Yes, parenthood changes everything. But parenthood also changes with each baby. Here are some of the ways having a second and third child differs from having your first:

Your Clothes

1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.

The Baby's Name

1st baby: You pour over baby-name books and practice pronouncing and writing combinations of all your favorites.
2nd baby: Someone has to name his or her kid after your great-aunt Mavis, right? It might as well be you.
3rd baby: You open a name book, close your eyes, and see where your finger points.

Preparing for the Birth

1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
2nd baby: You don't bother practicing because you remember that last time, breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your 8th month.

The Layette

1st baby: You pre-wash your newborn's clothes, color-coordinate them, and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Worries

1st baby: At the first sign of distress--a whimper, a frown--you pick up the baby.
2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your 3-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

Pacifier

1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until you can go home and wash and boil it.
2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it off with some juice from the baby's bottle.
3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.

Sleeping

1st baby: Sleeps in your bedroom for the first six - eight weeks
2nd baby: Sleeps in your bedroom for the first two weeks
3rd baby: Goes right from the hospital nursery into their own room

Baby Book

1st baby: You religiously make entries every day, carefully noting the number of spit-ups and bowel movements for the first year
2nd baby: You enter a few facts each week but stop after 6 months
3rd baby: You buy the book but enter the child's name, birth weight, and length on the first page

Diapering

1st baby: You change your baby's diapers every hour, whether they need it or not.
2nd baby: You change their diaper every 2 to 3 hours, if needed.
3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to complain about the smell or you see it sagging to their knees.

Activities

1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and Baby Story Hour.
2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaner.

Going Out

1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home 5 times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.
3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.

At Home

1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of every day watching to be sure your older child isn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Swallowing a coin

1st child: When first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the hospital and demand x-rays.
2nd child: When 2nd child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for coin to pass.
3rd child: When 3rd child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!!

Pass this on to everyone you know who has children...or everyone who KNOWS someone who has had children... (the older the mother, the funnier this is!)

I wonder what it says about me that I did the third child ones with the first and only:lmao:

You know, I was just thinking the exact same thing! I only have my one DS and I think we did several of the "third child" things. Actually, I never even got his name written in the baby book - I finally donated it to goodwill since it was totally empty and unwritten in when he was 5!

I have a question that might get overlooked but here it goes.
I have purchased my FE gifts. They are something that is on almost everyones packing list. Should I just spill what it is so the FE people do not have to pack it or not? I have never done this before. I know it's not the SM but just not sure.

Coral

Personally, I think it would be wonderful to know that I didn't have to pack something . . .

Hey everyone! I was inspired to try and make a door magnet out of "our" phrases here on the thread. What do you think? Any suggestions or changes? Anyone who would like is welcome to use it, but I will upload a larger version that will print better once it is finished.

Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!! You will post it on pirate zone or something full resolution when it is finished so it doesn't let lost on this thread, right? Thanks so much for doing something so creative (and so "us"!) . . .

For the peanut....

I believe the phrase is "oooh look a peanut..." add the oooh part :thumbsup2

hmmm wonder what the one mom at our church would say... she has 7 kids...

1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.

hey don't knock the breathing stuff... i didn't get to use it when dd was born (emergency c-section) but it was one of the only ways i got through two weeks of undiagnosed gallbladder attacks before having it out. (yeah and i was on pain meds too but it still hurt.)

I waited 20 minutes for someone to come and empty out a dryer. Than I did something I don't usually do, I took out their stuff!

If it's not underwear...I'll usually fold it for them after i put my stuff in.

My favorite local in Memphis is D'bos mmm.. we are in Memphis right now and that sounds like a wonderful 4th item......

We went to the Redbirds game last night and Nick was selected to be Kid of the Day and was able to yell " PLAY BALL" after the national anthem.

HAPPY 4th of July everyone.

DBo's is exactly the one I was talking about. Best wings I have ever had. If you go, have a wing or two for me! Wish I could get some out here.

How exciting for Nick.

I was thinking about door signs last night and wondered if we had anything other than our logo that would identify us. This is perfect!

That was on purpose :lmao: If you had taken it Tom then he was going to do his special magic to bump you.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Anyone been married more than 10 years who wants to see their DH dance??

Yeah, but he was before Cherie.

I don't want to see any man dance unless the dance includes picking up after himself (& the kids) and doing the dishes......

Ok, the line about him being before Cherie.... I seriously almost choked on my drink.

Here is Version 2 with a couple changes Roger suggested. What do you think?

Please feel free to Pirate (the idea or the whole design!). As soon as we "finallize" it, I will post a higher resolution version which will print better.

