7/13/2016 Magic Copenhagen to Dover Geothermal Cruise

Hi Everyone!
We have booked this exciting cruise. Only 284 days until this cruise leaves! Iceland has always been on our to do list and doubly excited to see it on the Magic! We are: myself, hubby, 3 daughters Vanessa,18,Victoria,19 and Veronica 20. Also friends of ours are cruising as well. They are a family of 3. We (the 5 of us) will be starting our vacation in Paris and driving up to Copenhagen, visiting places we missed on earlier travels. And then we are staying in England for a few days after the cruise. Hubby is going to brave driving on the left side while in England!

Hello and welcome.

Sorry, I'm crashing this thread.

DISNEY FANTASY, would you mind if I asked you some questions about London? We are planing 6 days there next year, and I wanted some advice. Thanks!

Somehow, I can't send this to you as a private conversation, and I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll just ask a few quick questions:

1. We are Gordon Ramsey fans, mostly from watching Master Chef. Would you recommend going to his flagship restaurant in Chelsea, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, or one of his other places?
2. We are choristers in our Episcopal church, so we wanted to go to Evensong at Westminster and St. Paul's. How long, in general, are the services?
3. We are staying at the London House Hotel in Bayswater. Our tube stop is on the Circle line. How do we tell what direction the trains are going, since they don't have a terminus?

OK, that's it for now. Thanks!

Deb

1. We are Gordon Ramsey fans, mostly from watching Master Chef. Would you recommend going to his flagship restaurant in Chelsea, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, or one of his other places?

Well rule one is book early, they are all popular, book a table as in advance as you can online https://www.gordonramsayrestaurants.com/restaurants-and-bars/
The Chelsea one is very popular, it's hard to get to by train, Sloane Square and a bus or taxi. As the Flagship it's the place to be seen, and you have to book early. They on the website will direct you to alternatives in his portfolio. So book early. If you can get in, it's worth it.
2. We are choristers in our Episcopal church, so we wanted to go to Evensong at Westminster and St. Paul's. How long, in general, are the services?

Go to their website, there are different lengths from 30/45/60 minutes at different times if the day. The sixty minutes services on Sunday's are best.

https://www.stpauls.co.uk/

Times vary, St Pauls has a good coral eveningsong at 3.15 but summer and winter services may vary.

Westminster http://www.westminster-abbey.org/wo...CALENDAR_VIEW=day&SQ_CALENDAR_DATE=2015-10-18 for example on a Sunday has a 3 pm one, but get the early it's very popular.

3. We are staying at the London House Hotel in Bayswater. Our tube stop is on the Circle line. How do we tell what direction the trains are going, since they don't have a terminus?

OK, that's it for now.

image.jpeg

The circle line, the yellow line, or as we call it the lasso line now, starts in Hammersmith and loops through Paddington, Edgware Road, kings cross, Liverpool Street, Victoria to Edgware Road. When it gets there, it terminates then goes back anti clockwise from Edgware Road, > Victoria, Kings cross Edgware Road again then to Hammersmith.

I use Bayswater a lot but you can't get to far from it, , going East all trains terminate two stops up at Edgware Road where you have to walk over to other trains. It's ok for Paddington, that's it. Going South/West trains go to Notting Hill Gate, Kensington, Victoria or Wimbledon.
image.gif
The good news is you are not just limited to Bayswater, as Queensway tube is on the same street just one block away, there you have the Central line to Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Bank, and connections to every other line. Going West to Shepherd's Bush you have a massive Mall at Westfield outside the station.

They are a stones throw apart, Queensway is dependent tube so you have elevators to go down to the tube , not escalators down.

If using Bayswater it's easy to know which way the trains are going, from the ticket office if you go down the right side stairs, all trains go to Edgware Road only via Paddington, if you go down the left hand stairs, indicator boards on the platform and on the front and sides of all train cars show the destinations. Either District line to Wimbledon, or it will say circle line via Victoria, as the train goes around the circle it updates, so the circle line via Tower Hill and Liverpool Street, then circle line via Kings cross, then on the last bit, it will say circle line to Hammersmith.

But to get to city and west end fast, use the central line at Queensway or the buses there. At Quuensway.

No kidding! The kids' choirmaster, who is originally from England, told us to book the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower early. Good thing - it is completed booked through April, and many dates in June, 2016 are already full!

We will be there for 6 full days, and plan to use the Tube pretty much every day. How much money should we put into it? I understand that we can always top it off with more if needed.

Work on £10/£12 PD for each adult , if you travel each day and will start before 9.30am. There is a " cap" at £12 PD, so you can't go over that, based on Zone1 central London. If going out of town, like Heathrow by Piccadilly line, or Hampton Court, it would be more.

Weekends would be off peak all day so slightly less.
Kids below 10 are free.

Do book as early as you can on the popular attractions.

Please add us to the list we will be arriving from Australia and had lots of fun with fish extenders this year on the wonder to Hawaii
