7/18/10 Mickey's Baltic Ballyhoo Part 6

Rather quiet here, I will keep talking to myself then, so you can come back later.

On other threads for the Baltic they have a competition for the best decorated Dis Door, who is going to Decorate theirs????

I do not do FE, but will have magnets.

For thoose going to Dover early, or with a few hours to spare, after check in you can walk to the town centre, we did this yesterday and its a nice town. I would recommend it with luggage but if you can check in the luggage, its about a 10>15 min walk to the shops.

Come out of terminal have ID as there is a security gate, walk to main road, only one way you can go, its over the railway line and right at the roundabout (A20). Then take a right, you go over the railway line again, and down along side the Marina cliffs on the other side, across another roundabout, and then down the road,( -you have an alternative here, you cloud o a right, go to the stone beach, and then left into town.).

But if you go direct, from the second roundabout there will be a third main roundabout and just after this a subway under the road for pedestrians. Go under the road, (left) and you walk up into the town centre, a paved area.

Here there was a market, many shops including Marks and Spencer for food, drink, wine, clothes, Mcdonalds, W H Smith for books and papers, we will be there Sunday so shops will open around 11am for six hours.

You can walk back via the roads as before, or at the subway go straight and you hit the beach, take a right, walk along beach, and then when you hit the road a right back to the A20.

You will see the Magic all the time from the road and beach.

PAUL/CELESTINE

There is security at the gate, its a small area post the security gate and limited space, therefore strong traiffc management in force, assume you have agreed to pull up at the terminal?? have they given a time, bet they will stagger arrivals.

I saw many taxis and little vans come in but best to check,-do you need a permit? or is ID ok?

Otherwise its a little walk with luggage, so best to check.

We are headed to Dover the day before the cruise departs. We are going to try and see the castle and walk around downtown. Any guidance on how long people generally spend at the castle?

I would give it at least a morning or afternoon, great views, I do not think its a full day event, the town is nice, a lot of shops, Canterbury is also close and well worth a visit, Leeds Castle is a bit further but also a great Castle, you spend longer in that one.

Just read the article ! Sign us up !!! I will be watching this very close. Plan to book 1st opportunity.... We LOVE Hawaii !!!

I have been to Hawaii went to Waikiki beach, first mistake, I was put off with the tourist ABC stores, the local guide called them All B******y corners, peal harbour was very good and the North of the Island is nice. We walked around Diamond head and enjoyed it.

Hawaii DCL cruises will have a lot of sea days, not sure if round trip or one way, or triangle via Alaska, but they have been planning this for years, I messed up and in August 2009, thought it was for 2011.

Shows you how long in advance they work things out, in 2007 in the Med, I was told about the Baltic, and first thought that was for 2009.

I usually do FE'S but not this time. Too busy having fun with our son, dil, and Grandsons !! I made some really cute things in Feb...and will again next March.

I don't know about competing. But I do have several magnets made for both our rooms. The cutest one has 6" letters, L I A M , deco w/ Mickey & friends in sailor outfits. My teenage Grandson has a U of Alabama mickey head which he'll like.

Still haven't decided about Tallin. Looking at your tour, Andrew. Sounds like a great day !

Bruce got our currency the other day. Mostly GBP and Euros and $50 Sweden & Copenhagen money. The last time we were in Copenhagen we went to the La Glace bakery and had to have kroner. Bruce would have been sick if he'd missed out on that Danish pastry !

Someone said our July 18 cruise has alot of empty cabins ??? Any truth to that ?

Spend some time on Maui and Kauai. We don't care for Waikiki. But the other islands are paradise ! We went tubing in Kauai...so much fun for a couple of "fuddy-duddies":rolleyes1

No truth in the empty cabins bit, the current cruise just sailed is reported to be about two thirds full, we have some rooms availability, nothing above Cat 5 at all, all lower some Cat 12s, but prices are still all very high, even Cat 12, which implies they are happy, now we could see some last minute bookings or panic on DCL, but i think the first Baltic will be an advert and will be so good, many will try to book ours last minute. We shall see.

