Our Grand Gathering was set. Families from Texas, Ohio and Virginia....19 of us in all. 15 of us staying at FW with the other 4 staying at one of the other resorts.
Man, it's a dang long drive from Texas...wow! Arrive on Saturday, minimal problems with check in at FW campground. Found our site in Loop 1400 and the ugly part of the trip reared it's head. We've got a 31' Travel Trailer being towed by a full size crew cab pick up truck. So, all total, we've got about 45' of vehicle to manuever. Lot's of problems getting our trailer into the campsite, but after a bit of very careful manuevering...got it! Hot dang, we're campin' at Disney. We traveled from Texas with one other family and when we all got settled, went over to greet the friends from Ohio and Viriginia.
It didn't take long and we were off to MK for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Great time for everyone, even the teenagers.
Over the next several days, made the rounds to all the rest of the parks, no need to go over all the details. We all had a great time.
Some of the interesting things on our trip.
1. We are in the sportswear business and had nice red hats made up for our group which was great. It was easy to find others in our group when we separated.
2. One evening after a very long day, we were on the ferry from MK back to FW...everyone on the boat had long faces and were obviously pooped. Being the shy guy that I am, decided it was time to sing some Disney toons. Started off with Zipety Do Dah and finally got the boat rocking. By the time we docked, most people had a great smile on their faces. Remember, it's the happiest celebration on earth!
3. Soarin' at Epcot is THE BOMB..sorry, I'm about to turn 40 and had a juvenile moment there. Anyways, Soarin' is without a doubt, the best dang thing I have ever been on. Just WOW.
4. While at MGM, we were watching Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show. Of course, it was raining...AGAIN! LOL. They stopped the show for a bit and then decided to resume the show even though it was raining pretty hard. That's when one of the cars slid into one of the buildings and crashed the car. Not a bad crash. It was cool...thanks to the rain, we got a bonus at this show!
5. Had a great group pic taken at MGM.
6. Absolutely FANTASTIC meal at L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante at Epcot. I can't say enough about this place, the food was terrific and Olive Oil to die for. Our server was the best and handled a table of 24 with ease (Yep, four more friends from Orlando joined us for dinner.)
7. Dinner twice at Hollywood and Vine at MGM. Had a great time...same waitress both times. I called her Alice the first night and she did not seem amused. Not deterred, I called her Alice the second time and she laughed and pointed at me saying "You again!". Then she called out for "Flo", laughed and walked away! Food was pretty good.
8. Dinner one night at the California Grill at the Contemporary. Well, I'm not a swanky guy and this place was swanky. Expensive...very small portion...food was just OK and the service was not very good. We had 19 people again and the server couldn't carry a candle to the guy we had at Epcot. With all of us at dinner, we spent about $1500.00 for dinner with drinks and dessert. Honestly, this to us was the worst part of the trip. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful, but with that kind of mula...we should have flown with Tink because the food was soooooooo good!
9. Another singning night on the tram after the park closed at MGM. Got the train to rockin' and even had the sweetest little princess wave at us when she got off the train. A magical moment indeed.
10. WAY too many people in June. Heat we can handle but the huge crowds were a bit much. That'll learn us! LOL EMH were a joke...wouldn't do that again. I swear there were 751,389 people at each park! Ok, maybe not that many, but there were a boatload.
11. We didn't get the meal plan and after figuring up our total food bill, we're glad we didn't. We enjoyed all the food we wanted and still didn't spend what the plan would have cost us. It might be good for some but it worked out for us.
That's about enough I guess...don't want you to nod off now. So, we had a great time...the kids had a great time...made it back home safe and sound and have memories and new friends to last a life time.
If any of you sang with us on the boat or the tram...thanks for being such good sports.
If you saw us walking around with our Red Mouse Caps on...wave and say hello.