Any other ideas/thoughts/comments? Each element is on a separate layer in the design, so it is very easy to make changes.

Pamela

I am soooo loving it and I can't wait to use it!!!

I know it's getting kinda full but for a while we had possum (O'possum) and Drink!

I've been doing some cleaning out in our "junk room" today and came across 2 dresses that do not fit me and aren't going to fit me unless I lose 20 or 30 pounds (at my current rate of 3-4 lbs/year that is going to take a while!) They are both Jessica McClintock dresses and I hate just putting them into a bag for goodwill. It occured to me that there still might be DIS friends looking for dresses for themselves or a teen that might be able to use them. I would be happy to ship them to anyone who is willing to just pay the postage (or UPS charge if that is cheaper).

I got decent photos of the 1st one - but I'm going to have to try again with the second (the bodice is black velvet and it just came out solid black with no detail). Here is the 1st. It is a very light pink with a hint of peach. If anyone is interested, send me a PM or email (pdarrah@sprynet.com). I'll post the 2nd dress photos once I get ones that really show what it looks like :)

The first photo is the front. The straps are just for hanging it up (not really part of the dress) It is strapless with the "wings" on each side by your shoulders. There is some boning in the bodice to keep it up. It says it is an 11/12, but it runs smaller than that. I am between a 12 and 14 now and this isn't even close to fitting me! As you can see, it is not full length - more of a 3/4 length (or shorter if you are tall).

The second photo is the back. There is a zipper underneath the big bow. The bow is sewed on one side and has a snap thing that connects it to the other side.

I just got an e-mail from Zazzle.com, and I figured I'd pass it on in case anybody else was thinking about ordering Mickey Mouse Club t-****s. They're running a 4th of July sale this weekend. It's 17.76% off an order of $50 or more. the code is ZAZZLEUSAUSA .

I plan on making ours....if I ever get new ink cartridges.

cute!

I recently ended up having a go-round with Great Wolf Lodge over a tip. I ordered 2 beers at the pool bar and charged it to our room. I tipped $1, call me cheap, but I refuse to tip more when I have to walk up and wait at the bar all a bartender does is remove the cap and hand it across the bar before I turn around and walk back to my chair. I tip way more if they actually make my drink or we are sitting at the bar. ANYWAY...we had an $11 tip on our bill. For $9 worth of ridiculously overpriced beer. After a 20 minute check out process while they talked about fixing it, 4 phone calls over 2 weeks, and a less than glowing online guest survey, I had my $11 dollars credited and a $75 gift card for a future stay. I think someone got in trouble.

Maybe it is just me but this tipping is getting out of hand. Now we tip where appropriate and DH is a big tipper, leaves more then I would but when the tip jars started coming out on the counter at dunkin donuts and mcdonald's, etc that is where I draw the line.

Jordan and I saw a t-shirt today, and now I wish I'd bought it. It said:

I BEAT ANOREXIA

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My sons favorite T-Shirt remains - "Genius by Birth, Slacker by Choice"

My daughter's is "Working Hard Beats Talent When Talent Doesn't Work Hard"

Two very different children and I LOVE them both!:grouphug:

Well, no fireworks for us, but we had a very patriotic day.

We rode our bikes to Mount Vernon. We didn't wait in line to go into the house, but there were a lot of Revolutionary reenactors and we met George & Martha. We also spent more time in the museum than we usually do with the kids.

Tonight we went to dinner at Gadsby's Tavern in Old Town Alexandria - just a few miles from our house. Washington, Adams, Madison, Monroe, Lafayette, et al.'s hangout. Jefferson had his innaugural banquet there. Pretty cool.

Ok, the line about him being before Cherie.... I seriously almost choked on my drink.

Sure, it's funny if it doesn't get me banned for life. Or end up with Roger hating me. :flower3:

OMG! THE KIDS SM INFO HAS BEEN SENT OUT!

If for some godforsaken reason I forgot your child, please e-mail me via the other website or my personal e-mail. I have decided to take a small break ( yeah I know!!!!:lmao: :rotfl2: ) from the DIS for many reasons - some of which are 3 birthdays, 2 anniversaries, 3 medical health situations and some last minute arrangements for the upcoming trips. Can you tell I'm a Leo - great planning here! ;)

I do however, have to check my e-mail everyday due to business reasons so please feel free to write me that way. I cannot promise to check the DIS every day but I will be skimming - maybe. Take care and hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!!

Before anyone asks - it took me 2 days to send out all the kids e-mails so please be patient - I have sent out the first adult SMs. Just just takes time to write all that info. Thanks everyone for your patience!

Here's another shot for you all!
