Was that a quick enough response to a DIS meet in Warnemunde?

Now the next question: who on this thread speaks German? Not many of the locals speak English. We did get by with ordering snacks in the bakery, yes they serve alcohol, and with the little bit of shopping we did in town. The easiest place we found to shop in was the Jack Wolf store, they did speak English there.

Well I just ran your idea past the DW & it got a:thumbsup2 her only comment's were why take the kids off the boat at all! & honey if you want to see Berlin I want you to be happy so go ahead I will be on the Beach drinking when you get back!

Oh I am sure I can get a german translation ap for my sons i-phone!

She's funny and her comment gave my family quite a laugh. DD just said let's join her and so did DH. So make sure you take lots of pics of Berlin to show us all when you get back. :rotfl2:

DD likes the idea of staying on the ship too, but she says she really likes Warnemunde and wants to get off and try the beer at the beer shack again. That was priceless last time...

DH said her name was Helga.
While you are at it, I'll take a postcard too.

So that's shopping, eating and drinking in Warnemunde along with some beach time. :thumbsup2

Oh oh oh!!! Me, me, me! I can finally be of some use on this thread! I can be fully responsible for getting us drinks and ice cream at the beach in Germany.

Okay, I haven't been there for 20 years, and I am quite rusty, but I am sure DS18 (who just spent summer 2009 in Deutschland, most of the time staying with a German speaking family) will volunteer to help for some ice cream!

Does this mean we could let all the kids go off together in town since you can see the ship while in town? Safety in numbers and we have 4 traveling with us. :upsidedow

Here's the meets plan in Warnemunde: grab a towel from the ship and meet at the lighthouse by the teapot building along the beach. We can then grab some sand spots with drinks and snacks or go to the cafe with the fake palm trees and check out the beach beds and chairs with their bar drinks and snacks, including ice cream.
See....that wasn't so hard to do.
Now you're going to make me make a decision! Berlin or fun on the beach with the gang. :confused3

Andrew speaks a bit of German, me even less.

Or maybe Terri Garr in Young Frankenstein!

Who posted about Segway tours in Tallinn? Were these guided tours or just rentals? It might be fun to get a group together! I know the 4 of us are interested!

I think Laurie posted about the Segway tours. I only posted we saw the press opening.

Sorry to make you choose between Berlin (with Robert) or staying in town with us and the rest of his family. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:
Although you and Andrew's German would come in handy for us. But my DH had no problem ordering beer and we only had a problem trying to get Alexa a glass of milk at the bakery, they couldn't figure out why she wanted to order a glass of milk.

poohmomof5 (sorry, I can't remember your name for the life of me) we can definately use your German skills and your DS's as well.

Yeah, we'd definitely be interested in a Segway tour in Tallinn if they are offered. We did one in Barcelona (our first) and had a wonderful time. Great way to see a lot and have fun too!

I'm just getting caught up on the thread here as both of my laptops picked up nasty trojans and are almost back up and running. Then my desktop's hard drive died and needed to be replaced. Thank heavens for a tech savvy DH. :cheer2::cheer2: Now I just need to read up on the shore excursions. Have they opened up for sale yet? :surfweb:

Make it a great day!:goodvibes

ok, question for the women here...

I do need to go shopping for some new sneakers soon. Any recommendations for a brand that will hold up well during these tours?

Sorry I can't help you here, I only wear sandals. I wore Clarks on the last cruise and had no issues with them.

I do have two suggestions. Mind you, I have to be careful with my feet. Arches are a MUST in shoes for me. Anyway my two favorites are:

Rockport walking shoes or
the one's I have now are Nike. Unfortunately, there isn't a style type or number on them. But, I bought them at Lady Footlocker. Funny looking as the bottom of the shoe has 5 columns.

The Rockport and the Nike's were a bit pricey, but have lasted a long time and held up very well. Ultimately, the best advice is to put the shoe on in the store, if your first reaction is "these are fine". Take them off and move on. If your reaction is "these are great". Don't look at the price tag.

Good Luck

I also wear Clarks springers & they are great. Have a closed toe shoe as well as a sandal & they are both great for longdays with several miles of walking! I also find my feet can breath better than socks & sneakers

Celestine

It's nice to know that I won't be the only one wearing sandals in each port. People kept asking me if my feet were hurting on the last Baltics since I didn't wear sneakers and I don't own any.

I love Earth shoes for walking. They have a great arch support and wonderful for posture. I have had one pair for almost five years. They have a big selection at zappos.com.

Thanks all:thumbsup2
Don't want sore feet on this trip if I can help it.

I am pretty sure we are doing Anastasia in StP too. I have not heard from them since I wrote back about getting in at 12:30 on the first day. My sil thinks it sounds like a good idea. I am afraid to try Berlin on our own. That is such a long trip to worry about missing the ship. But I am waiting to hear what Laurie finds out.!

I just heard back this morning Karen. I copied and pasted the reply below. If anyone is interested in joining us send me a pm (saving money with a bigger group would be great):goodvibes

Dear Laurie

It's good to hear from you again and we certainly still have availability to
arrange a day trip to Berlin for you on Thursday, July 22 2010 when you are
docking in Warnemuende during your Baltic cruise.

As proposed before our driver would meet you at the dock directly. Once you
have arrived in Berlin, our guide will join you at your first stop,
beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, and spend 6-7 hours in your company touring
the city. The guide will make sure that you have a great time while
exploring Berlin and its fascinating history. All our guides are very
experienced and will be happy to adjust the tour as you go along to meet
your personal interests and they will add many odd facts and entertaining
stories which you will find yourself repeating to your friends back home -
needless to say that all our guides are fluent English-speakers.

We had to adjust the prices for this year a little. The price for this
programme for a group of 4 people would be Euro 820.00 including the driver
and bus for the day, up to 7 hours with our guide, all taxes and insurance
as well as a bottle of water on the bus for each of you. Not included are
lunch and admission to museums (admission to the Pergamon Museum for example
would be Euro 10.00 per person, but we would only take you to any museum on
request). This price covers a group of up to 4 people. We'd be happy for you
to invite others along for the day to make a larger group at an extra Euro
60.00 per person for a group of up to 7 people, which is all we can carry
with the minibus.
For 8-19 people we would have to arrange for a bigger bus; the price for the
full programme then being Euro 1125.00 for 8 people and an extra Euro 25.00
per additional passenger, so Euro 1150.00 for 9 people ... Euro 1400.00 for
19 people.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards
Sabine Bentlage

I'm still waiting to hear back from the company :confused3
I think it was guided tours.
I just googled them as I remembered Barb mentioning previously that there was a segway tour available in Tallinn.
I'll post here when I hear something:thumbsup2

Nicole you were my secret mickey on the PC repo cruise right?

So great to have another family from that cruise here:grouphug:

'Morning all

The west coast did not need to share their rain with the east coast, we didn't share our snow with you last month. :headache:

Yes.

Had a lot of questions re London, transport, Dover, etc etc recently, happy to assist.

Due to work commitments, and parental commitment not around much, Monday to Friday, next weekend DD is in DLP with the girl guides, I am picking her up from Ebbsfleet Sunday night.

Off in a second or two, as there is a drama I want to watch with 100% attention on the TV.

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one trying to use you as a travel guide :) Thanks for being so nice about it!
