Hanna seems a bit better. Still not 100% still seems kind of loagy if that makes sense??!!!

Hello All! It has been a beautiful day here today. Izzy and I had the dentist early this morning - both ok and no work needed which is always good (well I didn't expect my four year old to need anything but I was relieved that I didn't!)

Then we went to Pizza Hut for lunch with my friend Sophie and her DD who is the same age as Izzy and they are best friends. After lunch we went to Marks Hall which is a local country estate with gardens, a river and and an arboretum. The girls had fun playing together and we all enjoyed ice creams and drinks out in the afternoon sun (with our factor 50 suncream on of course!)

I am expecting the remaining bits for the handmade FE gifts to arrive tomorrow so I may do some of the prep work on that tonight so I can et on with those as the week progresses.

On the CC5k training I missed last nights "real life jog" (actually moving instead of treadmill or wii fit running) but will be going out later tonight with DH. trouble is he really doesn't like to jog so it is mainly power walking but that is better than not going at all.

i did complete the 30 day challenge today on the Wii Active which was good. I did it on the easy setting first time around even though my custom work outs are all medium or hard setting. I will redo the challenge starting tomorrow on the medium setting.

Thanks for the disney pics Kristen, they really gave me a happy disney boost today :) I am glad Hanna is a little better today, hope she is 100% tomorrow.

Jen, I am sorry to hear Ben is in pain and that you are tired. Hope he is also feeling better soon.

Mel

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card.
We are going to try it this year with the understanding I will check every day and if there is anything that was not approved...charging will be gone for them.

If so do you tell them there is a limit?
Yes. It is going to be limited but I haven't decided how much yet. I need to find out how much a smoothie costs.

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out?
No.

Do you have a Kids contract for the cruise? IE Do not play with elevators, do not go in other peoples rooms, do not stay up beyond 12 midnight? meeting point at set times during the day, do not over eat?
I am going to make one for this cruise. Since they will be allowed a bit more freedom on this cruise I want the rules to be very clear for them. I know they will NOT be allowed in other people's rooms (unless I have met the other parents AND know why they are there AND we talk about it). I know neither of my kids will stay up too late. I am sure I will come up with a whole list of rules.

Do you take your kids on shore trips or allow them to go on teenage ones or stay on ship?
The whole family will be doing excursions together.

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner.
Yes. They will have to eat dinner with us every night. The night we have Palo reservations they will eat with their aunt. Dinners are family time and a big part of our cruise.

Jen

Questions from Andrew

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card.
No they are only seven and we will be with them so if they want something we can purchase it for them.

If so do you tell them there is a limit?

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out?
No. Even when they are 8 on our 2010 cruise the answer is no. They are not big fans of the clubs anyways. They like to hang out with us...lol!!

Do you have a Kids contract for the cruise? IE Do not play with elevators, do not go in other peoples rooms, do not stay up beyond 12 midnight? meeting point at set times during the day, do not over eat?
No not needed since they will be with one of us at all times..

Do you take your kids on shore trips or allow them to go on teenage ones or stay on ship?
The whole family will be doing excursions together.

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner.
Yes. They will have to eat dinner with us every night. Vacations are family time and we spend as much time together as possible!!!!

THANK YOU for responses I find them interesting.

Off Topic...
Two questions about the Oceaneers Club/Lab
1. Will the staff page us to pass along messages from our 12 year old?
2. Can the 12 year old check out a 10 year old or 4 year old?

I will post over on the regular cruise boards if no one can help.

I think its no and no, kids over 10 do not have pagers, and therefore they will not do it, my DD now 13 couldnt do it in past years, also adults can only check out, and you select who on the website, self check out allowed 8>10,ages.

KIDS

QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WITH KIDS ON THE CRUISE AGED 8 AND UP?

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card. NO

If so do you tell them there is a limit?

