Believe it or not...I'm allergic to those

Most of them are made of latex and latex gives he itchy hives.

Foam/rubber/latex/plastic, it's all the same. Elastic, spandex and gum are even on my list of no-no's.

Well, then, I guess you are excused from wearing one We wouldn't want you to be itchy hivey on your cruise.

Mandy, we are flying into Orlando on Saturday, April 22 and renting a car. We are travelling with an older couple (the husband is 84). We are going to deliver them to a timeshare near Lakeland Florida and then my husband and I are returning to Orlando to stay at the Comfort Suite Lake Buenavista for 4 nights.

We got a great rate there of $47 for the first three nights and 44 for the fourth. We are going to do some resort hopping at Disney and maybe Downtown Disney. We also have plusses left on our hopper passes and are going to check out the waterparks. We usually go in January and it's not generally warm enough then. Then whatever else we find to do to fill in the time.

On Wednesday we are moving over to Lakeland Florida area for a remote control model airplane competition. While we are over there we plan to go to Cypress Gardens and maybe a few other smaller places. Most of the time will be taken up with the airplane event.

We fly back with the older couple on Monday May 1. We are travelling with them so that they can get to the airplane competition easier and more stressfree.

It will be a different type of Florida vacation but we are looking forward to it.

I agree with Colleen, that does sound like a more relaxing trip, which I bet will make a lovely change, I hope you have a great time

Sorry to hear that you're allergic to them, although you would be instantly recognisable with all your itching and hives, I think that may be a bit extreme

What to do in Nassau

We are going on our first cruise in July 2007 ( yes, I have a while to make any decision!). We are on a 4 night cruise and have looked at the excursions on Nassau, and none of them really excite us. We were considering staying on the boat and enjoying the pools, etc. while they weren't so crowded. But then it seems a shame to be at Nassau and not even go see it a bit. Ideally, we would like to go to a beach for a couple of hours and then maybe do a little shopping. What is the shopping like? How far are the beaches and how do you get there? How for is the shopping area? Can we get off and on the boat whenever we want? If the kids don't want to shop, can we leave them in one of the clubs on the boat without us ( they will be 8, 10, 12 and 15 at the time)? Any suggestions on what we might do?

Pirates museum is a great thing to do with the ages of yourkids they'd probably like it, especailly since the pirate party is that night. It is located 2 blocks behind the straw market in a large purple building. It was $12 per adult, dont know charge for kids. allow an hour, maybe a little longer.
It was really good. Also welike the horse and carriage rides byt he port. $10 per perosn about 20 to 25 minutes long. It is noisy as you ride right through town, but you will get to see some of the town that way and experience something new at the same time.
I agree you should get off for a little while after going all that way. experience a little bit of a different culture.

The shopping is right off the boat. Same stuff as any other port. We were done pretty fast. We did the excursion of the glass bottom boat and did not see anything for the price. We are thinking the next time we are going to take a taxi over to the Wyndham Hotel. I have heard that you can use their facilities for free. One trip we wented a room at the comfort inn next to atlantis and were able to use atlantis' facilities however a room there cost $200 and only 4 to a room.

Colleen- Sorry to hear about the latex allergy. It gets quite difficult to avoid at times. Erasers, for example, often times have latex, older matchbox cars and barbies, the adhesives to some cheaper brand band-aids. The list just goes on and on. I don't know any specifics about the Mickey bands but my son has some TKD ones that are silicone. Some are latex, and I had to search high and lo to find silicone. Yes, my son has a latex allergy too. It is considered very mild but we have controlled his exposure since he was about 4 months old to hopefully prevent it from getting worse. Kayla also has trouble with latex gloves when working.


We went to the Bangor Garden Show yesturday and I was soooo disappointed. The displays weren't practical. There were a lot of tropical plants used in outdoor settings. They were pretty and all, but I live in zone 5...nearly zone 4, so I have no use for tropical plants and trees outside. Also, they didn't have a photo contest this year which my husband and spend more time browsing then the garden displays. To top it all off, I headed out to the verndors to buy this amazing sugar-free blueberry jam, (jam is not a good description for this stuff) and that particular vendor was not there, I have purchased this stuff at the garden show for the last 5 yrs! I had to find someone and list all my complaints, they each sent me on to someone else saying they had nothing to do with planing the events or vendors or anything, so as far as I can tell, it must have been a figment of my imagination....because NO ONE was responsible, it couldn't have happened!
We went to supper at the 99. That made up for it some. We love the toasted ravioli there.

Five hours isn't too bad but that means you both were up rediculously early like me

I've printed out a list from the latex allergy association (more like a book) and it's crazy how many things contain it or a derivative of it. My allergy doctor keeps yelling at me cause I still don't wear a medic alert bracelet. Her concern is if there's a medical emergency and I need a throat tube my throat could swell from it and make things worse.

Plastic, rubber, foam & latex are all on the list of no-no's.

I have to put towels down on the lawn chairs. Any clothing I wear that has elastic, the elastic has to be wrapped in cotton-IOW can't be exposed to my skin. Most flip flops are out, poor me I can only wear leather sandals

I've gotten used to it but sometimes a challenge pops up...like a shampoo I was using recently actually had a gelatin in it that was making me break out all over. I dealt with it for a week before I realized it was my shampoo causing my hives

Our TKer Ann is allergic to shellfish...we have to remember that during the cruise. Apparantly she can have a reaction if we touch it and then touch her.

Morning all, well, later morning than the rest of you guys were hanging around here

We know tons about allergies in this house too. My son has an anaphylactic (life threatening) allergy to peanuts. He carries around 2 Epipens with him at all times. He has never had to use them though and his allergy does not rule his life. He travels, eats out a lot and just carries on with his life despite his allergy. I always said, the peanuts might get him some day but he was going to live his life to the fullest point until that happens.

The really strange thing is that other than a few small reactions he has been fine for years. I don't know if he is just good at avoiding them or if his allergy has lessened over the years

He has a problem with the latex powdered gloves too and must have non latex unpowdered gloves.

Ann will be safe from shellfish with me
