7 dwarves mine train vs big thunder mountain

SDMT is more tame than BTMRR which is faster and more jerky. BTMRR is especially fun at night b/c you can't see where you are going per se and it seems faster.

I agree! Also, if you want a rougher ride on BTMRR, request to sit in the last row of the entire train even if it means waiting for another train. It really does feel a lot more exciting and you seem to bump around more back there! BTMRR is great at night, it's actually my favorite time to ride it. It does seem much faster at night to me too.

Hi fellow Disney obsessed,

Just wanting opinions on which ride is better for thrill seekers. I've heard the dwarves one is quite tame? Is it worth doing big thunder at night?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I like both, neither is a thrill ride by any means. BOTH are better at night. Our preference is always BTMRR over 7D. Sometimes you can time it so that you see the fireworks from BTMRR, which is very cool.

Exactly! We always request to sit near the back!

I like both and would try to do them both on a trip but BTMRR is one of my faves. I love coasters at night. We did BT as our last ride at MK (at night) during our June trip. It was great!

Both rides are better at night...especially 7DMT. We enjoy BTMRR day or night (prefer night), but will not ride 7DMT during the day because it's so much better at night.

As everyone has said BTMRR is faster and more jerky but not a "thrill" ride. 7DMT has better visuals but is too short for the amount of wait time it takes if you don't have a FP. It is cool how they offer a video for your ride on your photo pass. A lot of the talk about the 7DMT during construction was about the cars and how they swayed with the turns and how that would add to the experience. It may have made it less jerky but I'm not sure it added a lot of thrill to it. The animatronics and visuals are amazing though.

For our family, BTMRR is still our favorite. Its always the ride we seem to close the park down with. We try to get to a point at the end of the night where it is basically a walk on and we ride it over and over again. As my kids get older, I start to think more and more about the memories we've had on certain rides and this one is near the top every time.

Our next trip is next summer and my oldest will be between his JR and SR years in HS. We're DVC members but I keep thinking about how this may be the last pure family trip we take where everyone still lives at home and enjoys the trip like to good ol' days. I know that if he'll go with us he'll always be invited, even when he's in college! How's that for getting off topic?!

BTMR is faster, rough, and is a little more thrilling than SDMT.
SDMT is a smooth short ride geared more towards younger kids but is fun for adults too.