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out?No,
but this time being 12, yes

Do you have a Kids contract for the cruise? IE Do not play with elevators, do not go in other peoples rooms, do not stay up beyond 12 midnight? meeting point at set times during the day, do not over eat? Yes

Do you take your kids on shore trips or allow them to go on teenage ones or stay on ship?Come with us

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner. Yes

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card.
Nope. We go to the onboard shops together once or twice, the kids might get a pin or small souvenier, but there's nothing they need to spend $$ on and they never ask. :woohoo:

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out?
Nope. The youngest are 12 on this cruise, they will have check in/out privileges, but I will ask to be paged when they leave, so I know where they are going. Not likely anything bad will happen, but at least I can pinpoint their comings/goings should they go missing.:thumbsup2

Do you have a Kids contract for the cruise? IE Do not play with elevators, do not go in other peoples rooms, do not stay up beyond 12 midnight? meeting point at set times during the day, do not over eat?

NO going in other's rooms (I don't even want them in the cabin halls - they can meet their friends in the public areas); I hope they know about the elevators (unfortunately I saw too many teens last cruise who did not!); and they'll each have a curfew TBD. :3dglasses

Do you take your kids on shore trips or allow them to go on teenage ones or stay on ship?

We'll be excursioning all together. In St Thomas, we left them on the ship briefly while we walked around the port, right near the ship. Teen did the Teen Wild Side on Castaway Cay last time around; he loved it!

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner.
Yup, this is my one big "rule" on the cruises - we all eat dinner together and then go see the show together (so, basically together from around 4:45 til after the show). We are always running in different directions at home, and NEVER have sit down dinners together at home, so this is a nice part of the "family" vacation for us. And the kids have been very cooperative about this on all our cruises; they know the "rule" ahead of time and don't argue about it.:cloud9:

Man, I sound so strict! It's funny, I'm so strict on some things in life, and so relaxed on others! Wanna go racing down a mountain on your bike or skateboard, fine by me! Wanna skip family dinner on the cruise? No way!

Jen - black and white is fine. Thank you for doing this.

Love the vest!!

QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WITH KIDS ON THE CRUISE AGED 8 AND UP?

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card. Have not talk to DH about this yet. The jury is still out.

If so do you tell them there is a limit? I think so

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out? Even though this is our first cruise we will allow our 9 almost 10 yr old check out as she will probably with her sister who will be almost 13

Do you have a Kids contract for the cruise? IE Do not play with elevators, do not go in other peoples rooms, do not stay up beyond 12 midnight? meeting point at set times during the day, do not over eat?

Great ideas. Had not thought that far ahead. Like the ideas.

Do you take your kids on shore trips or allow them to go on teenage ones or stay on ship? They will not be allowed to go anywhere without us off the ship.

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner.
It depends on how the cruise goes. If we meet the kids and parents and everything seems fine it MAY be a possibility. However would like to keep it as much as family time if possible.

MINE

Hey I actually was able to respond to several at a time. Thanks:banana::love:

Thank you for responses and also nice pictures of Magic

Since we are asking questions...I will ask some that will help me (and possibly others) with budgeting:

1. How much does a smoothie cost? Are there other treats kids/teens like to buy and how much does that cost?

2. Do you let your kids play video games? Do they cost money? How much would you let your kids budget for? (I would like to say no video games but will check into it for them).

3. What are some of the extras you pay for on the ship and (if you don't mind sharing)...how much do you budget for?

4. I know about tipping for the main group (stateroom host, server, etc), who else do you tip for the cruise? People with your luggage (when and how much)? Room service? Anyone else?

Feel free to add any other information about what you budget for while on the cruise.

