8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #11

Finally got around to purchasing an underwater camera. Went with the Olympus SW 790 since I do not plan on going down below 10'. It will double as our excursion camera (zipline). I would make a suggestion to anyone that gets one of these. I did not like the hand strap while in the pool, kept feeling like it was going to fall off. So I purchased a neck strap made for a Cannon but will work for any P/S camera. I think this will come in handy while ziplining as well.

Roger, my son ended up getting the SW 1030, he is certain he will need the extra 20 ft for his pictures

I am really pushing for him to get the neck strap for our zipline trip too. Right now he has that camera in his pocket 24/7 and while I am happy he is pursuing his photographic interest, I would prefer to see the camera around his neck most of the cruise! Where did you find the neck strap if I might ask?

I got mine from Amazon. If I am not mistaken they require/recommend you to have a neck strap for the ziplines. I actually read an article about the SW-770 (30ft) camera that a bunch of divers took down to 100ft to test it. It was slow to respond but still took pictures at 100'. So I figure that the 790 is good to at least 20'.

For those familiar with DL I am wondering how far the areas for the fireworks and fantasmic are from each other. The fireworks are listed as 9:25 and Fantasmic is 10 so I am hoping that will give us enough time to see both. TIA!

You will be able to see some of the fireworks from the Fantasmic area..however...if you watch the fireworks from the hub (the best place) it will be difficult to get to Fantasmic and find a place to sit and watch...just my opinion.

Thank you so much, I just ordered one for him. I really thought the 790 was a great value and would have been a great camera but you know 15 year olds, they know everything and since he was buying it himself there was no talking him out of it.

It would be great to see some of your underwater pics and compare them with DSs. Maybe an informal photo sharing day, we are bringing our laptop if you are interested.

I really need a vacation after today. First off, I had to come into work early to pull a 12 hour shift. Before that I had to take my cat to the vet and my car completely died half way there. Then once I got there I had to put my cat down. And then on top of it, I wasn't able to go to Disneyland today. For you that don't know, today is Disneyland's Birthday.

This is the first time in 9 years that I haven't been there to celebrate its birthday there.

I feel the same way about not paying for a tour that will spend a lot of time shopping. I have three teen boys and two are not too keen on the idea of this cruise to start with! I have followed the ACA Port Dude thread on the cruise critic website, and it seems that we can just get a cab and go see the dive show on our own; it will probably be the first thing the tour does. So this is what we plan to do since I really want to see the divers. I saw them back in '84 and remember being impressed. Then I plan on coming back and maybe strolling to the fort.

Well that would be cool if we could see the divers on our own or something without having to pay so much and do such a long excursion. I mean we picked the one with less shopping and still it seems like such a long excursion- the whole time we're there? So there has to be a lot of shopping or lots of standing around waiting for the cliff divers or something!

That is one of the sweetest things that I have ever heard about happening with Mickey.

I cried at the last breakfast too. Not too much at our early seating but when our late seating friends came in to say goodbye and then we followed them to say goodbye to all of our other DISpals we were a bunch of blubbering babies. At that time we were all rebooked for the December 2007 cruise and would see each other in a year [some before that] but it was still sad that this amazing experience was coming to an end. Of course with the Repo announcement we all switched our December cruise to either the May or August and all but two of the kids' buddies went on the May. If you see me tearing up during the cruise I will admit that even with the friends who we are cruising with this time and all of the new friends I have made over the past 1 1/2 years, there will still be something missing for me on the ship. We have cruised with one family three times and when we were looking at their May pics DD would frown and point at a picture with her friends and say that she should be there or there in the picture. I knew just how she felt.

Well, we feel like chopped liver now! LOL
But seriously..... I hope once you're on the cruise you don't feel like something is missing. It would have to be impossible to ALWAYS cruise with the same friends every time.... so just try to be open minded about making new friends that maybe you'll click with just as much as the other friends and then you'll have DOUBLE the friends and double the kids' buddies. yanno?
I know I'm glad some of my friends from the last cruise are going on this cruise and sad that some aren't going on this cruise- but likewise making so many new friends the past year+ and looking forward to meeting them and having a good time with them. I refuse to feel like something is missing on the ship regardless of who is there on the ship with me.

