6 year-old with pneumonia....

I can honestly say I have had pneumonia too many times to count and there are definitely different "levels" of how sick one can be. Sometimes, when caught quite early, I was feeling nothing more than a little tired -- but since I was medicated, got better quickly. Sometimes, however, I would be "sick as a dog", as you put it.

As long as the little guy (6 y/o) wasn't "sick as a dog", he's probably still bouncing around -- kids are quite resilient.

.

Well, that was kinda my point

I think it can really vary. Fishing isn't exactly a physically intensive activity...mostly sitting so from that perspective I can see it not being a big deal.

That said my best friend got pneumonia when we were in our mid 20s and it completely kicked his behind. He was so so so sick. Lost something like 20lbs (he is big guy close to 6'5" and over 200lbs so 20lbs for him wasn't as much as it might be for others) because he didn't have an appetite at all and one of the antibiotics he was given made him either sick to his stomach or throwing up. He was weak and tired and absolutely miserable. I believe he missed about 2 or more weeks of work because of it.

I have had it so many times but it usually really knocks me out. Maybe because usually I still have to get supper ready, clean the house and look after the kids. The last time I had the H1N1 flu as well as pnumonia. The time before that my Mil had come the day I really got sick. My dd brought her 2 kids her and they all were wanting supper. I got it for them and then went back to the couch. That was the first time I was almost begging my dd to go home but my mil wanted them to stay as she hadn't seen the kids before. If it isn't a long walk to the fishing hole maybe going fishing isn't so bad especially if there is a nice place to lay down while you fish...oh that last part was my wish LOL

I had pneumonia for my 12th birthday (great present that year :lmao:). I think it was 4-5 days post antibiotics that I really started to perk up. Of course I might have been slowed down after having an allergic reaction to my first antibiotic and becoming covered in a rash. I ended up missing about 2 weeks of school from the time I got sick until I went back. I was on school restriction though (no recess, no PE) as they wanted to allow me more time to heal. I think I almost needed another week home, but my Mom didn't want me missing anymore school.

Both of my parents have had penumonia as well and they always take time. The worst was the time my Dad got it and wpent from the day after Christmas to New Years Eve in the hospital. It was only after about 3 days that he really started to perk up in the hospital.

I can't see the fishing, but I am more cautious, and it sounds like others have had better experiences with meds kicking in faster than me.

I had it this fall. Took off 2 days while the antibiotics worked into my system then went back to work. I was dogmeat when I got home every night but I got through it. More importantly, I wasn't contagious so I wasn't putting anyone else at risk.

There are different degreees of pneumonia. Also viral vs bacterial.

DD was in PICU for a week with viral pneumonia. Twice. Again two other times for 2 days each.

Walking pneumonia can often be recovered from rather quickly and since fishing is a dedentary activity, it seems pretty harmless to me.

My co-worker is leaving work, at noon, to take this kid fishing.

Maybe he has a job interview and he doesn't want to tell anyone.

Maybe he is having a medical procedure he doesn't want to share.

Maybe it could be anything and the fishing story is just a red herring, (see what I did there?)

Perhaps he already cleared it with the doctor, all it would take is a quick phone call. Pneumonia still kills people of all ages. Would not want a set back in recovery. Just call the doctor.

My dd just recently had pneumonia. She started her course of antibiotics on a Tuesday, and by her Thursday check she was all clear. The doc even told her to go out and get some fresh air :)
