I guess I didn't get an upgrade after all. Just got my documents and we've been assigned room 6147. On the bright side it's a handicapped room so there's lots of room. On the not so bright side...it's like the last room on the back of the boat. Are we gonna be hurlin' the whole time or what?

Also...I wonder why we've been assigned a handicapped room.....I would think that on such a full ship there'd be someone really needing it.

Oh well...we're going on a Mickey Ship!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

When you see your room you'll be very happy that they gave you a handicapped room. That room is twice the size of a regular inside stateroom. We were in 6150, 6152, & 6154 last year (a huge handicapped stateroom ) Those rooms are right across the hall from yours. As for being in the aft section it's great, very quiet, a lot more privacy. We went back this year on the 4 Day Wonder & stayed in the aft section again. We didn't feel any movement at all until the last night when the seas were a little rough, but it was just a gentle rocking movement. Enjoy your cruise!!! Beware the Accessible stateroom avenger.....

You'll have tons of room for luggage! We had 6147 on the 2/29 sailing. AND...you're so close to deck 7...it took us a few days before we found that quiet place! It's a great room!

"How about carrying my leg brace"

Only if you are done using it to beat people over the head with.

I am sure that your life has challenges. My mother contracted polio at age 3 and has had residual problems as one leg is substantially shorter than the other. She steadfastly refuses to avail herself of things she is perfectly entitled to, like H/c parking permits, because, in her words "other people need them worse than I". I vehemently defend the rights of H/C people to have their lawful parking places, and have confronted people in lots if necessary.

This is twice in the last week that you've attacked individuals regarding handicapped rooms. Bostonlass didn't ask to be assigned this room, it was assigned to her, just a few weeks prior to boarding. I would assume that they would hold out this room until the last minute, just in case a person required this room. In the other attack, the poster (aprilgail2) indicated that they received the room as the result of her godson's terminal illness, which the poor child died from prior to the cruise. Following this post, you could have apologized to her for your attack, but you chose not to.

Please don't assume that being assigned a handicapped room makes one an evil person.

Bostonlass: I applaud you for taking the high road. Have a wonderful cruise.

The verandas on the disability staterooms are also very large, and you'll enjoy the extra room.

On some of the other commentary...I think the stateroom being utilized is better than being empty, IF there is no one else needing it. DCL gave it to you without prompting, and you have nothing to be ashamed of. Likewise, if DCL asked you to surrender the room I'm certain you would gladly comply. Some people see accomodation as entitlement, which was certainly not what ADA was all about (and ADA doesn't even apply to crusie ships, of foreign registry, or maritime law). Keep in mind that use of designated space is a sensitive issue with some folks, and take no offense if they critcize because they have a right to do that. Likewise, you have a right to enjoy your windfall so long as it doen't intrude upon others, which in this case DCL has determined it hasn't - for now.

Enjoy your cruise and the nice stateroom.

Tsk, tsk
One of the things I'm sure your mother has learned, as have most people, is that horrible situations can be the source of endless humor. If I chose to think of a brace as mere luggage who are you to give it more importance than that?
I'd like to think that I could still do a Rockettes "high kick" but, alas...Perhaps, if you have not kept up with the running themes of the latest handi-comix, you are unaware of the handi-avenger who swoops down on illegally parked autos and gifts them with a blue ribbon for courage....
Too bad, I guess, for your lack of experience in these things...just don't expect me to adhere to your embarassed reactions to DCL's decisions as to how they chose to assign their staterooms. It is not the person who boasts of landing a handicapped stateroom but DCL, who assigns the rooms, who should be a target of ill will if there were any. Perhaps you are a little too sensitive to the issue....Well, lighten up.

 I don't understand the animosity?

I was assigned a handicapped stateroom on my first DCL cruise many years ago... I certainly did not REQUEST it nor would I have been upset to be moved elsewhere if a disabled person needed the room. It was DCL's discretion and decision as to where I was assigned. And honestly, I prefer the "clear" verandah to the metal ones that are part of the disabled staterooms.

Bottom line, if someone is in NEED of those rooms then they should have them, no doubt about that. If there is no one sailing that needs or requested those rooms, then what is the problem?

Please!! This is not the Debate Board. Please contribute in a civil manner, and no further personal attacks. Thank you for your cooperation!

When bostonlass boards, isn't there a chance her room could have been changed again if the room was a necessity for another passenger? I don't understand how it is bad that she was assigned this room for the time being.

I guess I'm just confused about this supposed 'problem.'

There really IS no problem, it is just one person making problems here....when we no longer had a handicap child coming with us on our cruise, I called Disney to inform them and let them know that we didn't need a handicap room anymore and they told us to keep it and if they needed it they would let us know....they must not have needed it or they would have moved us.

Know what? It's a non-issue. Just called expedia and requested that they put me back on a "guarantee status". I don't want to have the same animosity on the ship as I am feeling from videogal. I'm not up on the latest humor so I'd surely take it the wrong way.

Besides...there's no tub so my kids would freak since they've never taken a shower.

Now................where was I? Oh yeah!!! I'm goin' on a Mickey Ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Excellent attitude! :sunny:

HAPPY SAILING! :) :boat:

Bostonlass--You and the girls are going to have a great time regadless of the room you have. Take a deep breath and know that in 16 days you will be on vacation--I'll send my cabana boy ahead of me, so he will be there for your arrival:) ...Lee

Apparantly videogal1's handicap is some form of personality disorder. How sad.
