73 days to go and still no return flight booked

I am starting to panic, what is going on with airfare?? We normally fly Southwest in and out of Chicago but the rates are horrible. I keep hoping for some kind of sale but the most recent one totally skipped our June/July dates and went from spring straight into fall! We got a great rate flying down on Allegiant but we are flying into Clearwater to spend a couple of days at the beach before our trip and using Allegiant to get home isn't really an option since they only fly out of Sanford and the times just don't work out.

Do you think there will be anything better than what's being offered right now or should I just bite the bullet and book now before prices get higher?

Book Southwest out of MCO since you can change it or rebook it without any penalties.

We leave May 11th and I didn't book airfare until last week! We changed our dates only a couple of months out, and I kept putting off rebooking the flights because the prices were so high. I panicked last week because we were getting so close and bought at higher fares than we've ever paid. Of course yesterday morning the flights I had bought came down from 165 each way to 149 one way and 109 the other!! Thank goodness it was Southwest and we were able to get a credit.

Ya I do love Southwest for that very reason and if we get a credit it's a great excuse to take another trip!

It used to be that airfare would go down closer to the travel date but that definitely doesn't seem to be the norm anymore.

If it helps, the cheaper fares I booked yesterday morning were gone by yesterday afternoon. So they were out there but not for long.
