Has there been any news about what will happen to 7DMT after Tron becomes an ILL$ attraction? Following past precedent we could maybe expect it to move to regular genie+….

They haven't said anything. They *could* have 2 ILL$ rides, but to this date they haven't since they changed over to 1 per park. They started out at 2 per park, though, so it's certainly possible they could go back to that.

I’ve wondered the same and figured they will let MK have 2 ILLs. Unlike the other 3 parks MK has plenty of G+ inventory. Even if 7DMT and TRON go to ILL, G+ still has Space Mtn and Thunder Mtn. TRON likely to have VQ up to Oct as well. Just my guesses here.

They just lost splash though.

Still, G+ has a healthy inventory without it. I was surprised how many people reported buying ILL for 7DMT. That’s a nice stack of easy cash for MK. Paying $14 to easily knock it out often saves guests the much higher costs to revisit MK beyond 1 day.

I'm going to guess it will go to Genie+. With the tone of recent comments about moderating the extra costs a bit more - I think they may wish to stick with one per park. I think Slinky Dog has comparatively higher demand and is a similar family coaster and isn't $ILL (although to be fair - they have more of a capacity issue in DHS).

I never thought 7D ever belonged as a $ILL to begin with based on the nature of the ride but was really the only logical choice in the park as the newest high demand ride. (Having Space Mountain as one - an over 40 year old ride - was just outrageous . . .)

If I were the decision maker, I would leave 7DMT as a $ILL$ ...

1) MK has TONS of rides that Genie+ can be used on, more than any of the other parks. It is a good value there even without 7DMT.

2) TRON is a great addition for the 48" and over guest .. a full 10" difference from 7DMT's 38". There will still be a huge market for the 7DMT ILL.

3) The 7DTM ILL is a busy line even though it is a pay queue. The SB is still consistently over an hour wait. A huge reason to buy the ILL.

4) Monetizing the lines is for Disney's benefit, not the Guests. WHY would they give up a really good money maker? ~ kids want to ride, parents don't want to wait in that line.

5) Taking down SM will not factor because in Disney's eyes they added Tron, which has a higher capacity.

6) When ILL started MK had two, Space & 7DMT. There is precedence. I think now that Genie+ is solidly established and guests are budgeting for it, no need to bait them with adding a ride.

BUT as usual we won't know until Disney announces AND actually implements.

The counterpoint to all of this is that Genie+ still has absolutely horrific gsat scores, and moving 7dmt to a genie+ could help with that, ever so slightly, especially with Splash gone. If Disney only cares about maximizing short-term profits at the continued expense of brand destruction, then you’re probably right. I hope you’re not. Iger seems to want to take things in a different direction than Paycheck.

I don't think that Disney considers Genie+ a failure, and by looking at the constantly busy Lightning Lanes there are plenty of guests who are purchasing it ~ especially at Magic Kingdom and Studios. Yes, lots here and in the know complain, but for most in those parks it is just something they have to deal with ... and they see the price vs Universal so they buy it.

I really don't think they are looking at this program as a short term profit program. They started planning for this at least 5 years ago, I think they planned it for the long term. Surely it is generating them big profits because it has minimal cost to provide. Going back to FP+ is not going to happen (sadly) and if they fix the Genie+ to operate more like FP+ did, I think sales will go up. Only change I see is some slight adjustments to the program.

I do agree that Iger wants to go in a different direction, BUT Iger was CEO when Genie+ was developed and announced. IGER signed off on it. It is an Iger program.

AND many issues he is likely looking at are not involving the parks or hotels, Disney+ is not where they had hoped and where is the movie industry going? Honestly he doesn't have to do too much to the parks/resorts as they are very busy and occupancy is good.

I’m not saying they’re getting rid of Genie+. However, what can’t be disputed is that GSAT for Genie+ is still terrible. Just because tons of people use it doesn’t mean that tons of people can’t also hate it. These dismal GSAT’s have been confirmed by multiple disney insiders. Disney can and has changed the system several times to try to improve the user experience.

Not trying to be a smart aleck but the first thing I thought of when you say they have changed the system several times ......

