6 degrees of DVC -- Can we make this happen?

My neighbors, who happen to be DVC members, are going down to Disney later this week. They will be staying through the weekend. Their 9 year old son has cancer and is experiencing some crappy side effects of treatment right now. Despite this, he is 100% happy all of the time.

My relationship with the family goes back a few years, as I was the son's at-home tutor when he couldn't go to school in first grade. Two years later, I was his teacher. To this day, he stops by my classroom every day after school. Our most common subject is Disney World, as well as the tv show Once Upon a Time. In fact, we watched the trailer to Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (new show this fall) after school today.

I was texting with the mother tonight and asked her if they had ever done a Wishes cruise or watched Wishes from the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party. They have never done either.

CAN WE MAKE THIS HAPPEN?

Does anyone have a contact at Disney who can help us send this family to a super cool fireworks experience that they will never forget? If you can help, please inbox me.

Are you looking to pay for it for them? Or looking for Disney to do it for free? With only a few days notice (and a holiday weekend), it may not be possible anyway. If you were planning on paying, have you tried just calling Disney reservations and seeing if there are any openings?

I was hoping Disney would treat them to something special, not necessarily what I proposed. I was going to see if some friends would join me in paying for the dessert party, but nothing was available when I checked the online reservations during their trip.

Disney has a way of making all of our trips extra special, so I thought that perhaps, if the request got into the right hands, they could do something extra special for this family.

Not trying to be discouraging, because you have such good intentions, but those types of things are usually worked through something like the Make A Wish foundation or Give Kids the World, as far as I know, not by individuals contacting Disney themselves. I don't personally have any good advice for you.

I figured, but worth a try. Seeing him yesterday made me want to try something.

Well, I thought it was a long shot......but as usual, Disney doesn't disappoint. Through a little "six degrees" thing, I was able to reach out to someone a bit high on the Disney food chain, and she arranged for something nice for his family. Nothing major, but a nice little sprinkling of Disney magic. I don't want to say what it is since I am not sure if she was bypassing some channels or simply doing something that Disney allows its employees to do, but it was very much appreciated.

After I posted the initial post, I sat back and thought "Maybe it was indeed stupid to post this request at the last minute," but then I thought about all the times that Disney exceeded my expectations and figured that I would wait it out and see what happened. Well, once again, Disney exceeded my expectations.

This company isn't perfect, but as far as companies go, they are pretty darn close. I have never regretted buying into DVC, but today I am even happier that I made that decision and continue to spend so much of my money on Disney property.

Awesome to hear! I hope they have a great trip and enjoy their little extra surprise.

I am glad that this family will get a little extra pixie dust on their upcoming trip, and kudos to you for reaching out. :thumbsup2

That's good news! Be sure to give us an update to let us know how it all went over. Children deserve these kind of special experiences and it is great that you took the time to make this happen! I'm sure it will be something that they will never forget!!

What a nice idea! You are very thoughtful to go out of your way for this family. Hope it is a wonderful surprise for them. :)
