7/9/11 - Summer Magic in the Med

@Dazed - I'll be impressed if I manage to bring only one suitcase too, but that's the plan. I'll be doing some packing "testing" this weekend to see whether or not this is realistic... :rolleyes1

O.M.G. 15 DAYS!!! :woohoo:

DAZED - Thanks for asking. Yes, we told the kids last Friday! Major excitement.

As for my son's birthday, plan to have lunch in one of the Cinque Terre towns where hopefully the waiters will sing happy birthday in italian.

Have not started packing. Not looking forward to it.

As for formal night - we really do not want to pack a suit for my husband/son so hope it will not be a problem. Would even a tie be necessary?

Hi Emma,

Wow the children must be so excited. What a surprise. I could never have kept it a secret so long. We're doing Cinque Terre on our own as well so we'll be sure to listen out for the strains of 'Happy Birthday' being sung in Italian.:)

I had hoped Craig who's 15 would wear a shirt and tie as I'm planning to bring something black for formal night which usually only sees the light of day around Christmas! ;) However he's renaiging in favour of an opentop shirt but I still have some persuasion time left!

Oh mom,

I've no idea about dining rotations. I've read a bit about it in other threads but not sure what difference it makes or where it's best to be when :confused3 I think we'll just take what we get. Can't wait. Only 15 days to go
.:yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay::yay:

@Emma and Dazed - it seems as though 3 of us are doing Cinque Terre on our own! what are your plans of attack, aside from finding a lunch spot where the waiters will sing happy birthday? :-)

We're not planning on requesting a rotation. Part of me kind of hopes that we're not in Parrot Cay for formal night, because it seems more casual than the other two restaurants, but I don't really care other than that.

I think we'll probably end up with two suitcases-- I am forever impressed with anyone who can fit everything in their carry-on!

As for formal night, my dad might be wearing a suit, depending on suitcase space. If not, he'll just wear a nice shirt and tie.

Cinque Terre on our own - well, we hope to take the ferry to the furthest point but am hearing different things about when the ferry actually starts - either 9:15 or 11ish ( this seems late). Want to take the early ferry if possible to the furthest town - so that we would get a sea view of everything. Then plan to take the train back and stop at 3 of the towns. If the ferry leaves 11ish, then will probably take the train to the furthest town and the trains back as well. I have to say I am a bit confused as to which ticket to buy ( for the ferry and the trains). I bought Rick Steves Italy book and just got his new Med cruise ports book - will need to read them again as I was just not following everything.

Need to look at the schedules next week. We leave on 7/5 for three nights in Barcelona.

I just wish the euro exchange rate would get better. This trip is really adding up with everything.

Hi all!

Getting so excited. 10 day countdown until we leave and we got our stateroom assignment today!!!

We'll be in #5148.

We just got our stateroom assignment too! 5646... Doesn't sound great but, who cares, it's on the Magic in the Med!! :woohoo:

@Emma and Dazed - it seems as though 3 of us are doing Cinque Terre on our own! what are your plans of attack, aside from finding a lunch spot where the waiters will sing happy birthday? :-)

We had been planning to train to the furthest town and just wander around, do some easy trails or take trains back. HOWEVER recently been reading threads about the ferry and the views do look fabulous so may need to rethink. :confused3

Trying not to feel stressed because I know it will be a great trip whatever.

We leave for Barcelona on the 8th. Current temp in Barcelona 21C (71F), it's 11C here.:banana::banana::banana::banana:

Two weeks today :yay:

Is the Fish Extender list all set now with names and everyone's cabin number??? Want to make sure we have an updated list when we arrive on the boat and bring enough goodies with us.

Yes, we would like to meet in the promenade lounge with everyone on embarkation day. We also have a daughter aged 10 1/2 (that half is important to her!), so would love to meet some friends to hang out with!:cool1:

Hi All:

We (5 of us) will be on this trip. 1st cruise for us. Not sure we can do Fish Extender at this time, so maybe not. Is there any room to store luggage? We were told there is a gap between wall partition and a piece of furniture. How big is it? Is under the bed open and how tall will fit under? If we do the "Taste of Rome" excursion, do you actually get to go inside the Coliseum? Can you be announced upon boarding the boat as a pseudonym (i.e. The Shrute family)? We would certainly hope to attend the meet at 3.

This will be our second disney med cruise... family of four with son (18), and daughter (10)<left the 20 year old at home---he's NOT happy>. We'll be arriving in Barcelona on the 7th and staying at the fira <something> hotel. In room 6620 on the boat. Looking forward to meeting you on the boat! :surfweb:

Hi, We've just discovered this forum and we've very much enjoyed "catching up" on your news! We have two girls 11 and 14, who'd love to meet some other kids to hang out with.

We did a Disney Western Carribean a few years ago and loved it. On the Magic then too!

We're going to "wing it" in most ports, although we're going the Amalphi boat trip, Pisa, and the the olive oil tasting at Rome. On ship we're going to do the Wine tasting if anyone else is up for that.

We've been living in Sweden for a while, although we're from Ottawa Canada.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Welcome to all the new faces here! "Murats at large", glad you found this web site. It is full of very interesting information. Ottawa is such a beautiful city.

I'm looking forward to meet all of you onboard!!! :grouphug:
(3 more working days for me, whoo hoo!!)

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Welcome NAG and Murats at Large! Looking forward to meeting everyone next week. There seems to be a rather large contingent of 10 and 11 year old girls on the trip. If yours are interested in emailing beforehand, drop me a private message and my daughter (11) will get them in the loop so they know a bit about each other by the time we board!

FWIW - because we aren't taking much luggage, we won't be participating in the FE gift exchange... But have fun to those of you who are!! :goodvibes

Murats At Large- glad to hear about your daughter (14). I'm 14, too, (15 right after the cruise) and I'm glad there will be someone around my age :goodvibes

I think we'll have to pull out of the fish extender- for a while it didn't seem like it was actually happening, and now I feel like I don't really have enough time :(

:welcome: to our cruise group!!

my daughter age 14 (will be in 9th grade in the fall) has agreed to come to the meet with me on embarktion day for those with daughters around that age
