$7 a gallon in January??!!!

I admit I was the same way, I said no way, he cant do that! And DH said I'm just telling you what my brother told me. All we can do is wait until January and see what happens. DH's brother was also the 1st one to tell us that gas prices will be down to $1.99 by December the latest. And he told us this at the beginning of October. We never heard anything of it. We both laughed and said yeah right. We'll believe it when we see it. What happens, about a week and a half ago our gas finally dropped below $2!

Well, then, I suggest you get him to give you those lottery numbers like a prior poster mentioned!!
Seriously, do you totally believe this third hand info without seeing it from a reliable source?

At this point theres no telling what to believe in. I mean if someone told you 6 months ago that gas prices would be under $2 in November, would you have believed them? Most likely not. Im not saying I believe it, but then Im not saying I dont believe it. With gas prices where they are right now, anything, and I mean ANYTHING is possible. In Jan/Feb you might look back at this thread and say "OMG gas prices are at $7" or whatever. Or you could be saying "see, everything is fine, no raise in gas prices!" All we can do is play the waiting game and see what the future brings us. I for one will be very upset as Im sure along with everyone else if gas prices ever got that high. DH already said he would stop driving to work and walk. We live right across the street from the base so it wouldnt be a long walk. Even if its 15 degrees outside with snow on the ground.

DH's brother isnt prediciting anything. DH's brother only told DH what he heard on the news and what Obama said. Weither or not Obama is lying or telling the truth, weither or not DH's brother is lying or telling the truth - who knows right now. All we can do is wait and see.

Why are crude oil prices low? The world wide economy is slowing down, resulting in less demand, hence lower prices.

Could one have predicted that this past summer? Yes, many of us warned that strong economic growth would not continue for much longer.

Will crude oil prices double by January? Extremely doubtful. Will the outgoing regime in America add $5/gallon in taxes? Extremely doubtful. Will the new regime add $5/gallon in taxes in the first weeks of 2009? Extremely doubtful.

Barring any catrostophic event (and it would need to have far reaching global impact in order to raise crude oil prices to $200/barrel) there is no way that Americans will be paying $7/gallon two months from now.

OP, do you know the primary source of American oil, by the way? The answer may surprise you, or cause you to think differently about what you have posted.

My Disney wives second cousin on her brothers side said that we would be paying $14 gallon by the end of the year but I know that he likes to spread rumors so maybe we just should sit back and see what happens.......

Interesting point bavaria. I'm not the OP but I just did a google search & was really surprised to find out who our top oil suppliers are! I never knew and never would have guessed 3 out of the top 4.

And speaking of rumors, there was a rumor going around among grade school kids in this area that Obama was going to make kids go to school on Saturdays.

Since you've heard it through the grapevine, this is total second hand information. Without a source, I don't believe it.

Which makes it a third-hand rumor here. Plus, three other small but interesting points: first, that information was posted two days BEFORE the election; second, according to one of the (reasonable) responses - and the link provided by that person - McCain had the exact same policy in his energy plan; and finally, that poligazette source describes itself as "News and Analysis from Different Moderate Perspectives "

I think we all know that a skyrocketing gas price IS a possibility. Not too long ago I would have never dreamed gas could go over $4 a gallon. Then, before we knew it, it's down under $2. The powers that be can make it any price they want....I can only hope it stays low. (But I have been called a dreamer before....

I guess the sore losers havent figured out that the rumors before the election didnt have an impact so they are trying the same ole stale tactics to produce fear. Ya wanna know what produces fear in me, read about all the racial crimes that have been committed since the election by segments of our great America, now thats fear! I fear that I still live in "that" America, when I felt we had come so far.

I think if your husbands brother was correct, SOMEONE else would have seen this news story. I watch the news everyday and have not heard anything similar to this. The part about Joe Biden make it seem especially untrue to me. I doubt they would create anything other than a united front before entering office. I watch FOX News a lot too. Believe me, if Obama had said this recently, Sean Hannity would be all over him!

I went to Google News and searched on Gas Prices. Pages of stories on Lower Prices. And as it relates to the future, check the link below which says we should see low prices well into Spring of 2009 here in the US.
