Hi,

I thought I understood all the rules when we entered in to DVC. However I am now confused. We bought in last year but have not had a DVC stay yet. Our use year is August.

We just received our Vacation Magic "newsletter" {?}. I read in it about the 60 day rule. I am confused. If my use year is August, does this mean I can only travel 10 months out of the year? I cannot travel in June or July?

Originally I thought the 60 day rule pertained to traveling outside of the Disneyworld resorts. That's not the way I read it, now.

Can someone clarify this for me?

I would appreciate any input!

Thanks,
Mary

Think of it as the double 60 day rule: you can't BOTH book and stay at a non-DVC WDW resort in the last 60 days of your UY using your points.

With an AUG UY, you cannot book and stay at a non-DVC WDW resort in June or July, but if you make your ressie for a non-DVC resort in May or sooner, you can stay in June or July. Or you can book and travel in June or July if you stay at a DVC resort. Finally, you can also book and travel in June or July and stay at a Disneyland resort hotel.

Hope this helps. -- Suzanne

The reason for this, theoretically, it that for points used outside of DVC resorts they want the "commitment" of those points farther out than 60 days...points used at non-DVC resorts change status and are turned over to CRO for cash ressies in order to recoup the money DVC pays to the non-DVC resort. The longer CRO has control of the points, the better the chance for DVC to recoup those costs.

Whereas, if you still have points left in your account at 60 days before the end of your use year, the situation then boils down to use them at a DVC resort (if available) or lose them.

Thank you for your replies. That is originally what I thought, basically you can use them at a WDW resort during the last 60 days.

I just got confused when I read the article.

I knew I would get the answers I need here - in plain speak.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can stay outside of the DVC resorts in June or July, but you must make the reservation before June 1.

I though II was included - you can only stay at DVC resort or II in your last 60 days if you are making the reservation in the last 60 days....

now if you make your reservation in April - then you can stay where you want in june or july....
