Are there ever non-home resorts available at 7 months out other than OKW and maybe SSR? Each time I consider trying something new (since buying DVC in 2009), I am never able to get anything at 7 months out. Is any new inventory added later or is it pretty much what you see is what you get? I am 10 months out and most of the resorts have no availability for early December. (yes, I realize that is the most popular time for DVC members)

I've seen many members successfuly book elsewhere at 7 months.

You can always book OWK or SSR and wait list for the resort you want.

It is a matter of when and what you want at the WDW resorts (nothing that follows considers wait listing from which many have found success):

The following can be gone by 7 months out almost any time of year although sometimes you can get lucky: AKV club level and value, BLT standard view, BWV GV, BWV standard and boardwalk view studios and 2BRs, the OKW GVs in the Hospitality House booking category, BCV 2BR with two queens, VGF studios

Between the Monday after marathon weekend in Jan and last week of Sep, the following are invariably open at 7 months out: BWV pool/garden view, BLT lake view, VWL, AKV standard and savanna view, Kidani GVs. The following are also usually open during that period except for a risk otherwise during holiday periods and time around special weekends like the Princess half marathon weekend in late Feb and Star Wars weekends: BCV other than that 2BR with 2 queens, BWV standard and boardwalk view 1BRs, GVs at OKW, BLT, VGF, and AKV Jambo, BLT theme park view.

Between late Sep and marathon weekend in Jan, things become more difficult:

1. The following are extremely high demand times when pickings become slim for anything at near park resorts, for treehouses at SSR, for GVs (with the exception of VGF which is often open), and even AKV standard and savanna view and OKW can sometimes have days with issues: the Thurs through Mon of Columbus Day weekend, the Thurs through Sun of the weekend after Columbus Day weekend, the Thur through Sat of the weekend in Nov when Food & Wine ends (usually the weekend that includes or comes just before Veterans Day), the Tues to Sat of Thanksgiving week, first two weeks of Dec, Dec 23 to Jan 2, the Thurs through Sat of marathon weekend in Jan. Also, SSR GVs have a risk of having some days filled during Thanksgiving, first two weeks of Dec, that Nov weekend when Food & Wine ends, and NYE. Moreover, all of SSR has a risk of being gone the Friday of that weekend in Nov when Food & Wine ends and NYE.

2. During the rest of that late Sep to end of marathon weekend in Jan period, AKV standard and savanna view, OKW, and SSR including treehouses are usually open. Moreover AKV Kidani GVs are often open the rest of that quarter, and likewise VGF GVs and 2BRs, and even VWL is often open. However, the rest of the near park resorts, even 1BRs are far more likely to be difficult to get if looking for more than two or at most three consecutive days. Your best chance, to the extent chances exist, to get rooms at those near park resorts, such as BWV pool/garden view, BLT lake view, and even possibly BCV, is late Sep to first four days of Oct, the Tues after that weekend in Nov when Food & Wine ends to the Friday before Thanksgiving, Dec 16 through 22, and Jan 3 to the Wednesday before marathon weekend in Jan.

Sure, all the time, so long as it's not food & wine, Xmas/New Years, the weekend for any type of marathon, or the first week in December. I just got Boardwalk standard in late August. I've gotten Boardwalk quite a lot. I have also gotten OKW (January MLK weekend), AKV (March), and BLT (September). I had to split a stay but I did get one night at GF.

Early December is one of the most difficult times to get a stay of longer than a couple of days anywhere but at your home resort.

Depending on several factors, availability at 7 months is mixed. The only way to guarantee happiness is to buy where you love to stay and book at 11 months.

I only rarely do not get what I want at seven months. Are you trying exactly at seven months?

