Hi all,

We will be staying at the GCH for half of our upcoming trip. In our room is me, DH, our two boys (11 and 8), and my mom. My ILs will be in another room. My MIL suggested the other day that we do a half day cabana rental. However, we are a party of 7 and I know the limit is supposed to be 6.

I've read through some older threads that say people should get more cabanas if they have larger groups, because it can be disturbing to other guests, but these were groups of ten and 14. I highly doubt we won't all be able to sit in there and that the presence of my 8 yo is going to cause us to spill into someone else's cabana :rotfl:

Anyway, what do you think? Renting 2 cabanas sounds silly to me for our group, so if they're strict on it, we probably just won't do it. I just don't know what to expect. Thanks!

Is this like stuffing people into a Jeep or phone booth to set a new Guinness Book of World Records? In which case, ye be needin' more bodies. Saying that because my cousin Vinny Deluco attempted that same feat during his last visit at the Grand, which by the way, his family likes to refer to the GCH as just that because it costs them almost a grand per night. Anyway, so he took his family and squashed them all in their cabana to set a new record, well it would have worked if they could have stayed in their for the necessary duration, I think it was something like 5 minutes, but he didn't listen to me when I told him it would be a major mistake to stuff granny Jean in there because of her weak bladder and that she refuses to wear her depends! And did he want a repeat episode of when they last went on a road trip. But no, alas he did not pay attention to my words! So, the next thing you know, not more than one and a half minutes into it, granny decides she needed to go to the toiety, even though she had just been to said toiety! So she climbs out from under my tiny cousins, not Vinny, he's a big Italian dude, anyway, my kid cousins, then takes off for the closest bano, leaving everyone in the non record breaking dust! Man.....not pretty seeing a 50 year old otherwise macho Italian stallion crying like little girl.

How long has this been the rule? We rented a cabana back in 2011
but they were fine with our party of 10! :rolleyes1
Although everyone was not INSIDE the cabana at the same time...some were on a lounge chair in front of cabana! :teacher:
So I think 7 should not be an issue!

I've been hanging around these boards a long time, and this is easily the most surreal post I have ever read. This is serious art...

yes, I'm not sure i quite get it either. :confused3:rotfl: definitely not interested in stuffing people in like sausages--just trying to figure out if there will be an issue with 7 people, 2 of whom are kids and who will be in the pool for the majority of the time, anyway.

I know last year, they requested all names for the cabana, then the attendant checked off everyone when we were there. We have 10 this year, and have 2 cabanas.

I guess I am a rule follower. If the rule is no more than 6 people in a cabana, why are you asking if you could have 7 people? With children in the party that is even more reason to follow the rules and not discount them.

So what NOW is the limit of people per cabana? 5 or 7? :listen:
So restrictive considering there's only 4 or 5 cabanas for use? :rolleyes1

The limit is 6, which was in the Disney press release when they added the cabanas. There are 6 cabanas for rent. They weren't intended to be all inclusive, everyone at the pool gets a cabana, or one size fits all offering. I think with 7 people, if the kids will be in the pool, rent the cabana, but just have an adult step outside when the kids go in there. If the plan is to have all 7 in the cabana for the majority of the rental period, then that may be bending the limit too far.

The aptly named GRAND :teacher:

I say if there is sufficient space for each booty in ones party, then that's good enough. Of course, that may vary, depends on the size of the kiester! Which reminds me of my dear old sweet Auntie Fanny.

They did not have a problem 2 days in a row with my 10 guest in 1 cabana (including the use of the lounge chairs in front of said cabana) 6 adults, 3 teenagers & 1 child age 11 back in 2011. :confused3

Only gripe our head CM @ rented cabana was that they couldn't allow us to bring our own wine (brought 2 cases while staying in Grand Villa) with us due to some liquor license. :rolleyes1

Afterwards some people posting here say it sounds like BS but to hide your liquor in plastic Disney cups! LOL!! ;)

Although whatever the rule is NOW I'm sure we will abide! :thumbsup2

Well, I'm generally a rule follower as well, which is why I'm trying to find out if this is a rule in the same vein of paying adult prices for one's ten year old (which we did last year, twice, without question) or if it's a guideline Disney puts in their marketing materials to dissuade groups of 12 from squishing into one cabana.

Why does having children in the party make it even more of an issue?

Right, that's what I'm wondering. My husband even said he'd go up to the room if it was a problem. I don't think the kids would be in the cabana much at all.

We're not going to rent two cabanas if the limit is a hard and fast 6. We will simply hang out at the pool and not rent a cabana. I really don't care about having a cabana nearly that much. I was just hoping to find out if anyone happened to know if the 6 people limit was strict, a suggestion, a guideline, or what. I'm not interested in breaking the rules, but I certainly don't want to get there and find out 7 people is a problem. I'm just trying to plan.

You know how it goes. Everything is loosely enforced until it becomes an issue and then BAM! the mouse lowers the hammer.

I would suggest asking Disney. Are you close to your 60 day window?

Yeah, we can reserve it so I'm going to call. Honestly, you get such varying info from CMs sometimes that I thought asking here first made more sense ;)

Just thought I'd pop back in here to update, in case anyone else is ever in this situation. I called the GCH over the weekend and spoke with a CM, who said 7 people is fine. The reason they limit to six is because of seating. So we have one reserved. :)
