6 Year Old Trapped in a Balloon. Boy Found Alive - Hiding at Home!

Did anybody notice when you watch the video where the kid said that "it was done for the show" that immediately after the boy says that, at :43, you can hear a big farting noise? I kid you not, listen carefully, it sounds a lot like daddy crapped his pants when he got busted. :rotfl:

Having seen this family on Wife Swap, I called it as a hoax early on and didn't worry much about the kid...I knew he would be just fine. I just watched the episode with them not long ago and I thought they were one of the biggest bunch of idiots I ever saw. :sad2:

They also did a story on who would be paying for everything. They had 2 National Guard helicopers in the air plus the news helicopter. The med evac helicopter nearby all day plus all the police and rescuers and searchers. They said it would be the taxpayers who would fit the bill because the police didn't think it was a hoax. I hope the investivators do a little more questioning tomorrow.

If this was a hoax, let's hope that all of the people/equipment used wasn't needed by someone with a real emergency at the time.

I was just watching the local news here in Denver. They showed clips of Larry King. It was definately odd. After the boy was asked why he was in the attic you can see mom look at him and nod almost like it was a nod of approval.

I wonder how much the search cost. It must have totaled quite a bit! :sad2:

I think there are a lot of people out there who either have a vested interest, or for some other reason, would prefer that this was a hoax. I know, for example, that the tabloid news programs would just love the ability to keep this story rolling for weeks, trafficking in hoax rumors and other ominous accusations, and otherwise working to try to legitimize those accusations to parlay this story into months of shock-sensationalism. A young child goofs and then hides -- that'll only pull in the viewers for a day or two. Turn it into a big conspiracy, and everyone gets to go to Cabo on vacation on the bonus money.

Sorry--but news helicopters are not entitled to reimbursement for following a story that turns out to be a dud.

Everyone else okay--but news helicopters....Big Fat NO reimbursement by any agency.

Like the runaway bride--if it is later determined to be a hoax, then the rescue agencies can seek reimbursement. The runaway bride had to pay something, though I don't recall what.

I don't remember a figure either. IIRC I think I read she had to do some community service too.

Has it been determined how much weight that balloon invention could carry? The father should have known that & if it couldn't hold the weight of a 6 year old, then something's not right.

I don't think this is a matter of the boy goofing and hiding, I think it's a matter of daddy TELLING him to hide.

I for one am finding this bizarre human behavior fascinating. Call it a guilty pleasure, I like Judge Judy, too!

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2::laughing:

I heard that too, but assumed it was one of the other boys just being a boy.

True...however, I've yet to think of a good explanation for the exchange on CNN. I do not believe the parents and I think they did this to get back on television, to promote their aircraft, or to get publicity for some other reason.

I think it is far more important to defer to real evidence than to fly off the handle about what a young boy on national television could have meant by a vague, indeterminate half-sentence. The reality is that speculating about this does nothing but make the job of authorities to get to the truth harder. And with such speculation fostering a media frenzy, as it is, forget about ever getting a fair trial if there actually ends up being evidence of foul play.

Did anyone see them on the GMA interview this morning? When asked about his comment on Larry King, the boy suddenly got sick. He got up from the interview and went into the bathroom. Hmmm.........
You can watch it here: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA

IF this was a HOAX, it is SHAMEFUL, disgusting and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. So many people could have been hurt or otherwise...rushing to a scene, searching, tracking it, all the $$$$$ and manpower that could have been used elsewhere. I am just so disgusted by the parents! Parading their kids on TV last night and making more rounds today.....that does not sound "typical" to me!
IMHO, I think it was a HOAX by the parents and hope THEY are investigated by law enforcement, child services and more..............
Poor kids to grow up with THAT as examples of parenthood!

Did you hear the neighbor that came out "early on" while it was still "flying" and he said he heard a huge commotion, then went to see two boys up on their ROOF with CAMERAS and screaming...as the thing flew away.???? WAY to strange...WHY would they be up on the roof with CAMERAS?

Poor kids to grow up with THAT as examples of parenthood!

If it was a stunt...that's sick.

Truthfully, though, having watched the interview, the boy may have been a little confused. He sounds like he might be trying to say that they are there (being interviewed) because of the show. I know my son, at 6, would get very mixed up and give very weird answers when he was uncomfortable and being 'grilled' over and over again to explain himself.

I'm not saying that it's definitely not a hoax...but I wouldn't judge the situation based off of what a 6 yr old, that has had to answer a lot of uncomfortable questions (over and over again...sometimes in front of a camera) says.

Jess

Anyone watch the interview and watch (GMA) the Siblings reaction when the kid says "cause of a show"...interesting that they look to the mom, like UH OH....
Also interesting that a mom who "allegedly almost lost her kid" hears her kid say...Mom, I am sick..and she sits there and ignores him....she does not even get up to check him.......when the child gets up after being prodded (which is by the way when they asked him WHY he just said that it was for a show) to to go vomit, she STILL just sits there......?????
She literally did not get up until Diane Sawyer says something like, , Mayumi, who is with that child, You should go.....
THAT family is strange indeed and I think that the father is behind the whole thing...with a mom that is "lost in space herself" and kids trying to appease their dad but looking to mom as their "escape"...just my read.........sad situation!!! :sad2:

I agree.

The parents, the more we get to know them, are very weird, no doubt about it. However, I will choose to believe the Larimer County Sheriff and the rest of the staff that spent the entire day with the famiily when they say that the parents' emotions were real and that they are convinced that this was not a hoax.

IF it was a hoax, then shame on them and yes, they should pay.

Under pressure, the Sheriff's department have agreed to reinterview the family, so a final determination should be coming soon.

That said, I do have some reservations about the story. But not over what Falcon said.

What 6 year old, when scared, has the presence of mind to pack a snack and toys before heading up to the attic to hide?

And it does seem a bit strange that he miraculously showed up right when the expensive part of the investigation was starting. He was found immediately after it was announced that Search and Rescue was called out. In Colorado, the search and rescue teams typically do charge something even if the person is found. They do so many searches in the mountains that they have to recoup their costs somehow. So, one has to go "hmmmm" when the boy decides to come out of the attic at the precise time that all the rescue organizations are being called out.

If it was a hoax, I am more inclined to believe that the boys were playing some sort of prank on the parents and it got way, way out of hand.

I agree! This is what my mind keeps coming back to. All the authorities that spent so much time with that family while the balloon was up in the air. If they suspected the famlies actions it would have been picked up by someone. The authorities are convinced this was not a hoax.

As far as the little boy feeling sick and vomiting. The dad did explain he has asthma and you can hear it (coughing, phlegm) in the beginning of the interview prior to 'the question' asked by Sawyer. My son vomits with his asthma all the time.

The mom not responding to her little boy when he said he had to vomit did tick me off though! They are odd but that doesn't make them guilty of anything.
