Just spent almost 2 hours on the phone with HP. Computer was working fine this morning. Took a break, then came back to it only to find that the Wireless Assistant was no longer working. It was as if my wireless card had been pulled out. The Device Manager didn't detect it, and nothing I did could restore it.
After going round and round with HP, finally found out that there is a known issue with certain model numbers (mine included) and the motherboard has to be replaced. It is a free replacement, but I'll be without my computer for a few weeks.

Might actually take them longer because even though I had her note on there that my laptop screen doesn't work and you have to connect to an external monitor, I'm sure the tech geeks will ignore that and claim that I sent it in for the wrong type of repair. Unfortunately they want almost $300 to fix the screen and for that I can just get a new laptop (almost).
I've got an old desktop that I can use in a pinch while the other is being repaired, but it is so slow. It literally takes 25 minutes for it to boot up. I can go online, but each page loads so slow. For now, I'm still on the laptop, plugged into the desktop's monitor, with the modem plugged in since I can't go wireless.
