7/13 UPDATE If you need a car rental and have a Capital One No Hassle Rewards CC.....

Guys. Seriously. I just saved $200+ on my car rental for September using my Capital One No Hassle Rewards card. I didn't even know you could book travel online through your account- maybe it's new? Anyway, no cancellation fee, cheaper than Hotwire, Travelocity, Costco, and CarRentalSavers, at least for our dates. Got a week in September (MCO) with an intermediate size car for $179.84 total through Budget. The cheapest I have been able to find so far is $250+ for a compact!! Since there's no booking fee, I went ahead and booked it, and will keep looking for a lower price, but holy cow, that's not a bad price to start with! I didn't use any rewards points on the rental- just a credit card. I follow the Million Miles Secrets guy (I don't remember his name) and here is his post on it.

7/17/13 UPDATE!!! I just re-checked, and prices have come down to $128 for a week from Thrifty and Dollar. But, it was only if I reserved at 9:30am instead of 10am.... weird!! HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE!!

I've been trying to get my costs down for the 10 days that I will be in Orlando but without luck. I have the Chase Sapphire card and they have a similar booking portal. I could use my rewards points to pay for part or all of the reservation. But the cost/day is much more than what I currently have reserved with my Emerald Club membership and Entertainment coupon.

I'm just going to keep checking for better rates.

I think I may just use the Sapphire Rewards "pay yourself back" feature. In a nutshell, it allows you to apply your rewards points to any purchase made with your card when it appears on your statement.

I can book anywhere, pay for the rental using the card, and then use my rewards points to pay for the rental that way. In the long run, it might be the most affordable way to do it. I currently have enough points to pay for all but about $100 of the price of my current reservation. If I use the card a bit more between now and Sept. (and find a better rate), it's possible that I could get this rental for free.

Wow that's a good idea! I don't think Capital One has this feature. You have to either use the points available (and you have to have enough to pay for the rental) or you just have to use your CC (any CC) to pay. If you use your Capital One to pay for the rental, you do get points back, but not enough to cover the cost of the rental.

My Cap One Venture Miles card has this. They call it the purchase eraser. If you have enough points for a particular travel related charge, you can just apply the rewards and get a credit on your statement for the amount of the travel purchase. I do it all the time.

You know, what's interesting is that it was Travelocity, embedded in the CC rewards site. I opened up Travelocity in a seperate window to do a comparison to see if it was the same price, and it wasn't! Travelocity for the same car/dates/location/car rental agency was almost $200 more! Crazy.