Every trip we have booked under 7 months. Home is SSR and we have stayed there not because thats all that is left, but because I like it. But last March we did split stays with BC and AKL. This March we are splitting BC and BLT. FYI BLT is standard view, booked at 5 months out. We do splits so we are closer to the parks we are doing at the time. And just so you dont think that the splits are only a day or 2, this March both stays are for 5 nights. Just 3 days ago we figured we would arrive one day early, we snagged a value at AKL ( only one night so exception to rule).
I normally travel in Oct, but these past 2 years have been March break, so even at busy times we have got what we were looking for.
Good Luck

We definitely have had good luck exchanging into resorts other than our home. But, if you try at 7 months and nothing is there that you want, wait list, but also keep an eye on the online system. Things change all the time and I have been able to put together the trip I wanted using both those methods. I even ended up one year, starting in June, getting a 1 bedroom BW view at BWV, for a 3 night long weekend in the middle of October! So, with time and patience, things are possible. Unfortunately, early December is tricky and most book their trip at home resorts right at 11 months to ensure a stay.

I'm surprised you have no luck at your non-home resort at 7 months out. I have successfully booked BW view at BWV, BLT, & WL. However, I have not been to WDW in Dec since 2013. I was in DL at the VGC for NYE 2014/2015. That I did book in my home resort window. Are you booking right when the window opens?

Edit: one more thought, I'm not trying to book studios (maybe that's the difference) I am willing to book a 2 bdrm if necessary or I want a 1 bdrm. My family prefers to have a kitchen and, ideally, two bathrooms.

I own at BWV only and have stayed at every WDW DVC except SSR. Plus 4 VGC stays. Mostly spring trips, I got VGF studio last May, BLT studio in March a couple of years ago. Got a VGC 1 bedroom for August before D23, I did it in 2013 also. Plus a couple of studio stays in early May and late September. I pounce right when the 7 month window opens.

Is it early December that you always go and are trying to switch? That will likely be the most difficult time but still not always impossible. Other times of the year will have more options.

I was considering a stay at GFV. The newness may be the reason why. It is okay if I do not get it because I love AKV, but I am going solo this time and wanted to try something different. I am not at 7 months yet, but even at 10 months that first week is fully booked according to the DVC availability tool.

Booking a VGF studio for early December is very difficult, even for owners at 11 months. By 8.01am each morning they were gone.

That confirms my thoughts. Same as Wilderness Lodge during December. That is okay, back to my home resort I go.

Early December at WLV is hard...one of the main reasons I got hubby to buy resale there...alas we need to stay there in June for the Murphy bed feature, so this XMAS will have us at BCV, which I prefer in the summer months...such a problem ☺️

Certain resorts are harder to get at particular times but I have stayed at them all at 7 months. Of course it also depends on room size and room view. We always get a 2 bedroom.

We have never gone during the first week of Dec. but have been able to book at ALL of the other DVC resorts at 7 months at various other times of the year. I think it must simply be the dates you're trying to book. We usually travel in the summer (late July / early-mid August), sometimes over spring break and maybe in January for a long weekend. And Memorial Day weekend once….

Hi OP my Quote isnt working but wanted to say I have owned at SSR (420 points) since 2009 and only once have I ever kept my 11 month reservation, which was a GV at SSR. I travel to Disney every year , sometimes twice a year, and always change or book my ressie at 7 months.

Perhaps its the 7 month mark you are trying to book? Today, at 9 am, I booked two bedroom at GFV for the second week in September so that is a lot different than October at BWV during FW, first week in December, etc.

I also booked a one bedroom last yesr for December 26-29 at BLT for pre cruise stay but think I was lucky with that not sure.

Good luck.

Oh I am sure it is exactly that. I am going the first week of December which is the best time for Members to visit based upon point requirements. I was once told (by my Tour Guide) that at no point should a Member have any issue getting inventory at 7 months out for any resort - obviously not true. LOL

I don't know about the any resort comment, but yes, I do agree if you are flexible on accommodation size and, if necessary can shift your dates slightly, you can get a DVC room right at the 7 month window. DVC = planning, that is the way I see it (sounds like you see it that way too).
