I just remembered that http://www.wdwmagic.com has photos of an olf (mid-1990s) masterplan of Walt Disney World that indicated the locations of future projects. Most interesting are an expansion for the Disney-MGM Studios, and the location for a future theme park (assumed to be the 5th), as well as several new MK resorts, and the route for the Western Beltway.

The exact link is http://www.disney.force9.co.uk/master.htm

This Master Plan used to be located in a building by the TTC. I keep forgetting, So I'll ask Safari Steve, OWTS and the other cast members If it has been moved, or removed. To the best of my knoweldge it was still there a few years ago.

The only two old master plan illustrations I've seen are of the MK area from the late 60's/early 70's. They are located in the MK "Mouse Pad" computer lab, and in the restroom corridor at Comedy Warehouse. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

In one of the classrooms at Disney University there is a master plan from 1993. The only things I remember being on there are a monorail expansion to the studios and two proposed theme park sites. One of those sites is now Animal Kingdom and the other is the Wide World of Sports.

BTW I believe that on the www.wdwmagic.com master plan the red area south of the Studios is where the Pop Century resort is going but I could be mistaken because I am not used to the orientation they are using.

OWTS,

That red area is the land west of Wide World of Sports. If you are coming from Animal Kingdom, and pass World Drive and look right - into the trees, there is a huge portion of land that was cleared (now has piles of logs). This is the space that is red on the map. I now hear that part of this land is going to be used as an ESPN X-Games type of sports camp geared towards teenagers (got that from the Sentinel - because you know they are always right!). I have heard a lot of rumors about what was supposed to go in there - 5th Gate, 4th Water Park, etc. Unfortunately, nothing was ever announced.

So, if you are looking at the third picture down on the Master Plan page -from left to right- it goes DAK Lodge (pink), DAK (red), Blizzard Beach (red), rumored extension of MGM (red), Cleared land west of DWWS (red). And if you look closely where the glare from the flash is, there is a large pink area that is now Coronado Springs. So, the master plan has been very accurate so far! I'm excited to see what goes into our empty red spots!