Peeking at the DL board tonight I found this thread on the protesting. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1889267 It doesn't sound too nice being woken up by banging pots and pans at 6 am.

i watched the videos. I'm glad we're not staying on disney property. I understand why they are protesting but I would not be sympathetic for their side if they woke me up banging hubcaps and stuff at 6am and such. That's not cool. It's like they want to punish the people paying to stay there? Well who do they think pays their paychecks? If people don't stay there- they don't have jobs...... so why punish the people staying there? I mean if I stay there- I can't MAKE disney give them better benefits- so they are trying to tick off customers so they'll complain to disney and then maybe disney will give in to their demands? Meanwhile they are disturbing people's vacations. Would they like it if we went to THEIR vacation spot and stood out their hotel banging hubcaps and screaming in the morning? Does it have to be that dang early? Can't they do it later in the day? Wouldn't their protest get noticed by more people when more people are AWAKE ALREADy and out and about to see the protest?
geesh I feel sorry for anyone staying there when that goes on.

I have posted a topic on the Pirate Zone Form. Pdarrah and Micmse familes will be walking to the fort in Acapulco, If anyone is interested please leave message on board. We will be leave at 9:00 am.and meet in the Atrium of the ship. Hope we will have lots of DISers going with for a nice little walk.

Unless that date has a special event of some kind.... Fantasmic has 2 showings every night. 9:00 and 10:30. You have plenty of time to get to the 2nd Fantasmic showing. It tends to be a bit chaotic for the first 10 min or so after the fireworks and they do rope off entering the Fantasmic area for a few minutes to let those 10,000 people out before letting in the next crowd.

The fireworks are best in front of the castle, in my opinion. If you can get on Mainstreet near the entrance to Frontierland (but not too close to it as to obstruct your view of the castle), you can be in go position to head to Fantasmic right as it ends.

I think someone else said it, but if you find a place on Main Street close to the entrance to Frontierland, and then book it when fireworks are over, you should be able to get in. You mentioned trying to get the priority seating for Fantasmic. If you do that, you should have no problem getting a seat since you're guaranteed. Good luck!

Bring some for me too, please! Last cruise we took (March 2007) we invited my Mom to go with us. Little did we know at the time that she would pass away in October. It was the next to the last time we would see her alive. This will be bittersweet.

I'm so not having luck with magnets for the door!
first the magnet stuff I bought at the dollar store had to be returned because when I took the backing off it wasn't sticky at all!
Then I spent hours making magnets on zazzle.com and they cancelled my magnet order because it had Disney stuff on some of the magnets. (and they said they had to cancel the entire order- not just the ones that violated their policy on that)

So then I have had others on this board help me, got designs off this thread, Lisa made me some, found my laminator machine in the attic, bought laminating stuff today and magnet tape from Staples, printed them out, laminated them (not all of them- just a few so far) and THE DARN MAGNET TAPE WON'T STICK TO THE LAMINATED PICTURES!
It sticks "sorta" but it wouldn't take much for the laminated signs to fall right off and I'd end up with a door full of pieces of magnets (only) all over it. with door magnets on the floor of the hallway?

sigh.

I would like to thank all of the people offering their verandas for all of us porch less folks on deck 1 and 2 and inside cabins. I do have a counter proposal to offer though. If any of you would like to get a once in a lifetime shot of the actual walls of the locks maybe you could stop by and take a picture out of our window. I mean everyone can get a picture from deck 10 but only us lucky lower deck s get a view of the actual lock walls.

I think we could make a deal..... I'm just oddball enough to want a picture of the walls of the locks.

Todd we are in the process of attaching the parrot to my shoulder. We are very close to coming up with a solution short of training a live parrot in the next month.

Did you have a place for belt buckles?

Todd do you use anything else besides tea to stain clothes? The pants are polyester (not very ie I know) and tea is not staining them.

Let me wear them to dinner one night...guaranteed to have spills and stains.

We use Bath and Body Works body spray! It works great and you can get small bottles that pack well! Besides, I can't stand air freshener spray.

I always bring Gold Canyon (Candles) car air freshener. It's on a cardboard card that you peel back the plastic on, to release only as much fragrance at a time as you need.

Lisa, it is only about a 5 min walk from Fantasmic to the castle but crowds start gathering for the fireworks 1-2 hours ahead of time. So by the time Fantasmic is over it is impossible to get a good spot for the fireworks.

You can still see the fireworks from just about anywhere...it just isn't as good a view as you'd have if you were facing the castle.

I had thought of crazy glue but me and crazy glue don't get along real well for some reason.
I hadn't thought of hot glue gun though.. hmmm
BUT I just started taping the darn magnets on the back and that seems to be working.
But now I'm just MAD at myself for returning those huge packages of magnets to the dollar tree ($1 a pkg and quite a bit of magnet in those packages!) just because they weren't sticky on the back- because this expensive tiny rolls of magnetic tape is no stickier than they were! ughhhhhhhh I could have avoided all the "issues" I"ve had trying to get door magnets made from that point on- but noooooo I had to return them because they weren't sticky and here I am taping the expensive magnetic tape to the back of my door magnets anyway! Could have been done a lot sooner too. Story of my life. LOL
