try swimmers goggles. The kind with no strap. Avoids soap in eyes too.

glad to hear all is well. A friend had similar surgery 5yrs ago. At your point in time she still had problems, especially with swallowing, and they thought she might never get this back. But one year in she was nearly back to normal. She still tired a bit more easily but facial paralysis was gone. Also the problems she had with finding the right words, etc.. went away with time. Dr. said other areas of the brain compensated for the lost areas. She did end up with permanent sight loss on one side. But as bad as that is, it's not as bad as the worst case scenarios she was given before her surgery. Glad to hear you are keeping a good outlook. You may surprise your dr's and therapists.

I wish you felt better, I don't think you need to apologize for the changes in you. You are still the same person, if there are people who can't see that shame on them. Who you are on the outside is only a small thing, don't let that hold you back. Please feel good about yourself no matter what. I realize that is easier said than done and I haven't been in your shoes but I wish there was a way I could take away all the people that might look at you wrong to make you feel uncomfortable.

Lots of PD coming your way. Sometimes life's paths can be almost too difficult to travel, but we must travel on.

You are in my prayers. That each new day will be better then yesterday.

(((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) to you Pembo....I can't even imagine what you are up against....

It makes us all realize how much we take for granted.

I cant even imagine having to go thru this, Im rooting for you

MIL had accoustic neuroma surgery about 7 years ago. She had facial paralysis on one side of her face initially but it began to lessen after about 6 months post-op. At 3 months post-op, MIL's condition was not good (facial paralysis, lots of dizziness, sight issues, etc.). However, MIL was almost completely recovered by 1 year post-op. She still has some hearing loss of the ear near the tumor but she gets by without a hearing aid.

I hope for you that your recovery is similar to my MIL's recovery, and that over the next 6 months or so, you will notice how far down the road to recovery you have gone. Hang in there.

:hug:s to you!

I can't always think of the right word to say. I don't say what I mean sometimes.

If it makes you feel any better I'm like that almost daily.

Pembo, you have been through so much and have got a lot more to deal with on a regular basis. You are an inspiration. I hope things get easier for you as time goes on.

Pembo, I'm so glad you are staring to feel better. I understand very well how you are feeling right now, and I have to tell you it will get better, but it will take time.
I still can't feel the left half of my chin or my left ear more than 2 years after my surgery, but the muscles on the left side of my face work now. It took a good 6 months to start feeling "normal" again though.
A couple weeks ago I apparently cut my ear somehow, and didn't know because I can't feel it, so I didn't realize it until my DH saw blood running down my ear. I just have to be more careful about those things, as you will, but I promise it will get better! I think the swim goggles are a great idea for washing your hair, at least for a while!

Stay strong, and my thoughts are with you!

Lisa

Pembo, thank you so much for your update. {{{{HUGS}}}} I can't even imagine the every day difficulties that you face, but you are right that it could be worse. Be thankful for every day and we will pray that each day gives you back a little bit more of what you lost.

Pembo, I can't believe it's been 3 months. You have such great inner strength, I know it will get better for you..Give it a little time. I know, easy for me to say, but I just know that it will get better. God Bless you..

Three months already! Wow! Sounds like you are making GREAT progress! I'm sure it feels like it's taking forever, but just think of how much you have already overcome. You are one strong woman. And we are all behind you 100%!