Jen

Since we are asking questions...I will ask some that will help me (and possibly others) with budgeting:

1. How much does a smoothie cost? Are there other treats kids/teens like to buy and how much does that cost?
I cannot remember the exact cost but its around $3.75 + auto tip 15% if you buy the tinket bell or pirate light with it, its more.
2. Do you let your kids play video games? Do they cost money? How much would you let your kids budget for? (I would like to say no video games but will check into it for them).
In the arcade you purchase an arcade card, from your KTTW Card, they have different options to load, and you get more vlaue for money on the higher ones $20 $25 than lower $10.
3. What are some of the extras you pay for on the ship and (if you don't mind sharing)...how much do you budget for?
I will add a list of possible extras at the bottom, I have pre paid standard tips, pre paid a wine package, and have $900 On board credit to cover shore trips, Palo, and Palo tip expected. I always go over budget as I do not know what they have in the shops, and if we will buy photos, the packages are the best value. My bill for Panama was $2.5k with two shore trips not on that as they were private, the Med was $1.5k, but thats only with two DCL trips and 5 private tours.Thse included tips and photos, shop purchase wine and kids smoothies Pin purchases ( a lot) and arcade.
4. I know about tipping for the main group (stateroom host, server, etc), who else do you tip for the cruise? People with your luggage (when and how much)? Room service? Anyone else?
Luggage $1>$2 per bag to the porters outside and inside the port, Room service $1>$2 per item, can do cash or charge on that. Tip spa and also shore trips
Feel free to add any other information about what you budget for while on the cruise.

Jen

Just catching up a little bit...

Of the snack places, as this is your first cruise try Goofy;s galley, it has a great selection of Panini, Pasta, sandwiches, fruit, etc (all cooked to order where required). Its slightly more of a healthy option.

Pluto's is basically like a small fast food place, think McDonald's, and so is the pizza place, you can do this anywhere, so try only if you really want it.

Topsiders is great for Breakfast and Lunch, and at least ones order room service, all hands on deck ( cheese) Mickey bars, and Cake.

QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WITH KIDS ON THE CRUISE AGED 8 AND UP?

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card. Not unless I feel the urge to explore bankruptcy !:scared1:

If so do you tell them there is a limit? This concept of limits never worked on their mother ??

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out?My twins will be 7 and would not subject the rest of the passengers to the possibility.

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner.
They don't have to, if there is something at the kids club more interesting they are free to go.

Hey as you like these, questions and thought provoking plans for the cruise here are some more>

High-ImpactInterviewQuestions.jpg

1. Will you use the internet on ship, if so package of time, or pay as you go.

2. Will you try to see a Disney film on board, if so what one, new/old, and in the Buena Vista, on the goofy pool large screen, or the premier, in the WD Theatre.

3. Will you go to any other entertainment other than the main shoes, i.e. Studio Sea, Beat Street, with Rocking bar D or Diversions? Will you want to see some sport?

4. What food do you wish to try for the first time on the cruise?

5. Do you know Port and Starboard, forward, aft, and midship, and what a tender is? Or do you or someone in your family get lost somewhere.

6. Will you rebook onboard if so for what cruise.

7. Will you purchase a photo package, or single photos, formal pics, or bring your own only.

8. Will you get to port early/late, and if early try to get a Palo slot or change dinner early/late rotation?

9. What’s your favourite main show? Or if a new cruiser, what’s the one you want to see the most?

10. Non DCL, Tell us something about you that we do not know already, something special.

MINE

1. Will you use the internet on ship, if so package of time, or pay as you go.

On all of my cruises I have paid for a large package and still gone over the time limit, I will bring a laptop, but plan this time not to use it for the internet on ship, just upload photos; I have free internet access for the 10 days after at the villa. So I can check in for my flights home there.

2. Will you try to see a Disney film on board, if so what one, new/old, and in the Buena Vista, on the goofy pool large screen, or the premier, in the WD Theatre.

Not sure what’s on, but we always try to see the latest, often the USA is in front of the UK from a week or so to 3 months. So let me know what’s on.

3. Will you go to any other entertainment other than the main shoes, i.e. Studio Sea, Beat Street, with Rocking bar D or Diversions? Will you want to see some sport?

