5th Annual Christmas Shopping Thread

I just finished putting together an idea I had for the grandkids. I went to the craft stores on BF and bought wooden letters, small wooden shapes, paint brushes , smocks and acrylic paints. I also ordered some paintable cars, piggy banks, cupcakes, bugs etc from Oriental Trading, along with craft mats. I purchased a Craftsman tool box for DGS6 to put it in. Not sure yet what I will use for the girls boxes. My DD11 was excited and wants one too. AC moore has signs for $1 that say love, friends, etc and she loves to paint them ( and add glitter while the paint is wet)

Hope someone can use the idea.

Good job!! I feel like I'll never be done. I saw a great deal someone posted on the budget board today, joann.com has smash journals and accessories on sale and there's a free ship no minimum code on their home page. I picked up a journal and a bunch of accessories for DD16 for $23.xx.

I am so close to being done! I need an idea from DH's grandma, and I have to pick up some mock turtlenecks that FIL asked for, and then I'm done!

Today I bought FIL a salt sampler pack from World Market, on a whim...he fancies himself a good cook and is really into gourmet food, so I hope he'll appreciate it (though normally when I go out in a limb like this, it bites me in the butt). http://www.worldmarket.com/product/signature+salt+sampler,+5+pack.do

Then for his girlfriend- she just retired a month ago and has several trips planned. But she isn't really a seasoned traveler. So I bought her a nice sleep mask, a clear toiletry bag + clear 3 oz bottles for getting toiletries through security, and a travel alarm clock. Hopefully she at least pretends to like it.

I got some good bargains at Walmart on Black Friday. It wasnt too crazy and things were all opened and ready to grab well before 8pm. We got everything we wanted, yea!

On Amazon I ordered DH a Xbox and Kinect with the 2 games and a 3 month gold subscription to Xbox live. Then today I found the Avengers Xbox game he wanted on Amazon for 29.99 vs. 49.99. I love bargains! :yay: I think I am going to get him an older version of Halo and Call of Duty and see which one he really likes before we spend 60 bucks on one he may or may not like. We have a Wii and a PS3, but we are new to Xbox.

My 3 year old is begging Santa for a jump house, and I found the Little Tikes Jump and Slide Bounce House at Walmart for 200. It was 220 I think at Toys R Us. I went to go buy it today and it was down to 180 at Walmart! Woot!!!
All I have to get her is an Our Generation doll and she is done.

My 9 year old is done with the exception of my (hopefully) big order at American Girl tonight. I am really hoping for some awesome deals.

My 11 year old is almost done but she is a few gifts behind. I may just get her a few extra AG things tonight so her and her sisters all have the same amount of gifts to open on Christmas. She is usually really easy to buy for but for some reason she is harder this year. I may get her the Project Runway Fashion design set at Toys R Us. I would love to get her a real full size dress manequin but man, they aren't cheap.

The baby is done. My kids have huge 3 1/2 ft. stocking and I only have a few small toys to put in hers. So..... Santa is bringing diapers and wipes and yogurt melts and things like that for her. Mean Santa...... ;)

My hubbys job finally released him so he could come home for a few days before he starts his new job. He is in Minnesota now, has to drive back here to Florida and be in North Carolina for work on Dec. 3rd! It will be busy but atleast we will be able to put the tree up as a family. 6 more months and we will be back together all under one roof. Its the BEST Christmas gift I could ever ask for. He travels for work and is away from home 7-9 months a year. At his new job he will be home every night. It is such a blessing! :woohoo:

Has everyone decorated yet and have their trees up?

What a weekend! I was able to purchase the rest of my gifts. Can say that I am done with the exception of my mother in law. I have no idea what to give her.
Got my dd18 a gift card tree for her big gift. Other gifts include sewing machine case on rollers, pjs, panties, perfume, dvds, an outfit, caboodles hair box.
For dd12 a 32 in tv and wall mount. Other gifts: itunes gift card, portable ipod speakers, panties, dvd, art set, purse, tuner and cleaning kit for her trumpet.
For hubby: rifle scope, boxers and undershirts, sunglasses, captian america t-shirt and jeans, avengers dvd.
Next weekend I will wrap! :goodvibes

Discovered this (http://shop.littlebits.com/) and had to share because it just seems like the coolest thing! Too bad I don't have anyone over 8 yrs old on my list!

We bought "Don't let the pigeon finish this activity book" for DD4 and our two nephews (6,4). We love Mo Willems!

And for our DD's birthday, we found a beginner's telescope for her since she loves to look at the stars.