This is one of many misleading posts I have seen, there are a few who *talk down* any European cruises, not sure why, but are anti DCL coming to Europe so say its not selling well but if so why does DCL keep coming back? The ATM one is another, and also Disembarkation times, with people posting from one cruise experience that they feel DCL has an issue, but having been on many cruiselines DCL disembarks the very very best.

Tallinn I am happy with mine had correspondence with concierge on all of mine and looks good, I want a full day in each port and see the most as possible so a tour is that, as DIY you always panic and go back early.

Food is included in 3 of 4 of my DCL trips so reducing the need for local currency, I will go for cards in the ports.

I am sure you are not fuddy-duddies, enjoy life to its full, I was told you are as young as a woman you feel, so feel a young one!!! ;):confused3

Hawaii, looks nice in all the photos, and I think we went to the wrong island, so as you say Maui and Kauai etc.

Its hard for us Hawaii is 11 hours off UK time. Honolulu, was a concrete jungle as I recall it and even the Elvis and George Micheal shows couldn't make it better.

If we had all of Europe at our "back door", like you have, I doubt I'd think much about Hawaii. We'd love to see Eastern Europe. And have not been to Venice or Greece. So much to see !!!

Venice is a must, anytime, can be done in 3>4 days.

Greece is so so nice in places such as Lindos, very special very relaxing.

And as you say 2>4 hours from me.

Andrew why are you posting so much for ? I already got the pirate:!:thumbsup2

As for Venice I will be there next year on the Magic! Carnival Magic!:lmao:

Have not been for a long time!:sad2:

Hawaii in September & May for a cruise line that prides itself on being family friendly DCL continues to mess with families it is hard to travel during school!

However we shall watch the dates to see if it can be worked in if it comes to pass!:idea:

Our door will be decorated along with our FE - the position of our cabin means unless you 'live' in one of those cabins there is no need to be there, so hopefully things will not go walking!

I like to keep things interesting here, why would you like me to go and you go back to quiet mode on the thread???? :goodvibes

I have never been interested in pirate: anyway, and by the way been posting on one of the other Baltic threads, the one just before us and having a nice communication with the guys there.

Venice is so so nice, uploaded my photos onto FB for that as well now. Loved it, everyone should go there at least once.

Yes, but we look at it *our* way, they look at it an income way. Limit when they do it, and you are forced to take kids out of school ,same as me for this cruise, what they want to do is sell cruises.

They will sandwich.

  • Mexican riviera.
  • Hawaii
  • Alaska

Well in 2009 of the people I knew loads were talking of it so much I got it wrong here and said it was 2011, after the rebuttal of Glacier bay and DCL saying it wasn't in their plans!!-even though I did post they still could go without it!

SO DCL want to fill ships allyear around they do not care about kids missing school its the same as free kids offeres etc, in school time its all done to tempt the parent to do it. Hawaii is basically wrapped around the Alaska cruise 'time' which is basically set and cant be moved.

Downside of mine at a major intersection, (Midship evevators, just under Goofy pool, arcade, Cove cafe, where kids go and have *meets*), and so Magnets get nicked or moved, most of ours have our stateroom number, so hopefully if we see it elsewhere we know it is ours. In 2009, we were given a gift by a disser of single letters on magnets that spell our names, each time we left and came back they were changed to swear words. Well sort of, the kids couldnt spell.

Yeah it is just not us!:dance3::grouphug:

We tend to try & stay under the radar!

:goodvibes

Well we might not be under the radar, there is DCL CCTV there on that area,!!!! So who does it is filmed! Not that they do anything!!!

I would not mind CCTV on my oldest DD! :3dglasses:happytv:

She is always pushing the DW & My buttons! Come to think of it DS does it as well but not as much!:sad2:

Ah but think of the nice Fathers day gifts you will get next weekend (just before the cruise), that show you they respect you so so much and appreciate your forthcoming total generosity (Credit card);on the cruise.

My fathers day cards, already written have their wish lists for the cruise inside to cut out the middle man.

So

When you wish upon a star,
You know you can push your Dad, so so far,
It doesnt matter how big you are,
As long as Dad has a big credit card,
You dreams, remember the arcade card,
Will,
Remember that dress, Ipod, I touch, soft plush toy,
Come,
Tru-ooooooooooooooooooooooooh-e.