This is a plan this time as I haven’t been there too much myself but have seen the shows.

4. What food do you wish to try for the first time on the cruise?

Well they have new menus I will avoid the mushrooms too much and the fish sea food, so basically is meat, pasta and Duck

5. Do you know Port and Starboard, forward, aft, and midship, and what a tender is? Or do you or someone in your family get lost somewhere.

I have always been very good getting around, often my DW, takes 14 nights to work it out, even though she has been on ship 60 days+, I and the kids go one way she goes the opposite way.
Port (left 4 letters) Starboard Right, Forward, front, Aft-back, ok you get it.

6. Will you rebook onboard if so for what cruise.

I think I will, to secure a 10% discount but the 2011, trips do not inspire me and so we might say bye bye DCL (Till there back in Europe in 2012)

7. Will you purchase a photo package, or single photos, formal pics, or bring your own only.

Yes package but we always get the wrong one for sizes!

8. Will you get to port early/late, and if early try to get a Palo slot or change dinner early/late rotation?

I plan to get there about 11am, we have Chef Mickey’s at 7am at the Contemporary, and then after that, packing and driving to PC, it will be that time

9. What’s your favourite main show? Or if a new cruiser, what’s the one you want to see the most?

As I have seen them all, at least 5 times each, I must say I prefer the ‘entertainment shows more, just hope we have a new entertainer, this is where you miss a repo cruise as you get more entertainment there.

10 Well some of you may know I like Science fiction programmes, and shows like Doctor Who and Torchwood, I like food, and my favourite destination for a holiday is……………………. Lindos in Rhodes, Greece. Where I am going again in 2010 for my 7th time.

Jen the big thing we budget for on the cruise is photos. I am a scrapbooker (it is one of my jobs as well as a hobby) and photos are a must for me. I figure that I don't smoke, rarely drink these days so no expensive vices therefore I don't mind spending money on photos. :) I have budgeted for the most expensive combo package and then I will be sure to have enough - I may well take the mid price one in the end but I like to make sure that for the things that are really important to us I have it well covered.

Obviously there are tips to take into account. I try to budget more than the basic suggested amount for tips, then it is there for if someone goes above and beyond expectations.

Ooops, I have been typing this reply for ages (well I started just after you posted and got side tracked so I guess you will have had lots of useful answers already!

At your kids ages, the photos will be priceless, to see their joy at Mickey, and hugging a character its so spacial so the photos are well worth it, wait until you get a few at Shutters, and then choose a package.

I remember when DS Stephen was 18 months old and hugged Pooh bear, for the first time, he went in there, and didn't come out for 5 mins.

Also Chef Mickeys, we gave Stephen some milk in a bottle, Chip came by, and took over, he stayed until the bottle was empty, Chip got so behind, seeing other kids. Now Chip then remembered him in the MK park later that day, Spooky........... I would have thought he would have had a personality change, but he let us know by mime its the ''same'' Chip.

Now Chip still is one of Stephens favs.
They grow up so quickly then its not mickey anymore, its spend spend spend.

NOW MEL,

I will get myself in hot water on this so over to you.....

ASK THE LADIES WHAT THEY WILL WEAR! I will be on very unsafe ground there, so over to you!

We've had a busy few days here so I've been hit and run on the boards. Not much time for extended posts (but I'll make up for that here!).

Jen, we've definitely budgeted for the Shutter pictures. I was blown away at how great the family shots were on our first cruise. We are also allowing both kids a certain amount (TBD) on an arcade card. They have been doing extra chores for months and saving money for this. And once we knew we were going on the cruise, my parents (snowbirds in FL) have periodically sent them cards with Disney dollars for good report cards etc - it is starting to add up...we have already allocated for tips too. And have a coin bucket at home that we throw loose change in. We'll roll all the money from it and that will be our $1 room service tip money (Kevin's favorite part of the cruise! :goodvibes)

Mel - I am sooo envious of your scrapbooking skills. And the time commitment it takes to sit down and coordinate them.

