7/25/2013 Med. Mickey's 12 Night Italian Job - with Nice, Valletta and Dubrov !

When you arrive at the airport change your watch to Barcelona time. I've heard it helps with the time change.

Last time we went to Europe we napped on the plane and stayed up as long as we could. Then slept until morning. We were on London time on our first full day in country. The hard part was returning to the US. That took a week of adjustment.

See you all in a few weeks!

I found this and thought it might be fun.
There is also a 2 hour course. Kelly.

Okay, now I know I'm really a little off-I already set a watch to Barcelona time. I saw on one of the navigators that we set forward again in Rome. Is this true?

All of Central Europe falls within one time zone, so no more changes once you get there. As for us it's a one hour time difference from UK summertime to European time so a bit easier.:beach:

Kelly, we are doing this... We signed up for the 2 hour English version where we decorate 2 masks for 2 hours. Our time is from 3-5pm that first day we arrive in Venice. We figured this will give us plenty of time to find the place since we arrive around 1pm. Decorate from 3-5. Then head back to ship for dinner and dropping daughter off before my husband and I head back out for our ghost tour at 8pm.

If you want to do this at the time we are, pm me and I will give you my reservations info. We all pay less per person the more people we have.

Is there a character breakfast available on this cruise?
Getting very excited!

So bummed I didn't see this option when I bought our tickets! Oh well!

Head's up: Someone on the Facebook page said that a current DCL Med cruiser has reported that they were required to show their passport when disembarking at the Rome port.

What Facebook page are you looking at?

Alex,

Thanks for the confirmation about the time. I thought everything was in the same time zone. (At least according to the internet - and we know that the internet is never wrong.:happytv:) There was just a cryptic statement on one of the Rome navigators about time. I was searching for navigators and there are some up on other threads.
I'm always glad to come back to this thread and confirm what the facts really are.

Take Care,
John

No problem John. I'm not sure the first Venetian cruise is still sailing, they don't get back to Barcelona until tomorrow so I would imagine it'll be nearer the weekend before there is anything on the disboards.
We still have the ones we got in 2011 for The ports we're doing again. If you want I can dig those out?

Alex:thumbsup2

Today a coworker was showing me how to find a thread for this cruise on Cruise Critic's forums and lo and behold our Figment Fan is one of the first posters over there talking about "only 500 more days to go!" That is funny! Way to lead from the front John!

Mike,
Yes, that's me on the cruisecritic board. That is a very informative board as well. They have some very good information on ports in Europe.

I found the Navigator that mentions the time change in Rome. It is on the: "Back to the Med Greece/Turkey in 2013! We're back and the updates begin!" It's on the cover for Civitavecchia.

Anyway, it's hard to remember to when I posted the a little over 500 day mark on cruise critc. I did that soon after we booked. We've had a lot of time to prepare, but I still don't feel fully ready. I'm tipping into that stage of: I've done what I can, I'm going to be on vacation, so I'll go with the flow.

Now for something important: where to buy alcohol to bring on board. Any thoughts? I understand that there is a market accross from the Hilton Diagonal Mar, so that will have to be on the list. Normally, a bottle of vodka and a bottle rum. (Confession: I have had to throw away some of both on former cruises at the time of debarkation. With 12 nights, I'm thinking that won't happen, but, depending on interesting drinks one never knows.)

Any thoughts on a special beverage/liquor out of Barcelona?? Shouldn't be too colorful. I'm a clutz who can spill anything at a moments notice. With the weather, I will be wearing light colored clothing, so nothing red.

I intend on picking up some limoncello in Italy.

Hi folks...

We leave in 72 hours for London and Paris prior to the cruise - eek! My stomach is doing flip flops.

We finally were able to reserve tickets to the Accademia today via the phone. We are doing a Limo in Rome tour that day and I wanted to be able to book our Pisa tickets first in case I couldn't get the correct time to climb. We couldn't get online tickets to work here or at DH's work so he called today. Does this mean that we can skip the queue? I really hope it does but DH forgot to ask.

Also, speaking of drinks, is unsweetened iced tea popular in Europe? Being that I am diabetic and not fond of fizzy pop, I order unsweetened iced tea so that I can add some Splenda to it and feel like I am having a real drink instead of just water. If unsweetened tea is not popular, is there any other sugarless drink available over there? I hope that I don't tick off anyone by passing on their wonderful wines, beers and limoncello (due to RA meds).

Given the different prices for having a beverage at the counter, inside or on the terrace, do they charge for ice water if you are ordering other items like croissant, etc? We will have our refillable water bottles but I expect that they will be warm in about 10 mins given the heat.

Thanks!

You will not find a good unsweetened iced tea in London. The English can't be beat on hot tea, but iced tea...not so much. I've found that earl grey (a black tea) is a tea that makes an acceptable iced tea. The ship does have tea bags available at the drink station on deck 9. I'm not partial to the nestea brand, I bring my own bags and while on board ship, I make my own. (Yes, I completely admit to being a tea snob. It's my caffeine vice).

If I remember correctly, iced beverages are not popular in Europe. Cooled beverages are the norm. (Please correct if this info is wrong)

I agree that iced tea isn't really widely available in Europe. It does exist but it's not really the European's cup of tea (hahaha pun intended!) I have seen large bottles of iced tea in supermarkets in France and Spain but I can't guarantee youd be able to get it in a cafe in Europe. I also can't tell you if the varieties you can get taste any good as I haven't tried it. Iced coffee on the other hand thanks to Costa and Starbucks is available all over London and anywhere you can find one of those coffee shop chains. Iced smoothies and iced fruit frappes are available in Starbucks and Costa too and probably elsewhere. As for sugar free drinks that are widely available in restaurants and cafes, you are likely to find Coke Zero or Pepsi Max and quite often Fanta Zero as well if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.

Gee, I generally have iced tea in the dining rooms for dinner. I drink it unsweetened. I know, that is a major faux paus in some circles. But, that leaves more calories to be taken up by food.

lasdisney, have a safe trip. We'll see you soon. We leave in 13 days. I was up at 4 a.m. our time. That's 10 a.m. Barcelona time. I'm trying to slowly adjust my internal clock to lessen the jet lag problem. By next week, I'll be getting up around 8 a.m. Barcelona time. (At least I'm hoping)

Ah just realised you said you don't like fizzy pop so probably not Coke or Fanta Zero for you then!!
