So, it's different from shoving random objects up your nose or ear, but I think people might appreciate this story (as it's also a
DCL story)....
I was chaperoning a youth group trip that included a 3 night DCL cruise. We were in Atlanta (having taken the red-eye from California) and were just getting settled on the Orlando flight when one of the kids calls out to me to come quickly (with that kind of panicked tone that makes you really move).
I scramble over and find one of our guys with his sweatshirt sort of over his head.
It seems that he had succesfully zippered his sweatshirt to his eyelid.
We called over the flight attendent who looked as stunned as we were, but was quite clear that while she had no idea what to do, she knew we needed to push back fast. So, with no more than a quick warning to the other chaperones, and a few seconds to grab our carryons, I was off the flight with the kid waiting for the paramedics while everyone else headed on to Orlando.
The next five minutes saw a parade of Delta personel who had been seemingly called from every part of the terminal - everyone wanted to see the kid who zippered his sweatshirt to his eyelid.
The paramedics spent a few minutes debating how to proceed, when one of them decided to take the direct approach - he pulled on the zipper handle - hard. Success! The eyelid was released with just a bit of bruising. And the Delta folks had already booked us on the next flight which went smoothly.
No other mishaps on that trip (well, other than the injury on the ship when one of the other kids decided it would be a good idea to play soccer on deck 10 with a basketball while barefoot.... but that's another story).....
