I decided to let up a little and let my mom sleep in this morning. We didn’t get to the Magic Kingdom until elevenish.
For a change we took the Ferry Boat
We received a call from my brother...in Korea...on the way to MK
Crowds weren't nearly as bad as it looks here!
We checked the Emporium for the big Mickey plush since today I had my friends money on me.
As we left the Emporium I heard a very familiar sound…the Dapper Dans (insert heart beating wildly here).
During my first College Program I worked at the Main Street Markethouse (now the Crystal Shop). It was a wonderful little store that sold kitchen accessories. For those that remember, it also had an old phone that when you picked it up you could hear an old party line, plus there was a small checker board table you could sit and play on.
The Dapper Dans used to frequent my store on a daily basis. I just think they are the greatest (plus I had a huge crush on one of them!) So every year when I come back, I always stop and see them. One of them recognized me and gave me a great big hug. He told me if I was around, to stop back later…sigh (I have video somewhere if you haven't seen them before)
We stopped at the Main St. Bakery and shared some pastries for a late breakfast….YUM French Toast Loaf!!!
A quick smoke break!
After breakfast we did all of Tomorrowland...
My score on Buzz...
Mom's score...only because she spends the whole ride spining our car
... some of Fantasyland, Big Thunder Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. Mom felt like a quick ride on the Walt Disney World Railroad before heading to our ADR...
By the time we go back to Main St. it was close to our ADR’s at the Poly and it was HOT. I know I keep saying it, but I can’t express how HOT it was…and my body did NOT like it. I really did struggle everyday.
Now I am used to a certain attitude from Cast Members…especially at the Magic Kingdom. But something was just wrong…no one was especially rude, but no one was very friendly either…OH Except for the CM that helped me look through the garbage at the Bakery when I accidentally THREW out my room card. She was AMAZING!! But something was just off…I didn’t feel any magic.
Our ADR was at 4 p.m. and we headed right for the Tambu Lounge. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it was the lack of water, but Mom didn’t make it through half her Pina Colada before handing it over to me!! Dinner was amazing, but I could barely keep my eyes open. I was really upset as we planned to go back to the MK and see Spectro and Wishes. Mom suggested getting our dessert to go and head back to the hotel early.
I was really upset, but also very tired. We decided it was too early for bed, lol, so we went to DTD to get the giant Mickey plush sent home. What a mistake…maybe I was overtired, but this was my first real encounter with a lack of magic. The Mickey I wanted to send home had no tag on him…none of them did. The CM waiting on us was new (probably College Program) and I don’t blame her. But she left to get a sku and didn’t come back for 15 minutes!!! When she finally came back, I suggested to her using a dummy sku…she informed me that would screw up inventory.
That’s when I lost it, I definitely didn’t yell at her, but she knew I was upset. I told her I undertood her problem, but at this point they were bordering on bad customer service. What she was telling me was that the backstage aspect of the store was more important than me...a guest. A manager came over, barely said two words to us. I was appalled. I finally finished up and 25 minutes later left the store.
I’ll recap my thoughs on this later, but let me just say this was a trend that we noticed through the rest of the trip. Guests just don’t seem to matter much anymore.
We crashed early that night as we had another early morning.
