Ballyhoo Bus

For those of you new to the board, or just lurking:

We (well, DH) is organizing a Ballyhoo bus from various London hotels (i.e. pretty much where you're staying) to the port on departure day. THere will also be a bus from the port to both Gatwick & Heathrow.

Cost/head is £10-15 dependent upon final numbers. Registering your interest now is not a commitment until final payment day when I will confirm names, locations etc.

If you are interested in transport, please PM me details of your party size, (hotel if known) & which bus trip (s) you are interested in

Hi Jill,

Steve and I did this same exact tour in 2000. Many years ago, but it was definitely nice. Same ports, Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan. Although as someone said, doing it with the Mouse would be so much more fun. Ketchikan was dry for once and nice. Skagway, I think I forgot to book something through the ship but had absolutely no problem finding someone at shoreside to give us a tour of the local area and we evern got to stop by some creek and see a couple of bears fishing. Saw some eagles pretty close up and the local guide was pretty informative about eagles, like they mate for life, etc.

All in all, a very beautiful country. I enjoyed it very much. If I had little kids, I would worry that they would not have had a good enough time but this time it will be with the Mouse so I have no worries about that. Plus, my kids are older now, they are on their own.

It will be fun. Me and my family are considering doing the last Alaskan cruise and the repo down to LA. Assuming the economy will be better by that time.

As of now, we are still booked but if things don't get better quick, we may have to cancel too.

Anyone else drop out yet?

Hi Laura thanks for the info. My cousin did a land cruise there a couple of years ago and several people I know have cruised up there so I'll be able to get lots of info from people. :yay:
DD (now 15) didn't want to go until I showed her the pics on DCL's site and now she wants to go. She was really interested when she saw the lumberjack competition pic on the site and wants to go to that while up there. :confused3 So does that mean DCL will find some sort of competition 'show' they will have an excursion to?!? :confused3

You won't be able to do the last cruise and then the repo back down since there's a 2 week gap and it's been mentioned that will be when the Wonder is in drydock. So I'm guessing there's someplace up that way that they have a contract with for their 2 year drydock schedule.

Hope you can stay on this cruise, looking forward to meeting everyone that we've 'talked' to for so long. :grouphug:

Probably this one in Ketchikan:

Izzie posted a message on Facebook sometime in the summer that they had cancelled. :guilty:

That's what I thought - I just don't remember her every posting a definitive answer here but I might have missed it. I also think Sallie may not be coming, but am not sure if they ever gave a final answer either.

She didn't post it on here, only on FB. Her son also posted a response of "NOOOO" or something to that effect.

Also, thanks for the Lumberjack show link DD will want to look at that.

 Everybody?

Anyone remember me? :upsidedow

Anyway, I'm still hoping that there are familiar faces on here. As of now, we are still going but if talk keeps surfacing about airfare, and DH hears about it, we may not be going. SIGH.

Anyway just wanted to pop in and say hi to anybody. I'll skim and see what I can pick up in the last couple of pages.

Hi Laura,

Hope you and Steve can join us.

Barb,

If we did do the AK, it would probably be in mid to late July. Aug. is a "getting back into the swing of it" month and starting to set up at school, so I would only do a weekend trip then, at most. Anyone else decide when they'll be going?

Something interesting. I was just looking up dates for the ABD Alaska and found that peak time to go is in June. And some dates in July are considered value, others are regular. Wonder if the weather will be really cool to cruise in Aug.

So, was she actually interested in the show or was it the lumberjacks that caught her eye? ;)

I wonder if they do drydock stuff here in Seattle? That would be so cool! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :cool1: :lmao: I showed her the website that Julie posted and she so wants to go to the Lumberjack show - they use power tools. I think she likes to look at the lumberjacks too. She even went to school today and told some kids she's going to see lumberjacks in AK - they had no clue what she was talking about and she didn't tell them anything more.
Kids can be so weird. :dance3:

We enjoyed our trip the end of August. The weather was great.

My guess is that AK and the Baltics are similiar weather-wise - you never know what you will get until you are there, especially during the summer months.

So one day when she brings her fiance home and he is wearing a plaid flannel shirt and holding a power tool you won't be surprised:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Nope, not at all. DH used to work for a landscaper and that's how he would dress so it definately wouldn't surprise me at all. The first pic DH gave me was of him he standing in a hole that was about 5 feet deep - they were transplanting a tree.

Anyone else decide when they'll be going?

We're provisionally booking for 31 May as that is half term break in UK so girls will only miss 3 days of school. As much as I want this cruise, we are already committed to a 10 might trip to WDW with BIL & family, so I;m hoping they repeat the itinery in 2012 & we can shift our ressie to then. It's also frustrating not knowing how many $$$$ it's actually going to cost.

We are going over on 7/11 and staying down in Edenbridge. Inlaws were able to trade into a timeshare down there but I don't remember the name of it :(

just a quick stop by to say hello to everyone and to hope all you Ballyhooer's are well.

As an update: Josh's barmitzvah was wonderful. He did so well and the party weekend was everythng we wished for. Ethan has started senior school and other than that we're just keeping our head down and plowing on.

I'm really sorry that we won't be joining you on the cruise but finances just won't allow it. :sad1::sad1:

Stay safe, have fun and most of all ........play nice

So glad to hear from you Izzie. I glad your family had a great party weekend and that the Barmitzvah was wonderful.
Just because you aren't coming on the cruise doesn't mean you can't drop in anytime you want. We miss you!:flower3:
