Anyone ever do: 7-Night Northern Europe Cruise from Copenhagen?

Looking at doing this for 2017. Curious on thoughts on how it has gone in past...pros/cons

Assistance with must do excursions.

We just arrived home after a great week on the Magic, North Europe cruise. If you are going to do it, I recommend a private tour on St Petersburg like we did. That was the best part of the cruise.

Hi Linetbo,

What group did you book your St. Petersburg tour with? We are sailing on the May 28, 2017, cruise to Northern Europe and haven't decided between a Disney port adventure in St. Petersburg, or a private tour there.

We used Anastasia tours last summer. They were great- and customized the tour to your preferences. Enjoy!

Any recommendations compared to other Disney cruises. I noticed they only do this agenda twice a year....curious what u would do differently.

I am doing it in 2017

AnastasiaTravel, it was the best experience I ever had with a tour company.

After my private tour with Anastasia I felt disappointed with Disney tours. My friend did semi private tours with SPB tours in every port, no more than 15 passengers in each bus. Ifor I can do it all over again, I will do Anastasia tour (private) in ST Petersburg and semi private with another non disney company in other ports. This was my first time in a non disney excursion because Disney not had what I want to see there. We'll, best experience ever.

One thing not included in m report is that we spent 3 days in Iceland on the way to the cruise, then 3 days in Copenhagen prior to embarkation. It was a great choice. Iceland is amazing, and easy to navigate. Copenhagen is a very easy town to be a tourist in, and we were fully over jet lag before the cruise even started. All in all it was a splendid trip.

Can you tell me about that? We are going back next year to do Norway cruise and want to stay in Iceland a few days before. Where did you stay? Any tour company, hotel, airline? Thank you.

In Copenhagen we did the hop on bus one day and canal boat tour , Malmo another day and the Castle tours with Stroma tour company. In Tallin we did the medieval castle tour which was good, it was a Disney tour, we drove about and hour and a half to a medieval castle and have lunch there, they have activities for kids some with extra charge. After that we walked to Old Town it was a pretty city.
Ino Helsinki another disney tour , not my favorite, we did land and sea tour, didn't love it, it was just ok, my friend did the one with old town and porton I think and he like it .
In Stockholm, which is a beautiful city we did the Royal Palace, city hall and old town. We were rushed all the time, now that I know I would take the free shuttle to the city and walk there. Didn't have the best experience there but if was just because the tour guide.
Anything you want to know just ask and I will be happy to help you.

Can you tell me something about your experience there l, we want to go there before our next year cruise, can you recommend any hotel, airline, excursions? Thank you

We have been on the Baltic cruise leaving from Dover and the Norway cruise leaving from Copenhagen. Both were great.
For Copenhagen we didn't do any formal tours. Took the hop on hop off bus and the canal cruise. Went to tivoli at night which was great. And just walked and shopped.

For tallin we just took Disney transport to town and walked around

For Stockholm we did a Disney boat cruise which was good and then just walked around on our own.

In st Petersburg we did a Disney tour to st Catherine's etc. it was good to see sites but we didn't like our guide.

As for Iceland we did that on a separate land tour a couple years ago. Wonderful fascinating country. We stayed in Reykjavik right on the square for a couple nights and then drive around what they call the golden circle for three days. Lovely people both inside and out...truly beautiful healthy looking people! Incredible food. Amazing countryside, waterfalls, icebergs, thermal springs, etc. One of the cleanest places you will ever see, very pristine. No pollution at all.

Iceland Air lets you do up to a 7 day stopover to Europe then you can fly straight home. We arrived late afternoon, had a full day there, then left the next morning. Not ideal, but all we could do with school finals, etc. We did a south coast guided tour with Goecco, and did family pictures with Mink photography. We stayed at Reykjavik Residence Hotel, which has regular rooms and full on apartments. There were 8 of us total, our family of 6 and 2 grandparents. We had a great 3 bedroom apartment. It's one street off the main street, so quieter than main street, and centrally located. The service is great and you can get breakfast delivered to your room for $10/day/person which is actually enough food for breakfast and a decent lunch, and includes a fresh loaf (or two) of bread.

Iceland is getting busy during tourist season. If you are interested in stopping over there, make hotel reservations by early spring at the latest to get your first pick. Iceland is also cracking down on unlicensed airbnb's so there are fewer of those available now.

I loved Iceland so much I went back with my friend in March. We did a two day overnight tour to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon with Goecco (which included lodging and dinner that night), and a day at the Blue Lagoon. It was, again, awesome.

We stayed at the Scandic Palace in Copenhagen, which is at the foot of the central pedestrian zone and across from Tivoli. The rooms were very nice and huge by even American standards. We did the free walking tour, which gave us a good lay of the land, then just did our own thing after that. We saw the Paris Opera House Ballet premier Copellia at the Royal Opera House there, sitting about 10 rows behind the Queen. We spent a day at Tivoli, which the kids loved.

Private tours are arranged on your own, not thru DCL. Tripadvisor is great for this. You can do full on private, all by yourself and a guide. This is the most expensive for a single. Many tour companies do very small group tours, however, that you can be plugged into. For this, it will almost certainly be cheaper than any DCL excursion (or the same cost but for longer time/smaller group) and in a smaller, more manageable group. Again, check out trip advisor and email companies you are interested in. I went with the companies that were prompt in their communications and willing to tailor a tour for our wide age ranges of 9-72. It seems daunting, but it is really pretty smooth. This is especially true for SPB, where it seems like you must take a DCL excursion. There are several companies that serve SPB tours for much cheaper than DCL and offer personalized service. Thru your communications with them, they will ultimately provide you with a tour ticket in Russian that is your tour visa. Bring that to border control on the pier and the tour guide will be right on the other side. We found that everyone we interacted with had a good command of English, and making arrangements or changes was easy. For the trip, I just brought a list of all the contact numbers, names, and emails I had for each location. I found I only needed it once, in Tallinn, due to our guide being late due to traffic. Everything else was easy as pie.

It's nerve wracking to think of arranging activities for yourself (and 7 others for me!) in countries far away, but these companies do it all the time and have it down to a science. Seriously, spend some time on Tripadvisor and stick with companies with lots of reviews and you'll be fine. Our whole family decided our private tours were exponentially better than the DCL ones, hands down. Also, DCL provided free busses to Stockholm and Helsinki city centers. I don't remember if they did in Tallinn, but its a very short walk to the old town, maybe 10-15 minutes? SPB you MUST be on a tour (Russia's rules) so no busses that just drop you off.