- Disney removed the ability to prepurchase Genie+ for length of stay
- Disney now forces guests to purchase Genie+ daily
- Disney added dynamic pricing now making Genie+ more costly

None of that has improved the user experience at all - but they have made modifying easier, which is a plus and should have been part of the original design. If it were I think there would have been less outrage.

And one of those changes could be to go back to the original lineup of 2 ILL per park, especially MK. It can handle it just fine, and I don't think 7DMT can handle Genie+ unless they severely limit the numbers, which brings more complaints. I wouldn't be surprised if DHS does as well if Rock N Roller Coaster gets a surprise retheme.

We’ve never felt the need to purchase ILL for 7D. Waiting until close to closing time is a pretty consistent guarantee of a 10 minute or less wait. Our longest wait ever using this strategy was 20 minutes during opening weekend in 2014.

Of course the dollars saved just go to the gift shops anyway.

And on many nights if you do this at MK you don’t even miss the fireworks.

Yeah same here. We didn’t really need ILLs by hitting them open/close or EEH instead, so it was surprising to see so many reports of people using them and finding it worthwhile. And it made sense. Either they didn’t have alot of park time or didn’t want to hit rope drop or stay late. The ILLs usually made a big difference in how their day went. Very convenient.

No kidding. On our most recent visit, the park closed at 11 with fireworks at 9.

After fireworks, we had time for Pooh, Big Thunder, Splash Mtn, the Carousel, 7 Dwarves and also met the Princesses (Cinderella and Snow White). That’s a pretty good use of an hour and a half.

Pooh was the only one that we had G+. We were about 3 hours late for the reservation window but they were still happy to let us in.

One "precedent" that no one has mentioned is what happened at Disneyland resort. They were down to one ILL per park. same as WDW, after Webslingers moved from being an ILL to Genie+ Then they opened Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway as an ILL and Disneyland was up to two ILLs.

We have a trip planned for November. We visited WDW in 2019 the week before Thangsgiving and it was extremely crowded. We are going the week after Thanksgiving this year when crowds are predicted to be a little lower than the rest of November. In 2019, before GENIE+ or early entry, I was unable to get fastpass for SDMT as it was a last minute trip. We rope dropped MK and walked with the crowd to SDMT and was on it in less than ten minutes. I always plan MK day for early in our vacation so that getting up early and rope dropping is easy. The later in the trip it gets, the more we want to sleep in. I have decided to utilize resort guest early entry and rope drop SDMT again under the assumption that it will be converted to Genie+. I would imagine that non resort guests are at a disadvantage for SDMT both for rope drop and ILL. GIVIN that all guests can book Genie+ at 7:00 am the playing field may be leveled out a little if SDMT is converted to Genie+. My plan is to use our first genie + for PPF since we don’t usually care to ride the Jungle Cruise. I guess we will see how it goes. I have always like to tour MK one land at a time starting with Tomorrowland and I like having a general touring plan not necessarily to maximize rides but to ride and enjoy and absorb each lands theming. Usually taking a rope drop to 3 pm day and another night or Christmas party to finish. Genie+ is giving me anxiety about my ability to relax and enjoy our vacation. It’s actually caused me to post pone it once already!

Even after Tron opens, I don't think the demand for 7DMT will drop much. If that holds true, I would expect them to leave it as ILL$ just from a revenue point of view. They gain nothing by moving it to Genie + and as noted there already are a LOT of Genie + rides in MK.

Yep. The only reason they took the #2 ILLs away was because Genie+ was getting alot of bad press and likely lots of Guest Service’s time spent and refunds issued costing Disney too much money and headaches. Since that time Genie+ has been tweaked 3 big ways: cannot purchase before trip or entire trip, dynamic pricing, and purchase cap added. All of this has helped the image and functionality of Genie+. MK was the one park that never really had a problem, but having an old ride like Space Mtn as ILL was bad for optics (I’d bet it was far behind sales of the rest).

There isn’t much reason to move 7DMT to G+ so why would WDW give up that money? From this board you can see most people don’t care about it being ILL because there’s still good strategies to ride without paying. On other boards people seem happy being able to buy the convenience.
