Well Joan is working all weekend. I have to take the puppy to the vet for a nail trim, move the rest of the branches downed by the ice storm to the curb (the city will be by on Sunday to pick them up) and going to a basketball game on Saturday.:)

I had our big old dog to the vet today. It wasn't fun, but on the plus side, he came home with me again, so we get to have him for a little while longer. He's going on 13 years old, and his hips and legs are giving him trouble. We started him on some NSAIDS, and he's doing better, but he had to go in for bloodwork to be sure his liver and kidneys were handling the meds OK.

Eh, yes and no. Started off not so good when nobody knew we were even having the meeting because the principal (who was the one who called me to schedule it) didn't actually schedule it. That really set me off. It did get better though and hopefully in the long run will be a success. Basically the high school was not following Alana's 504 Plan (like an IEP) the first semester. After not getting responses from the teachers or satisfatory responses from the counselor, I went right to the top of talked to the principal. He wasn't pleased with the staff. Due to their inaction on not following the 504, the grades for the 3 classes that Alana didn't pass 1st semester are being changed to a P (passing). I'm going to make sure i stress to Alana that she basically got a "Free Pass" this past semester and it WON'T be happening again. I will advocate for her when I feel it is neccessary, but she is responsible too.
The principal, counselor and I (with Alana there) talked to the majority of her teachers one on one today and we all know what we need to do for Alana to have success. The principal even wants me to include him in emails to teachers so he stays on top of this.
It's been a long struggle with Alana and school and I'm not going to allow her to fall between the cracks. She is a bright girl who has major troubles applying herself.

Aren't you so glad that you replied, Barb! ;)

We had Zack's IEP meeting yesterday. In the fall, they mentioned placing him back in the regular class for all of his work. They didn't realize that he's only been in the Resource Room for language arts since this time last year. He's generally a hard worker, and we were afraid that he would fall through the cracks too. Luckily, his 3rd grade teacher was excellent and pushed for the testing he needed. And I really like his 5th grade teacher and language arts teacher this year, so we're very lucky. But if we had to, we would stand up for Zack's rights (like we did last year) and like you had to do for Alana. Keep doing what you're doing!:grouphug:

WOO HOO!!!! :cool1:
Andrew and I are going to have an evening together ALONE tomorrow night! Alana is gong to be at a dance at school and Kathryn got invited to a sleepover!
When I told the girls that Andrew and I could go on a date, Kathryn said 'eww, that's gross!' :lmao: She said going to dinner and a movie are fine, but no smooching and no calling it a date! :rotfl2:

I really think we have twins that were separated at birth. The 2 girls are so much alike. Mine doesn't like to apply herself, and she has the brains to do it.
It's really a shame the teachers let the ball drop for so long and for something so important. Hopefully everything will be all set for the rest of HS and she won't get in the cracks again.
But you are right, she definately got a free pass and that probably won't happen again.

Actually, I'm not sorry I replied. :grouphug:
I think you might be right about the twins thing! It will be fun getting the 2 of them together, they sure do sound alot alike! We are going to have to start having kids get to know each other!
It's so hard when they have the brains, just don't want to use them.
Thanks for listening.

Thanks Mike  We've been fighting this battle every year since 3rd grade. (she's in 9th now) I'm just warning you it's gets harder once they are in middle school and high school. She's worth it though and that's why we keep it up. We believe in her and will help her however we can.
She and I cleaned her backpack out today! :scared1: Oh my, I'm really not sure how she ever found anything in there!

Mike, your ipods answers were so funny. :lmao:

Caro, too funny about Kathryn saying you can't call it a date tonight and has given you orders for no smooching. :rotfl:

I had an email from my friends last night and they said they would be joining us on the cruise. When they told their boys about it they said they were jumping all around the house and needless to say, they were extremely excited. So once they got them calmed down and the reality set in they were going on a cruise, the parents were very excited. Then the next day the middle son asked about this cruising stuff and where do you sleep and eat, once they explained to him how it all works he was totally excited all over again and the jumping around started all over again. :cool1:

It's going to be such a fun experience with them. :grouphug:

Yes it is.
They checked with their school connections and found out that the oldest should be finished with exams by then so it shouldn't be a problem.

How fun and exciting for them. Is this going to be their first cruise?

Yes, it will be their 1st cruise, and for the kids basically their first extensive trip. I know that dad has been to WDW, mom has been to D'land, oldest son went to D'land Paris on a school trip last spring. I don't think the youngest 2 have had any Disney interaction except for us and the UK Disney Stores. :rotfl: The oldest was here to visit when he was 9 months old, and then they have only traveled to France and possibly Scotland, so it will be a real experience for the kids.

Plus it will be my nephew's first trip abroad. It's going to be so fun seeing the cities thru their eyes.
Really looking forward to taking my nephew to the Tower of London, we really like it there. DD loves the armoury, she would stay in there for a week if we let her.

My brother and I were saying the same thing. My cousin's DD has way too much time on her hands and will send out like 20 a day and I have another friend that sends about 10 or so a day. I'm just being picky and doing what I like and not sending out that many and ignoring the rest.