And it seems that I must have missed a few posts. here are my answers to Andrew's questions...

Do you allow your kids to charge on their KTTW Card. Nope. All charges have to have mom and dad’s approval.

If so do you tell them there is a limit? They both have a budget and have to stay within that budget for their souvenirs.

If aged 8 to 10 do you allow them to self check in/out? No, even though DD will be 9….Haven't told her yet though...:rolleyes1

Do you have a Kids contract for the cruise? IE Do not play with elevators, do not go in other peoples rooms, do not stay up beyond 12 midnight? meeting point at set times during the day, do not over eat? We have discussed rules but didn’t formalize them in a contract. I also made my DS14 watch the youtube video of kids behaving badly on a Diney cruise to show what would cause me to blow a gasket. While he’s a well behaved kid, I don’t want the teenage crowd/peer pressure mentality to take control… :scared1:

Do you take your kids on shore trips or allow them to go on teenage ones or stay on ship? Right now we are all scheduled together. The only one that might change is if DS decides to do the teen adventure one on Castaway cay. Any other teens out there doing this one?? .

Do they 'have to' eat with you? say Dinner. Eating dinner together is a must and is non-negotiable. We are travelling with my SIL and family and the plan is that the families will do what works best for them during the day and we’ll all meet up at dinner. (one caveat to this – the adults get one meal at Palo!!) Plus, like other families with busy kids and parents, we don’t always get to sit down together for dinner together. This is our second cruise and our family dinners were a highlight of the cruise..

. Will you use the internet on ship, if so package of time, or pay as you go. Going internet-free for 7 days…yikes!!

2. Will you try to see a Disney film on board, if so what one, new/old, and in the Buena Vista, on the goofy pool large screen, or the premier, in the WD Theatre. You bet. DD09 wants to see UP, and maybe the Hannah Montana movie again (from which my DS14 will run away as far as possible!). We liked watching the movies on the Jumbotron at night – kind of like a drive in movie without the car!

3. Will you go to any other entertainment other than the main shoes, i.e. Studio Sea, Beat Street, with Rocking bar D or Diversions? Will you want to see some sport? We will try. We missed a lot of the adult entertainment on our first cruise and are hoping to do a little more on this one…

4. What food do you wish to try for the first time on the cruise? I am not an adventurous eater but would like to try something new at least once during the cruise. I’m not familiar with the menus so I’ll just wing it.

5. Do you know Port and Starboard, forward, aft, and midship, and what a tender is? Or do you or someone in your family get lost somewhere. Normally I can get lost in a phone booth but for some reason have no problem on the ship….

6. Will you rebook onboard if so for what cruise. I don’t think so. It will probably be a few years before our next cruise.

7. Will you purchase a photo package, or single photos, formal pics, or bring your own only. Definitely purchase a package. The family pictures were fantastic – better than I have seen at some professional photographers at home. We’ll also have our own camera for informal shots.

8. Will you get to port early/late, and if early try to get a Palo slot or change dinner early/late rotation? We will get there early. Even though DH was online at midnight for Palo brunch reservations he kept receiving an “error’ message. And, of course, there is no help desk available at midnight to assist. And there was nothing left by morning. Hopefully we'll be able to get something!!

If I missed something I'll add some more later!

LOL Andrew ok I will post some ladies attire questions but first here are my answers to your last lot:

1. Will you use the internet on ship, if so package of time, or pay as you go.

I will try not to. We have internet access post cruise at the villa but if I do check online whilst onboard it will be a quick email home and a sneaky check on the business website to check that in my absence my Mum has been nice and busy sending out orders!

2. Will you try to see a Disney film on board, if so what one, new/old, and in the Buena Vista, on the goofy pool large screen, or the premier, in the WD Theatre.

