Come on, it's James Cameron. The first Avatar was the same. It's his thing. Visual effects spectacles and a repeat of the storyline in Fern Gully. 🤣

Yep. I put Cameron movies in the John Wick category. Avatar 1 was 'Dances with Smurfs', and Avatar 2 was bit of 'The Bible', and throw in some Luke/Vader Star Wars stuff ... but it's Cameron! The guy delivers and darn if I'm not entertained

100%, the dude just puts on a show you want to go watch.

It's really simple......they respected the past. They didn't find the need to tell you how crappy all the old cast was in order to make the new cast look better. The young girl loved her grandfather's work and had a genuine infatuation with what he did.

The didn't see the need to humiliate those that came before them to prop us the current cast. They all worked hand in hand literally in the end to defeat the foe.

Nearly a perfect film to heal the fanbase after the 2016 debacle.

But, didn't they make Egon out to be pretty crappy? His daughter certainly hated him.

I have to quote myself here because I'm just baffled that anyone can think that Black Panther, a story in which an African nation hides from the rest of the world because they don't want to be taken over, doesn't have an agenda.
To an extent, every movie has an agenda. This sudden reaction tells me that certain movies 100% could not be released today without there being an outrage. Imagine Wall-e, a movie where the main message is that it is the fault of billion dollar corporations that the world collapses, released in 2023.

I often say this. EVERY movie has a message. Sometimes that message though is very simple. People typically only notice the message when they don't agree with it.

I never watched WALL*E until recently, and I was gobsmacked it came out with little to no pushback about "agendas." Same with Zootopia, which wasn't that long ago.

Why do you think he wasn't "admired?" I think it's clear that he was by many people . He wasn't even divorced, though it was pending. What in Indiana Jones's previous character portrayal makes you think that's some super-unlikely outcome? He's not exactly a paragon of virtue when it comes to relationships. He might even be a little difficult to like. Should he just be perfect all the time? That'd make for a real good movie. I really can't understand why you see all this stuff is some kind of slight against the characters.
I don't think any of it was particularly wrong, but just incredibly predictable. Can't let the man simply be happily married from the last movie with a loving wife, and a student body that hangs on his every word. He has to be a failure and a deadbeat that gives up and wants to stay in another timeline. Had he stayed he would have basically erased himself completely. However, the much wiser PWB throws a haymaker ..... knocks him out cold..........and does what is right.......because she knew better.

After what Rian and KK did to Luke........I would say it was incredibly predictable.

Yep. And there's a cottage industry of outrage merchants who make a living off stoking anger to generate clicks and people with existing grievances who are happy to stay mired in the muck with them. So now every movie goes through that lens.

I miss having Pixar do films about non-humans as they did with anthropomorphic monsters, fish, cars, toys, rats, and bugs. Those older Pixar films had diverse voice actors with different races, ages, accents, and political views.

I also miss Brad Bird, Andrew Stanton, and John Lasseter as directors or writers. Those three seem to hit home runs with most of their films.

How on Earth was he a "failure and a deadbeat." Where do you even get that? He took a job at a smalller college to settle down a bit. The newer students were more enchanted with space than archeology - that was no knock on him! Sure, it's a little tropey to show an older man living in the shadow of past glories, but it's not a denegration of his character at all.

Also, did Helena do the "right thing?" She did the selfish thing certainly. Should an 80 year old man have been able to laugh off the punch?

Identical to the comics that many of us read, though. What's not to understand about that? Now casting Black Panther as a white dude would be seen as a controversy, right?

Didn't watch the second one, so my comments are about the first one. Haven't been very interested in many of the newer Marvel stuff, all looks pretty stupid to me.
