Is she excited?
We flew once and sat next to a parent free 8 year old girl. That started crying as soon as the plane backed out onto the runway- I don't know if they paid for any "supervision" but she sure wasn't getting any.
It broke my heart and I started talking to her. I broke out some paper I had in my purse. And a pen(this was prekids now I am like felix the cat with what I can pull out of my purse)
But we drew, played the boxes game.
I think the flight attendents put her next to us on purpose. I guess I looked safe and friendly?
So let's hope they do that for your daughter.
I would familiarize her with what will happen on the plane. The noises that she'll hear, the things they will show her- like the safety precautions(hearing about floatation devices can scare someone thinking are we going into the water?) You say that you have not flown in a while so I am assuming neither has she.
For the plane how about packing things in little packages- so she won't break into them all at once. Like This one is for take off- and put in her gum, maybe a book? then another for when you are up in the air.
Will there be tv's onboard(like jetblue?) or a movie- if so make sure she has money to buy headphones.
A DS was our entertainment on our last flight with a new game. It kept my 5 year old going. Oh and sticker books.
Good luck!
