until 1475 that Fouquet became Royal Painter (to Louis XI), but in the previous year he was asked to prepare designs for the king's tomb, and he must have been the leading court artist for many years.

Whether he worked on miniatures or on a larger scale in panel paintings, Fouquet's art had the same monumental character. His figures are modelled in broad planes defined by lines of magnificent purity. He was essentially a draughtsman, and it was his drawing that imparted to his compositions their balance and clarity. His sculptural sense of form went with a cool and detached temperament, and in his finest works the combination creates a deeply impressive gravity.

Dan....

... this is fascinating! I find myself unexpectedly enriched with this new knowledge! Thanks for the referring inspiration! And on another note... I'll be passing through your neck of the woods staying near Great America on Friday/Sat before continuing in the late morning enroute to SF and a mini-DIS meet with Monica plus a few other DIS neighbors.