Not quite done yet, but close. I really need to organize my lists to see how much I really have left.

Happy Almost Cyber Monday!

mother pucker -- tried to get stuff on the AG site's cyber monday sale (which started a couple minutes early). Tried to get 3 dresses. Had to go recheck out EACH time because each time I would get close to checking out, one of them would be sold out. I'd thrown in some stuff for my niece's birthday in July but really was after the outfits for my DD. Once those were gone, I was done. And I type 126wpm! Madness.

ETA: and under the "random yet happy" file, I just happened to check back. The formal dress which they were clearing out from last year had been "sold out" but when I went back, it was in stock. Uh, okay. Snagged it and now have a nice dress for one of her dolls from Santa. Woohoo!

Thank you!!! I just ordered the Holiday Kit ($40, but$61.36 once you factor in tax and shipping) for my 14 year old son.

If you're interested, order soon, since the my kit will ship from CHINA in 3 days.

I tried finding a coupon online, with no luck.

I just happened to wake up at 1am (my 6 year old has a bad cough). I went downstairs and was disappointed at the AG Cyber Sale. I had heard this is the day to buy but it looked like a warehouse clearance sale. I see people on FB are commenting on their disappointment so I guess this was unusual.

Amazon has regular Kindle Fires on sale today (not the HD ones). They are originally $159 on sale, today only, for $129.

Hey CopperWife. I see you are in the burbs of Chicago. We are headed there in a few weeks for a quick weekend since DH will be there on business. What are some must do holiday activities? I see that Navy Pier and the Zoo have things. Anything else we shouldn't miss?

I am almost finished with my family. I have to buy DS11 something for his "read" item. I think I am going to get him some hockey magazines as my mom got him the hockey books he wanted.

I need to get DH his soccer coaching bag, training rings, and k-cups that he wants and he is all done.

I got my side of the family all done as well now I just need to work on DH's side of the family.

His side of the family is so hard to buy for because everyone just buys whatever they want whenever they want.

I should say we are in the faaaar suburbs of Chicago lol. We generally only go to the city in the summer, so as for fun holiday things, your guess is probably as good as mine. When my husband and I were first married, we went downtown and did some ice skating. It was lots of fun.

You could also check out the Daley Plaza with the Christmas Tree or the Christkindlmarket. Google for more info. There are ZooLights at the Lincoln Park Zoo like you mentioned.

In the summer, we always enjoy Navy Pier, the museums, and the Shedd Aquarium.

I'm a little upset with my DS15's best friend's mom right now. He stayed with them this weekend and she took him and his friend to Gamestop and let him pick out 3 games for his Christmas present. First I think that was a little too generous and there's no way I can reciprocate with her son, that's not in my budget, but mostly because she bought him games that he had asked me for and I had already bought. At least one, possibly two, but I'm not sure because I don't know which version she bought for him. I don't understand why she couldn't just wait and buy him a Gamestop gift card if she wanted to get him a game, he's already hard to buy for and now I don't know whether to take the games back that I bought and try to find him something else or just give them to him and let him exchange them after Christmas. Plus I really have no idea what to give her son, but I was going to budget about $30.:confused3

That's terrible, mrsbornkuntry (I mean nice of her to do that for DS, but it should have been run by you)! You'd think people would have more sense around the holidays. My MIL did something similar, she had the kids pick out a Dreamlite from the website one day. I got home from work and flipped when DH told me- DD is already getting a Dreamlite! Why would you not ask first?!

As for me, I am so close to being done. I literally have one more gift, which is a gift card for FIL's girlfriend. She asked for one to a local chain restaurant and I'm having a difficult time finding one at Walgreens or the usual places that sell a lot of gift cards. I'll check one more place and then make a special trip to one of their restaurants.

Pillow Pets ~ Just ordered a Jumboz Zebra for DD, Billy the Buffalo for DS and got a free 18" frog for ?? maybe DD for Easter or something.

Amazon yesterday ~ got a Kindle Fire for DD, Lego R2D2 for DS + Beatles and AC/DC Rock Band for the boy.

That would have frustrated me as well. I also don't like when non-family members start a gift exchange. We started this with a neighbor and finally we both ended it. Our kids get enough stuff (between us, Aunts, grandparents and Santa Claus) without neighbors giving them presents too.

FYI, littledressupshop.com is have 8 days of deals. Yesterday it was a Rapunzel dress for $15 shipped! Today it is shoes but limited sizes. Might want to keep watch. Also, they run out fast, so you'll need to jump on it in the morning. Happy shopping!
