8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #10

I also bought most of the Harry Potter Lego sets from Target at 75% off. Unfortunately, I think I may have missed a set or two and they have since been discontinued. I've been giving them to DS over the last couple of years for birthdays, Christmas, etc. Fortunately, he got addicted to the HP books after I bought the Legos but before I started giving them to him!

They recently opened a Lego store in our local mall (the first one in Texas!). They had a Grand Opening two weeks ago. They had a Lego Master Model Builder here and they constructed an 8-ft tall Yoda in the mall over the course of the weekend. They invited the kids to come help out by building bricks which were then used to build the big Yoda. Everyone who participated got a certificate. I'll try to remember to post some pictures later. It was a lot of fun, and there were lots of people there. There was a pretty long line just to get in the store!

Our lego store had the same event about two months ago. We took the kids out on day 2 of building the Yoda. The Brickmaster was about as tall as the Yoda he was making! Anyway, we took the kids back to the lego store a month or so later. I was expecting to see the Yoda, but it wasn't there. I guess they just build it and then take it apart? Here's a picture of Deryk with the miniature Yoda with the large one in process behind him:

Hey everyone! I was inspired to try and make a door magnet out of "our" phrases here on the thread. What do you think? Any suggestions or changes? Anyone who would like is welcome to use it, but I will upload a larger version that will print better once it is finished.

I don't know if I've mentioned it....I probably have about a thousand times! LOL! BUT, DS LOVES Mt Vernon!!! The pic in my sig was taken at MV!!

Here is a pic I took of the kids while we were going through the museum -- we could have spent days there!!!

My middle son keeps talking about wanting to visit DC. I think we're going to try to make a trip next year. He is really into history, especially US history. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting Mount Rushmore this past month.

I think the clubs are the worst. I can see how it would be easy for the servers to mix up tabs. We had a few drinks that weren't our on our last bill. Removed them no problem.

Yes, I think they should insist you use your KTTWC, as this would stop the errors, mine was caused by people using paper bills and not using their cards, but they would have ot get back in their stateroom later so it must be around.

With so much of California on fire right now...it boggles my mind that some cities still allow fireworks. Not that it matters really, as our city does not allow them and hasn't in years, and we have tons of very loud and large fireworks still going off as I type this!

I live in Whittier..illeagal here but piles of them going off on our very street botht the legal (TNT etc) and illeagal...Mom lives just up the street from Biola...near the park...

Let me know when you have some time...we will get together...I dont know your work schedule but I am home during the day unless I have a party or event to do. and most evenings.

I will probably check in here now and then but not that much, and I will definitely miss things if someone posts on the thread with a cabin assignment but doesn't PM me with the info. Everyone, help each other to send me the info when the excitement begins and the lifeboat gets assigned!

OK Moms. How jealous are you?? DSs have been at Camp GrammyGrampy for a week & DH left a few minutes ago to join them in southern Ohio (Salt Fork Lake) for 4 days. I'm all alone.

All the dirty dishes in the sink will be mine. The only lunch I have to pack is mine. I can watch whatever I want on TV. I can go into the bathroom or talk on the phone without 3 people calling my name. I can eat peanut butter and chocolate chips for dinner if I want. This will be nice!

We can spend days there. It is about 2 miles to the front entrance, but if we want to jump the fence, it is just a few blocks from our house.

We have a plaque next to our front door that says this house sits on one of the original 5 farms of Mount Vernon. We are on Union Farm. I'm a history nerd, so I love it.

I made a sign for our guest room: "George Washington's Crops Slept Here"

The other time Lisa was asked about "abuse" was a few months ago. She had hurt her hand vaulting and the Coaches thought she might have broken on of her fingers. So, we took her to the emergency room. The Doctor, who obviously had never seen a gymnasts arms before, was very concerned about the bruises on her wrists, along with the possible broken finger.

Now that Lisa is 13, she could explain to the Doctor that all of the bumps and bruises on her were from gymnastics and not to worry. Thankfully her finger wasn't broken (after x-rays), just jammed badly. The Doctor told her no physical activity for a while, to which Lisa laughed. Even if she couldn't use her hand, there are a number of skills she would work on that don't require your hands. And if she could not do an event (ie Bars), she could always conditon. The Doctor did not really know how to respond to that. I bet all of our athletic children would find a way to cope when they are hurt without giving up their sport completely for a while.

Reminds me of a conversation I had at my first OB appointment when I was pregnant with first DS. "How long can I keep skating??" Her eyes basically bugged out of her head! I had to carefully explain that I was more likely to trip and fall walking down the street. I competed until 4.5 months when I started to look a bit poofy in those little dresses, but I was on skates coaching until 6 months.

ER docs looked pretty closely at my dad the summer my mom broke her ankle and 5-year-old brother broke his leg about 2 weeks apart.

Mt Vernon is very cool. I am a big fan as well... And of Washington, DC

Great place to visit...wouldn't want to live here.
Of course, you live in NYC, so DC would be nothin' for you.

I didn't know the Denver area had a Lego store...... I'ld rather go to Denver then Houston! :rotfl: And 10ds favorite Aquarium is in Denver....and my favorite Chirldren's museum......

If he loves American history then Philidelphia is a fantastic place to go!! The *birth place* of our country!!!

Mt Rushmore is COOL! We took the kids there about 4 or 5 yrs ago. One night while watching tv there was a comercial for South Dakota and dh & I looked at each other and said *We've never been there!* So, a few months later we were there! :)

Had a monsoon like storm yesterday at DSs. He lives about 2 miles from us. Stayed with him as long as we could and made a run for the car. Gotta love the weather here. Not a drop when we drove into our area.:confused3

75 currently going to 90 under fair skies. Looks good now but............

Made DH try on most of his pants. His conception of what is appropriate for dinner and mine are not finding common ground. At this point as long as he has pants on I'm fine. He reminded me we are on vacation. He is renting the Tux so we have that covered..:lmao:

I still need one more dressy outfit. Maybe we will head to the mall as he needs to get his measurements.

How old is your DS? My DS9 is also a history buff and would have read everything on the wall at the Jefferson Memorial if I had let him ... underneath the statue about his life. :)

We spent 10 days over spring break 2006 up there because DH was completing his graduate internship at the NTSB. I even took the kids into the district for 12 hour days on my own via the Metro. They loved it!!! We stood in line early to get Capitol tour and Washington Monument tickets. They were 5 and 7 at the time and wanted to move up there because they loved the museums so much. We want to go again in a couple years and do more that we didn't get to like the US Mint.

What happened to the signers of the Declaration of Independence??

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. Many lost their lives, more lost their fortunes, but none lost their honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists, eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated, but they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was all but destroyed and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife’s bedside as she was dying. Their thirteen children fled for their lives. His fields and gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year, he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished

.... Thank you for sharing this. I am amazed (and on reflection, not surprised) with the revelation. Somehow, this is so poignant - especially given the occassion we've all just marked. I think some may recall how my parents escaped WW2... running from the invading Japanese then having to turn around to run from the advancing Communists. Only to emerge from Ellis island to muse (1st) where are the soldiers w machine guns?... (2nd) and LOOK at all the clean new cars?.... and (3rd) We've finally made it out (of the horror of the past few years!). My Dad has often reminded me of what we escaped in his lifetime - and what America represents to us.... an incredible home for our children.

Maybe my thoughts are incomplete, almost certainly they are less then perfect, however they are what pases in this respectful moment as a result of Ms' thoughts above.

OK.. I gotta go now. We have 7 families meeting to hit Leo Carrillo beach today. For this we have those who fought and stand resolute to earn our freedom for our way of life.