I saw The Princess Diaries on my last DCL cruise which was fun. I may catch a film with Izzy or possibly a late one if there is one Darren is not interested in that I want to see.

3. Will you go to any other entertainment other than the main shoes, i.e. Studio Sea, Beat Street, with Rocking bar D or Diversions? Will you want to see some sport?

I doubt it, well not in the evening as with the little ones Olivia certainly won't cope with endless really late nights and there is only so much Flounders time I want to book her in for!

4. What food do you wish to try for the first time on the cruise?
I have never eaten Scallops and I may well give that a try...

5. Do you know Port and Starboard, forward, aft, and midship, and what a tender is? Or do you or someone in your family get lost somewhere.
Yep, I think I have that sorted.

6. Will you rebook onboard if so for what cruise.
I will probably book a dummy date. I REALLY wanted to do the Baltic in 2010 but it was out of our price range coming just one year after this trip. I am lucky to have had the choice whether or not to return to work full time after having the children and we both opted for me to be at home most of the time - that is great but the downside is with only one full time wage holidays are a more limited commodity!

7. Will you purchase a photo package, or single photos, formal pics, or bring your own only.
Yes, as per my previous post I know I will spend most of my additional expenses on photos.

8. Will you get to port early/late, and if early try to get a Palo slot or change dinner early/late rotation?
Early - I want to try the pools before it gets too crowded.

9. What’s your favourite main show? Or if a new cruiser, what’s the one you want to see the most?
I loved Disney Dreams. I have never seen Twice Charmed and am looking forward to that.

10. Non DCL, Tell us something about you that we do not know already, something special.
I was once on the UK TV show called "You Bet!" hosted by a minor and very arrogant celebrity called Darren Day. I was part of a sports team on there. The programme featured people doing various challenges (sports \ knowledge \ memory etc...) and a panel of celebrities who bet on whether they would win the challenge! We were doing a Tchoukball challenge (don't ask just google it!) and despite completing the challenge easily in rehearsals we failed because the director cut 30 second off our time to make it more difficult! (Can you tell I am still bitter about it!)

Hey as you like these, questions and thought provoking plans for the cruise here are some more>

1. Will you use the internet on ship, if so package of time, or pay as you go.
Will need to use it at least once to check in online for our flight home

2. Will you try to see a Disney film on board, if so what one, new/old, and in the Buena Vista, on the goofy pool large screen, or the premier, in the WD Theatre.
I love movies so I'll see them anywhere-ArielVision, Buena Vista theater...I guess it depends on what's playing and what else is going on. If nothing that interests us is going on in Rockin D then we may hit a movie.

3. Will you go to any other entertainment other than the main shoes, i.e. Studio Sea, Beat Street, with Rocking bar D or Diversions? Will you want to see some sport?
Love Rockin D, always say we should spend more time in Diversions-definately last night for Pub Night with crew staff, it's become a Do Not Miss for us.

4. What food do you wish to try for the first time on the cruise?
The infamous chicken fingers from Plutos, Paninis from Goofys Galley

5. Do you know Port and Starboard, forward, aft, and midship, and what a tender is? Or do you or someone in your family get lost somewhere.
I am known to head in the wrong direction but usually realize my misstep quickly

6. Will you rebook onboard if so for what cruise.
Not planning to unless then announce a new itinerary or start booking new ship

7. Will you purchase a photo package, or single photos, formal pics, or bring your own only.
YES-usually the biggest one. It's my splurge

8. Will you get to port early/late, and if early try to get a Palo slot or change dinner early/late rotation?
Early-we like to open the place or get there as close to 10am

9. What’s your favourite main show? Or if a new cruiser, what’s the one you want to see the most?
Disney Dreams

10. Non DCL, Tell us something about you that we do not know already, something special.
Hmmm....I'm a cub scout leader and help run our pack (DH is Cubmaster, but I do most of the work), Love Food Network, Love to bake and I'm looking for my purpose (Kind of a joke between DH and I).
