7/14/2014 - 12-Night Mediterranean Cruise (with Greece) Venice to Barcelona

Just found out about this board and joined tonight. Wife and two sons (8 & 3). Spending a couple days in Venice and then Barcelona / Madrid visiting friends. We're a military family stationed in the Netherlands; so we don't have too far to travel. We're really excited about the trip. Sent a request to join the FB page as well. Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone!

Nice, kids! Are you going to take a cruise in 2015 too? that would be so close to home! Where did you pick for Venice?

We have yet to book pre night and post night. I've been teasing the kids that we can sleep on the streets Europe. The crime rate is really low in Venice, right?

Nashville

DW just returned from Nashville day before yesterday, she stayed downtown and really enjoyed it. One of my favorite golf courses is there, the Springhouse, although it has been about 10 years since I last played it.

Hope we get some time onboard to visit.

Anyone hear who our Captain and Cruise Director will be ? Natalie is currently aboard but the other threads have her leaving on vacation sometime in June. Capt John is also due for leave but not sure if that means soon or closer to July. We have always had Capt Thord and Christian in the MED and would love to have them back for this trip. :boat:

When I talked with Brent in March (on the Magic) I think he said that he was coming back on her for the summer. I was joking with him that every sailing i've been on, he's been the cruise director for it, outside of the Fantasy, and that I can't listen to anyone else's accent on the ship PA.

Any who miss that accent, just check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qi64SBylJNU&list=PL9x7a13WV4D2n7qm_lNPAHhvrTnvE9xfs (DISUnplugged interview.)

Brent is very engaging and does not go on and on and on with his show introductions, look forward to his guidance.

We will be cruising with you from Venice! We are Disney faithful travelers on our 5th cruise. We have a daughter, 15, and son, 12. I have been following all of your posts and used some of your advice to book our excursions and tours. Thanks everyone.

Welcome!

Can any1 help me please my sister is going to be on this cruise. What is the best way and cheapest to get from the airport to the ship??? Thanks

I haven't started a written list, but more or less keep things in my head. We pack extremely light, and bring portable clotheslines, detergent, and such - not sure if you want my list. :scared1:

Frozen - land buses (bus #5) or taxis into Piazzale Roma are going to be the lowest cost options for her, then the water taxi or walk to get around the islands. There are a couple of great pages of information at:

http://goeurope.about.com/cs/venice/a/venice_trans.htm
and
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g...ly:Airport.Transfer.With.Heavy.Suitcases.html

In any case, make sure that suitcases are light, and you WILL be lugging them on cobblestone (durable wheels) and up and down steep bridges (light, pivoting suitcases) When you get to the destination, you may also encounter steep stairs, no elevator, or dark lighting conditions.

I hope that helps.

The water bus is $15 euro, this is how we are getting from airport to hotel. It happens to stop very near our hotel and we can take it to port as well but may have found a pre-scheduled water taxi for 85 euro to port for the 3 of us.

As for packing, how many dinner outfits are other ladies taking? I'm going to try to pack light, so I'm thinking 4-5 different dinner dresses (I like to get dressed up for dinner!). One of those dresses will be a bit dressier for formal nights (two of those, correct?)

We are less than two months away! Getting very excited!

I am planning on 1 long skirt with 2 tops for formal/semi-formal/Palo nights, another shorter skirt and a pair of capris that can be paired with maybe 3 or 4 other tops for casual nights. The skirt and capris will also be used for touring. I bring mostly light weight capris for touring so that I alway have knees covered for church entries. I have found they are just as comfortable as shorts. Everything except formal night clothing is easily washed and dried - by hand if necessary. We are also packing very light, so I will be wearing things more than once. We are doing some touring before the cruise that involves train and underground travel, so we are restricting ourselves to one checked bag and one backpack style carry on each.

I'm interested in this too. It seems impossible to not over-pack.

I'm thinking of using a company called Luggage Forward. They will pick up a bag from my house about 3 weeks before the cruise, and guarantee it'll be delivered to my stateroom.
Has anyone used them before or heard anything about them? :confused3

I'm curious too. It would make me a little nervousness, but I'd be very interested depending other other's feedback. Certainly it would make life easier when traveling with kids. How much does it cost?
